4. grasp how to take notes, take notes for each blog entry and discuss how to improve notes with their group mates；
5. discuss what iconic Chinese attractions they’d like to introduce to a foreigner and give their reasons.

该板块的主题是“体验澳大利亚的标志性特征”（Experience the iconic features of Australia）。学生通过讨论互相启发，构建对澳大利亚的背景知识，为阅读作准备。学生再跟随作者的旅行博客文章，走进澳大利亚，了解其基本概况、文化特点、饮食特色以及生活方式等，并思考作者介绍澳大利亚的角度，探究该国的多元文化特征。最后落脚于中国文化，选择中国的标志性风物向外国友人进行介绍，并且说明原因。该板块以现实生活中人们通过写旅行博客记录见闻、发表感悟为创作起点，生动有趣，充满画面感和代人感，既能抓住学生的阅读兴趣，又能启发学生积极思考。

结合本单元话题设置问题，让学生展开讨论，进行课堂预热。

     What do you know about the place in the photo?

     What are your impressions of this place?

     Do you know of any other iconic attractions in the world?

Step 1 Pre-reading

1. 让学生完成活动1，讨论所示问题，激活学生的背景知识。

     What is the first thing you think of when you think about Australia?

       If you have been to Australia, would you like to share your impression of Australia based on your experience?

     If you have never been to Australia, can you share your impression of Australia based on what you have seen in the media?

2. 让学生结合课文标题和呈现形式，预测文章内容。

     What type of text is it? How can you make your judgement?

     What iconic features of Australia do you think the writer has experienced?

Step 2 While-reading

1. 让学生通读文章，验证对文章内容的猜测，完成活动2，匹配小标题。
2. 带领学生阅读课本的阅读策略，学习如何记笔记，并运用该策略完成活动3，阅读文章，记笔记，根据所记笔记回答如下问题：

     What does “down under” mean?

     How has Australian cuisine been influenced by different cultures? Give two examples.

     What is the main theme reflected in Aboriginal music and why?

     What are the writer’s first and biggest impressions of Australia? Why?

Step 3 Post-reading

1. 让学生完成活动4，和同伴交换笔记，并就如何改进提出自己的建议。
2. 引导学生结合笔记，总结作者对澳大利亚风物的描述，思考如下问题：

     Why does the writer choose different angles to introduce the iconic features of Australia in her eyes?

     How did the writer organise the four blog entries?

3. 让学生完成5，和同学一起讨论最想向外国人介绍的中国标志性风物并说明原因。

Step 4 Homework

     Read the text aloud.

     Write a short paragraph about an iconic Chinese attraction you would like to introduce to foreigners.
