2022·广西南宁·九年级校联考期中)①Height is just one of the thousands of features your genes (基因) decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If both your parents are tall, then most probably you will be tall too, but if you have questions about how tall you’re going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it out.

②But genes don’t decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can stop you from growing to your full potential(潜力). Getting plenty of sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the expected height.

③No doubt(怀疑) you’re wondering how fast you should grow. It depends. There’s no perfect or right answer. Generally speaking, kids grow about 6 centimeters a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty (青春期) (when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).

④Your doctor can know your growth these years. Two centimeters here and 2 inches there are not as important as the height you’re at now, how you’ve been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.

⑤Don’t be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt (高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 years old for girls and about 11 years old for boys. But it can be earlier or later—between 7 and 13 for girls and 9 and 15 for boys. You’ll usually begin to notice that you’re growing faster about a year or so after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

    根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。

5What can be inferred (推断) from the passage?

ANot only genes but also lifestyles can influence the height. BYour doctor can control your growth.

2022·安徽六安·九年级统考期中)Surprisingly, the dates and ways of the celebration of Father’s Day are not the same everywhere.

Father’s Day is celebrated to thank fathers and express gratitude (感激) for their love. In Canada, it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. People wear roses to express thanks and love for their fathers. But in Australia, it is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. The day is celebrated only in families. A rich breakfast for families is a good way to celebrate Father’s Day. In Thailand, Father’s Day falls on December 5 every year. All the people have a one-day holiday. You can see many people are in yellow and the streets are decorated in yellow because Father’s Day is also the King’s birthday.

2022·河南洛阳·九年级统考期中)Small talk like “What do you have there? Ice cream?” or “The weather today is beautiful, isn’t it?” is not meaningful to some people. But scientist believe that it is more useful than it may appear to be in fact.

A study by the University of Chicago found that people who talked to strangers enjoyed a better ride than those who sat in silence or kept playing with their phones.

In the study, scientists asked people at Chicago train stations to start to talk with other travelers. Most of them refused to do so at first because they didn’t think they could get a friendly answer. But the result was opposite(相反的). Most strangers were happy to talk with others.

“People are social animals,” Nicholas Epley, one of the scientists said. “It turned out that they also wanted to know others.”

Besides making you happy, chatting with strangers can also help you feel connected(有联系的)with your environment. Some students found that when people often smiled at, made eye contact(交流)with and talked with other people at public places, there was a better chance that they would have a sense of belonging(归属感)instead of felling lonely.

And if you are used to talking with strangers, you can try to talk with people about something different. A study showed that having a deep and meaningful talk gave you more happiness than small talk.

2022·河南洛阳·九年级统考期中)In many countries, governments advise people to buy electric(电动的)car and tell them that driving an electric car is good for the environment. But is it true?

The University of Minnesota recently studied the waste from different cars. The scientists found that sometimes, electric cars are more harmful than petrol(汽油)cars.

Surprising? Well, please pay attention to the word “sometimes”. Electric cars should be clean. The problem lies in the power that is used to charge(使充电)them. If the power comes from wind or solar energy(太阳能), electric cars will cause little pollution. However, if the power comes from coal, they will be very harmful. According to the study, pollution caused by these cars kills about 3,000 people a year. Pollution caused by petrol cars leads to about 880 deaths a year.

In fact, you can believe salespeople’s words when they say electric cars are clean. However, they are right only when the power used to charge their cars is also clean.

So how clean electric cars are depends on where people drive them. In France, more than half of the power comes from nuclear stations(核电站. Driving electric cars is good for the environment. In some other counties, however, power still mainly comes from coal. India, for example, depends on coal for 61% of its power. Only 2% of its power comes from nuclear energy. In countries like India, electric cars are not clean at all! They should prepare clean power for their electric cars.

    根据材料内容选择最佳答案。

14Why do governments advise people to buy electric cars according to the first paragraph?

    ATo have a popular car.

    BTo save lots of money.

    CTo protect the environment.

15Which is a disadvantage(劣势)of electric cars that get power from coal?

AThey use more coal to get power.

BThey need two more drivers during the trip.

CThey cause more people to die than petrol cars.

16What is the main idea of the last two paragraphs?

ANowadays electric cars are not always clean.

BThe power of most cars in France comes from nuclear stations.

CSalespeople advise more people to buy electric cars.

17What is the main purpose of the text?

ATo tell us petrol cars are very harmful to the environment.

BTo explain why solar energy has a great advantage over coal.

CTo tell us what kind of electric cars are friendly to the environment.

18Where can you most probably find the text?

AIn a storybook. BIn a science newspaper. COn a notice board.

2022·广东阳江·九年级统考期中)We all have to ask for favors sometimes. But it can be a difficult thing to do—even when you ask a good friend. So how can you ask for a favor and be sure to get a positive response (正面回应)? Here are some suggestions.

______ When you ask someone for a favor, you’re really asking the person to go out of his or her way to help you. Show the person that you understand he or she is doing something especially nice for you. If people think you’re friendly, they’re more likely (可能的) to want to help. Thank them sincerely (真诚地) when they help you. And, of course, a smile goes a long way.

Choose your words carefully. How do people respond to requests like this one: “Hey, Mike, lend me your car!”? They probably refuse. How can you avoid this problem? Choose your words carefully! For example, say, “Mike, would you mind doing me a favor?” Mike will probably respond like this: “Maybe. What do you need?” Now you have his attention and can explain the situation. People are more likely to agree to help you when they know the whole story.

Show your respect (尊重). If someone agrees to do you a favor, allow the person to choose when he or she helps you. Be respectful of the other person’s time, and try not to ask for too much. If someone refuses your request, you should accept the answer politely. Don’t make a habit of asking for favors, and always make sure you’re ready to do someone a favor in return.

2022·广东深圳·九年级深圳市罗湖区翠园东晓中学校考期中)What do you usually do in your spare time? Chatting online is now a national pastime(消遣)in China, especially among the post-90s and post-00s generation. To some people, however, online chats can seem like a kind of polite conversation. Yet hidden rules do exist(存在), as long as you take the time to look for them.

    Get to the Point

When sending a friend request, include your real name and any other identifying(身份辨别)information. Remember, everybody’s time is valuable. If there’s something you want, cut right to the chase. Never send an “Are you there?” without any follow-up messages. The quicker that you get to the point, the more likely the other person is to reply.

    Send the Right Things

Please send texts, not voice messages. It might be easier for you to speak than type, but what about the person on the other end? They may be unable to listen to a 59-second message right now. Also, never send information by voice message—it is hard to note down. Emojis(表情符号)and GIFs can save the day when you find yourself in an embarrassing conversation, or words fail you.

    Try to Understand

You can always judge a person’s mood by their text messages. If the person you’re talking to says “Good night” or “I’m going to take a shower”, that’s probably not what they’re actually going to do. It is just an excuse to stop talking to you. If someone waits for longer than three seconds before saying “Yes”, they probably really mean “No”. If you receive these emojis from friends who are older, read them literally(照字面地)(such as a smile or a wave. For the post-90s and post-00s generation, however, they could be speechlessness(无语).

24What may the underlined sentence mean?

ASend your real name without any follow-up messages.

BTell others what you want without any other useless messages.

CSend a friend request without any other identifying information.

DGreet others politely by sending an “Are you there?” with emojis.

25What does the word “it” refer to in Paragraph 3?

Apersonal information Bvoice message Cemoji DGIF

26Who will send you a wave to say goodbye according to the passage?

AThe post-80s generation. BThe post-90s generation.

CThe post-2000s generation. DThe post-2010s generation.

27What is the writer’s opinion about chatting online?

AThe ways you use to chat are the same as your parents.

BUsing too many emojis while chatting will annoy others.

CVoice messages make it easier for others to understand you.

DYour text messages on the phone will show what you’re feeling.

28What is the best title of the passage?

AHidden rules in chatting online BGood ways of sending right things

CUnderstand others through the messages DChatting online in your spare time

2022·广东汕头·九年级汕头市龙湖实验中学校考期中)Second only to water, tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Whether you like hot tea, icy tea or tea with milk, there’s a lot to love about tea. But how much do you know about it? Let’s test if you are a real tea lover.

Although there are thousands of different kinds of tea, they all come from one plant-- Camellia sinensis(野茶树) living in East Asia. The differences come from where the plants are grown and how their leaves are treated after being picked. In different ways, people may make plant leaves into green tea or black tea.

Tea came to England from China in the seventeenth century, but it was so costly that only rich people could afford it. It wasn’t until the first tea shop opened in 1717 that common people got close to the drink. By the middle of the eighteenth century, almost everyone in England has been drinking tea.

In the 1700s, many common English people didn’t have the better tea sets that richer people used. Their thinner cups often broke when boiling tea was inside. Adding milk first helped to cool the tea so that the cups couldn’t get broken so easily.

While tea lovers keep talking about how to make a great cup, there’s only one rule. The perfect cup of tea is the one that tastes best to you. No matter how you like it, just enjoy it!

2022·广东东莞·九年级校考期中)As space(太空)science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger as well as success.

Scientists have found out that the radiation(辐射)is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of the radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. The harm(伤害)of the radiation won’t be found until their children even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really effective(有效的)medicine has been found so far.

About 30% of these are satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space rubbish(垃圾). An explosion(爆炸)in space in 1999 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments, each at least 4mm in size. A small piece of these even knocked a spaceship window and caused some damage(损坏). Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working to deal with space rubbish.

Although space is really dangerous, it interests many people on the earth. In the near future, it may become possible for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space in a few years. So we should do something to help improve the space environment.

2022·广东中山·九年级统考期中)Can you speak more than one language? Being able to communicate with people in another language is a great way to make friends and feel more confident.

Language is the way we communicate with each other. It includes speaking, writing and using hand and face movements, known as sign language. The UN celebrates six of the world’s most widely used languages every year. French language day, on 20 March, Chinese, on 20 April, and Russian, on 6 June, are good opportunities to try learning a new language.

Speaking another language helps you talk to people you may not understand. Havana, who is aged 12, says speaking Hungarian as well as English means she can talk to her relatives in Hungary. This makes her feel closer to her cousins because they’re able to share their interests. Learning another language can also increase your confidence. For example, by being able to chat to local people when you travel. Studies show that being able to speak two languages also exercises the brain and makes you better at concentrating on more than one thing at a time.

Alex Rawlings is a language teacher and writer who speaks more than 15 languages. He finds it’s easier to learn words that he can see or hear, rather than from a list. Rawlings suggests writing down reasons why you want to learn the language and keep reminding yourself of them. “I’ve met lots of friends through my languages,” says Rawlings. “The more you learn the easier it gets.”

44People celebrate Chinese language day on ________.

    A20 March B20 April C6 June D12 October

45According to Havana, speaking Hungarian well ________.

Ahelp her makes more friends Bmakes her feel more confident

Cmakes her feel closer to her cousins Dexercises her brain and makes her smarter

BFrench is one of the world’s most widely used languages

Cit’s easier to learn words from a list rather than seeing and hearing

Dthe more friends you make, the easier it gets to learn another language

    48This passage tells us ________.
