Hsting an internatinal sprts event is an imprtant thing that has t be prepared well. Due t that, many pinins exist.
Firstly, psitive views need t be talked abut. When a cuntry gets t hst such a famus event, it will prbably get well-knwn by ther natins, and surely that can help the cuntry a lt. Fr instance, the gvernment and residents have a chance t use the pprtunity t advertise their culture t freign peple. Abve all, by ding that, the cuntry’s ecnmy might increase sharply during the event. Besides, it will satisfy sme peple’s wish t meet famus sprts players. They have a high rate f talking t their favrite players whm they really want t talk t nce in their life.
Hwever, the risk f hsting a big event still exists. An imprtant event is nt necessarily gd at all. That is why there is a debate abut this tpic. If a cuntry can’t be able t prepare fr the event in a perid, they have t d as many ways as pssible t finish preparatin n time, and serius results may happen. The mst bvius thing is that peple attending that event will have a bad experience and are sure t make grumbles. This then affects the cuntry’s image. Fr example, Qatar is a cuntry that will hst the 2022 Wrld Cup. The gvernment has t rush t finish building big stadiums, ver 6,000 migrant wrkers sacrificing (牺牲)their lives fr that. Hearing the sad news, sme peple arund the wrld disagree t g t Qatar t attend the Wrld Cup. The result is that Qatar has been badly affected.
In cnclusin, hsting an internatinal sprts event is bth gd and bad, and gd things r bad things depend n that cuntry’s attitude and respnsibility.

A. Advertising.B. Ecnmy.
C. Fans.D. Players.
5. Why d peple have different pinins abut hsting big events?

C. Because peple present ften have bad experiences.
D. Because building big stadiums csts t much mney.
6. What des the underlined wrd “grumbles” mean in paragraph 3?

C. Pr cmments.D. Great cntributins.
7. What’s the authr’s attitude t hsting internatinal sprts events?

My greatest regret in life is that I failed t tell my superb teachers hw much they cntributed t my early educatin.
Ruth Hammerman taught English t the eighth - graders. She was the first t shw me the rules f what Evelyn Waugh called ur “rich and delicate language.” She was a n-nnsense instructr. Unlike cmmn teachers, she diagramed sentences s we culd knw the grammar rules. She never seemed t be tired f the simple pleasures f sharing her learning.
Under her influence, I had the strng belief that language needs t be well - spken and prperly written. Yet ver the years I never made the effrt t find her and t express my thankfulness fr what she did fr me. Tw years after being in her class, I began the study f Latin and French, and the fundatin (基础) she prvided in English grammar served me well. Sadly, I never lked back.
In high schl I tk advanced French in a class taught by Richard Miller, the finest teacher I have ever experienced at any level. Mr. Miller brught t his subject a surprisingly deep understanding and new analysis. Reading “Phèdre”, Racine’s classic play, he asked us t nte there were 1,654 lines in it, and then pinted ut the care Racine devted t structure. Years later I made the same pint — giving Mr. Miller credit — in a cllege French class, and my prfessr was surprised by my understanding f the play, Mr. Miller taught us t enjy literature with particular pints f view. Yet I never made the effrt in later years t tell him what he meant t me.
Mr. Miller is certainly lng dead. If she is alive, Miss Hammerman wuld likely be in her 90s. In preparing this article, I tried t find her but was unsuccessful.
I am certain my act is cmmn. Peple ften frget t express lve and thankfulness t their teachers. I ught t have tld Miss Hammerman and Mr. Miller hw much they did fr me. I suppse they knew their wrk was effective because they believed in what they were ding. Nw I appreciate hw special they were.
8. What is special abut Mr. Miller’s French class?
A. He asked students t cunt lines.B. He stressed the imprtance f play.
C. He analyzed literature in a new way.D. He shwed great devtin t students.

A. Preparing the article.B. Lking fr the teachers.
C. Failing t thank teachers.D. Cpying teachers’ pints.
10. What best describes the tw teachers accrding t the text?
A. Creative.B. Frank.C. Humrus.D. Strict.
11. What is the authr’s purpse f writing the text?
A. T shw lve fr French literature.B. T explre the meaning f educatin.
C. T explain why teachers are imprtant.D. T share memries f the tw teachers.
