Golesworthy has Marfan syndrome (马凡氏综合征).Back in 1993, when he was living in the west of England, his doctor told him that the aorta(主动脉) in his heart was so enlarged that it would unavoidably burst unless he underwent a major operation.“They talked through the options,” says Golesworthy, “but I was not interested. The operation really didn't look attractive.” What he particularly didn't like was having to be on blood thinners after the operation, something that would prevent blood clots (血栓) but presented its own risks: “I was riding motorbikes then, and skiing, so my whole lifestyle would have been affected.” By 2000, however, his condition had worsened. Realizing something had to be done, Golesworthy put his years of experience as a research and development engineer to good use. He decided he would fix himself. “Learning new stuff and developing new ideas, that was my job,” Golesworthy says. The aorta, he thought, needed support on the outside. And wrapping something around the outside of the aorta would require a special operation. So Golesworthy subjected himself to 30 hours in an MRI scanner and used 3D printing to create a physical exact copy of the part of his heart. “Luckily, I'd done a lot of work with technical materials,” he says.Strong determination coupled with an original yet practical solution won him the support of two leading surgeons and helped him raise the money to develop his idea. In May 2004, at the age of 47, he became the__guinea__pig for his own invention. The operation was a success.4.Why did Tal Golesworthy refuse the operation at first?A.A better solution was on the way.B.He was afraid of life being affected.C.The risk of the operation tended to cause death.D.He would like to be operated on in his own way.5.What helped Golesworthy to fix himself?A.His creative spirit.B.Regular exercise.C.Doctors' suggestions.D.His similar experience.6.What do the underlined words in the last paragraph “the guinea pig” refer to?A.The lovely pet.B.The important assistant.C.The experimental subject.D.The person to raise money.7.Which words can best describe Tal Golesworthy?A.Creative and kind.B.Strong and imaginative.C.Devoted and generous.D.Determined and brave.C[2022·湖南省名校联合体高三联考试题]Cosplayers can invest considerable time, money and effort into making the best headtotoe presentations that are oneofakind. But what inspires cosplayers to present themselves with so many detailed artistic designs? Psychologists try to reveal the facts through research. When a cosplayer selects a particular costume, he/she is often getting inside the specific character—or combination of characters—because something about that role speaks to them personally, according to Robin S. Rosenberg, a clinical psychologist at the University of California, San Francisco.Batman, for example, can be an especially meaningful cosplay choice for someone coping with trauma (精神创伤). The dark superhero faced destructive trauma when he was a child—witnessing the cruel and violent murder of his parents—which he overcame to become a hero. “When people are dressed as Batman, many talk about having experienced their own traumatic experiences,” Rosenberg said. “He survived and found meaning and purpose from his experience, and that is inspiring to them.”Rosenberg noted that Wonder Woman is another popular choice which calls up many women's feelings, partly because she holds her own in the maledominated world of costumed comics superheroes. “For those cosplayers, dressing as Wonder Woman is a way of celebrating and embracing her power,” Rosenberg said.Cosplay is a type of performance, which frequently moves strangers to approach the character through conversation and photos. So it surprised Rosenberg to discover that many cosplayers were identified as introverts. “When they wore a costume, they became much more socially outgoing,” Rosenberg said. She explained that, sometimes, wearing a costume allows a person to obtain confidence they didn't know they had, and helps them overcome shyness in real life.“When you do any kind of costuming—especially cosplay—on the one hand, it gives you permission to step outside yourself,”Rosenberg said.“On the other hand, it can bring out something in you that doesn't usually come out.”8.What does Rosenberg try to convey in Paragraph 2?A.Cosplayers have a special liking for costumes.B.Cosplayers play different roles within one day.C.Cosplayers have nothing to do but talk to themselves.D.Cosplayers express themselves through costumes.9.Batman and Wonder Woman are cited to reveal cosplayers' ________.A.childhood abuseB.need to repair personal difficultiesC.gender inequalityD.eagerness to defeat other people10.Why did Rosenberg feel surprised?A.Cosplayers changed their personalities once in costumes.B.Cosplayers couldn't wait to socialize when in costumes.C.Many cosplayers attracted strangers to talk with them.D.So many cosplayers were considered as pessimistic people.11.What may serve as the most suitable title of the text?A.Devotion to cosplayB.People in costumesC.Batman or Wonder WomanD.Psychology behind cosplayD[2022·烟台市高考诊断性测试]One in five children starting primary school in the UK are overweight. By the time they leave school, that figure will rise to one in three. The chance of them being overweight in adulthood, which brings a range of associated health risks, is high, at 50~75%.The root cause of dietrelated fatness is no secret: an energy imbalance between the quantity of food being consumed and the level of physical activity being conducted. Addressing this imbalance needs to be, in part, a review of our diet. More fresh ingredients (原料) especially fruit and vegetables, less processed foods and fewer additives (添加剂) are all important factors in building a balanced diet. The Department of Health has recognized that a collective approach, rather than just individual behavior change, is a successful way of achieving this. Universal adjustments like a blanket decrease in sugar content influence the way we eat through the choices available to us.Applying this approach to school kitchens makes sense. They have an important role to play in maintaining healthy diets. Offering a school menu packed with fresh ingredients and without artificial additives makes a direct and effective impact on what children eat at school. It's an area the Soil Association consistently works to handle through its Food for Life program—working with schools to transform food culture, improve food education and encourage lasting changes to the way schools think about food. It works. In Food for Life schools, pupils are a third less likely to eat no fruit or vegetables than those in comparison schools. One way for schools to get involved is a Food for Life Served Here award, which means at least 75% of dishes are prepared on site using fresh ingredients. It encourages local seasonal produce and, at silver or gold level, requires a commitment to environmentally friendly produce. At its heart, the award is designed to support health and enhance food understanding.Over 50% of English primary schools have such an award already, serving around 1.7 million meals each day to over 10,000 schools and it's a figure we'll see grow.12.What does the underlined word “Addressing” in Paragraph 2 mean?A.Tackling. B.Ignoring.C.Maintaining. D.Postponing.13.Which approach will work for students to build a balanced diet?A.Stopping them eating alone in schools.B.Getting them aware of the harm of fatness.C.Ensuring healthy recipes on school menus.D.Increasing the availability and flavor of food.14.What can we say about the Food for Life program?A.It's a heavy load on schools.B.It's complicated to operate.C.It's a temporary project.D.It's a fruitful attempt.15.Which type of food may the Food for Life Served Here award promote?A.Sugary snacks.B.Firstclass sausages.C.Highquality imported beef.D.Freshly picked organic beans.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。[2022·泉州市高三质量监测(一)]For her 85th birthday, I gave my mother an iPad.
