    Fr the study, mre than 400 students were asked t finish a set f 20 wrd puzzles. Halfway thrugh the task, the students were divided int three grups. One grup was allwed t take a break and use cellphnes t buy things nline. The secnd grup was asked t have a rest and buy things using cmputer. The last grup didn’t take any break at all.
    Surprisingly, the grup that used their cellphnes during the break went back t wrk feeling the mst tired and least mtivated t cntinue. They als had the hardest time slving the remaining wrd puzzles.
    Terri Kurtzberg, c-authr f the study, explained that they assumed lking at cellphnes during a break wuld be n different frm any ther break-but instead, the phne may cause increasing levels f distractin(分心)that make it difficult t return fcused attentin t wrk tasks.
    “Cellphnes may have this effect because even just seeing yur phne activates thughts f checking messages, cnnecting with peple, and mre, in ways that are different than hw we use ther screens like cmputers, and laptps,” Kurtzberg said.
    This is eched by a recent study frm the US University f Chicag. It fund that even if cellphnes are turned ff r turned face dwn, their mere presence reduces a persn’s cgnitive capacity (认知能力).

    Jseph O’Neal, an fficer f the Hnlulu Plice Department, said the rbt has prtected fficers, shelter staff and residents by scanning bdy temperatures between mealtimes at a shelter where hmeless peple culd quarantine (隔离) and get tested fr COVID-19. The rbt is als used t remtely interview individuals wh have tested psitive.
