In a study, published in the jurnal Prceedings f the Ryal Sciety B: Bilgical Sciences, a team f French researchers at the University f Srbnne Paris Nrth demnstrated that ants have the ptential t act as early stage cancer detectrs.
“We knew that ants can be easily trained,” Baptiste Piqueret, wh led the study, said. “Furthermre, they have an efficient sense f smell. We then cmbined these tw abilities and tested whether ants were able t detect the smell f cancer r nt."
Tumr (肿瘤) cells prduce specific chemical cmpunds that allw them t be distinguished frm healthy tissues. These are knwn as cancer bimarkers. Animals can be trained t sniff ut (嗅出) these chemicals and thus identify when a patient has cancer.
In the present study, wrker ants f the species Frmica fusca— cmmnly knwn as the silky ant —were trained t recgnize cancer bimarkers f an extremely aggressive human breast cancer. The urine (尿液)f mice carrying these tumrs was cllected and presented t the trained ants, alngside urine frm tumr—free mice.
After just three runds f training, where the ants learned t assciate the smell f cancer bimarkers with a sugary treat, they spent apprximately 20 percent mre time near the urine frm the tumr—bearing mice than the urine frm thse wh were tumr—free.
In the past, dgs and mice have als been shwn t sniff ut cancers. 9. Hw d Tumr cells differ frm healthy cells?
    A. They are different in size.B. They are different in clr.
    C. They are different in smell.D. They are different in quantity.
10 Hw did the researchers draw their cnclusin?
    A. By ding experiments.B. By quting thers’ research.
    C. By cllecting published data.D. By ding nline questinnaires.
    11. Why are dgs and mice mentined in the last paragraph?
    A. T indicate the new trend f medical research.
    B. T list the achievements made by the researchers.
    C. T shw the advantages f ants as cancer detectrs.
