I was late fr wrk that day but I was s glad that I stpped. That was 40 years ag, and the beginning f a new habit, ne that cntinues when I’m ut driving in bad weather.
If there’s smene at a bus stp, especially if it’s an elderly persn waiting at ff hurs and in bad weather, I will pull ver and ask if they need a ride.
Once, a yung dctr jumped in. She had finished a lng shift and had been waiting and waiting at the bus stp. She had n hesitatin and, fr the first time, I was able t help smene wh perfrms miracles (奇迹) n a daily basis. That felt gd.
But the best part f my ride ffers is the cnversatin. I d tend t ask a lt f questins: where are yu frm, where are yu ging, family, backgrund, pets and whatever else cmes t mind. Surprisingly, everyne wants t chat. We are usually laughing by the time the ride is ver. “What a shame!” I ften think when they hp ut, as the stries were just getting started. Have yu ever been n scial media and seen yur favrite celebrity talking abut a prduct? These prmtins might nt be ttally randm, and are actually seen as a vital part f the marketing prcess. The questin is: Hw d scial media influencers ‘influence’ what yu buy?
Human desire fr status and making friends, cmbined with ur need t belng t a grup, makes us receptive t being ‘scially influenced’. Cmpanies ften use that desire t have a similar lifestyle t a celebrity we admire t sell r launch a prduct. S, what d these prmtins actually d?
Firstly, they can be used t build brand awareness. A scial media influencer shuld have a strng understanding f the platfrm they perate n, and therefre can create appealing cntent that nt nly sticks t the brand image, but sparks their fllwers’ interests in a prduct they might never have seen befre.
Secndly, influencers can imprve a cmpany r prduct’s relatinship with their custmer base. Accrding t InMment’s 2018 US Retail CX Trends Reprt n custmer lyalty, 77% f buyers have been brand lyal fr mre than ten years. This is als true f 60% f millennials. A ppular celebrity can target key custmers and talk r blg abut a prduct, which can create an instant and lasting bnd with them.
Lastly, influencers can imprve custmer buying habits with seemingly ‘unbiased pinins’. We are mre likely t respnd t ‘peer recmmendatin’ than traditinal ads, meaning the fact we see an influencer as a ‘friend’ can make us less likely t be dubtful abut what we are seeing.
S, the next time yu see a celebrity talking abut a prduct, yu might want t cnsider that this culd be a carefully wrked-ut marketing strategy designed t target yur cre needs. If yu find yurself examining a prduct yu’ve seen n scial media, yu may well have been influenced.
28. Why d cmpanies invite celebrities t launch prducts?
A. Because celebrities can imprve the cmpanies’ public images.
B. Because cnsumers like t share similarity with celebrities.
C. Because celebrities want t make mre mney.
D Because cnsumers can make friends with celebrities.
29. Accrding t the passage, which strategy is ften used by influencers?
A. Setting up peratin platfrms.B. Sending gifts t custmers.
C. Imprving relatinship with the cmpany.D. Taking advantage f their ppularity.
30. T custmers, the recmmendatins f influencers seem t be ________.
A. ffensiveB. subjectiveC. bjectiveD. misleading
31. The passage is mainly abut ________.
A. hw scial media make adsB. hw scial media influence ur lifestyle
C. hw scial influencers affect ur buyingD. hw celebrities earn fame
D

One f the easiest lw-impact slar strategies is prviding habitat fr pllinatrs(传粉昆虫).
Habitat lss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pllinatr ppulatins ver the past cuple f decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural ecnmy. Over 28 states have passed laws related t pllinatr habitat prtectin and pesticide use. Cnservatin rganizatins put ut pllinatr-friendliness guidelines fr hme gardens, businesses, schls, cities—and nw there are guidelines fr slar farms.
Over the past few years, many slar farm develpers have transfrmed the space under their slar panels int a shelter fr varius kinds f pllinatrs, resulting in sil imprvement and carbn reductin. “These pllinatr-friendly slar farms can have a valuable impact n everything that’s ging n in the landscape,” says Macknick.
