    Lesson 5: May I Have a Book?

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握单词:may, excuse, OK, borrow, two, three, store, later

    短语和句型:Excuse me. May I have...?  Here you are.  You’re welcome! 

    See you later.  

    2.能力目标

    (1)学会用英语客气地请求许可及答复;

    (2)学会用英语表示感谢及对他人的感谢做出应答;

    (3)学会用英语同他人道别。

    3.情感目标

    养成有礼貌的好品质。

    重点难点

    1.重点:学会用英语客气地请求许可及答复。

    2.难点:能在实际生活中有礼貌地表达请求许可。

    PPT课件,本课节的有关音频,部分学习用品。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Warming up

    1. Review the words of classroom objects.

    Show the class the picture and review the words by the following conversation.

        

    2. Play a game “What’s missing?”

    Show the seven classroom objects to the class, and get them to have a look. Then make one thing disappear once and get the class to guess what’s missing.Use the following conversation.

    Step 2  Presentation 

    Continue to play the game “What’s missing?”

    1. When the book disappears, the teacher add the following conversation to teach the new words excuse, OK and sentences Excuse me. May I have...? Here you are. You’re welcome.

    T: Oh, I can’t find my book. Excuse me. May I have a book?

    S: OK! Here you are.

    T: Thank you.

    S: You’re welcome

    2. When the two pencils disappear, the teacher add the following conversation to teach the new word two.  

    T: Oh, I can’t find my two pencils. Excuse me. May I have two pencils?

    S: OK! Here you are.

    T: Thanks.

    S: You’re welcome!

    3. When the three crayons disappear, the teacher add the following conversation to teach the new words three, borrow.

    T: Oh, I can’t find my three crayons. Excuse me. May I borrow three crayons?

    S: OK! Here you are.

    T: Thank you / Thanks.

    S: You’re welcome!

    Step 3  Practice

    Get the class to practice the following conversation in pairs, and then check them.

    A: Excuse me. May I have/borrow a rule/...?

    B: OK! Here you are.

    A: Thank you/ Thanks.

    B: You’re welcome!

    Step 4  Presentation

    The teacher comes to one of the students and make the following conversation to teach the new words store, later, phrase at the store and sentences That’s OK. See you later.

    T: Excuse me. May I have/borrow two cards?

    A: Sorry! I don’t have any cards.

    T: That’s OK. I can go and buy some at the store. And I can get some for you,  

    too. Goodbye.

    B: Thank you. See you later.

    Step 5  Practice

    Get the class to practice the following conversation in group of three. And then

    check them.

    A: Excuse me. May I have/borrow a/an...?

    B: OK! Here you are.

    A: Thank you/ Thanks.

    B: You’re welcome!

    (to C) Excuse me. May I have a/an...?

    C: Sorry. I don’t have any ...

    B: That’s OK.

    Step 6  The chain game

    Work in groups to practice “May I…”. (Let’s Do It! No. 3).

    A: May I have…?

    B: Sure. Here you are. May I have…?

    C: Sorry, I don’t have any… May I have…?

    D: Sure. Here you are.

    Step 7  Listening and circling

    Complete Let’s Do it! No. 1.

    What does Danny want? Listen and circle the pictures.

    Step 8  Listening , reading and answering

    1. Play the recording for the class to repeat.

    2. Read the dialogues by themselves and answer the following questions.

    (1) Does Jenny have any crayons?

    (2) Where can they buy the crayons?

    Answers: (1) No, she doesn’t.

            (2)At the store.

    3. Get the class to act the dialogues out in pairs.

    Step 9  Actions

    Listen and do the actions. (Let’s Do It! No. 4) 

     

    Step 10  Summary

    1. —Excuse me. May I have ...?

    —OK ! Here you are.

    —Thank you/Thanks.

    —You’re welcome./No problem./Not at all./My pleasure./  

    That’s all right./ That’s OK./Don’t mention it./

    It’s nothing./ Forget it./No worries.

    2. —Sorry.

    —That’s OK.

    3. Goodbye./ See you later.

    Step 11  Language points

    1. Excuse me. 打扰一下。

    (1) excuse me 抱歉;打扰;劳驾;对不起。该句是人们提出请求或询问情况前常用的委婉用语,以引起对方的注意;也可在自己的行为可能会给对方带来不便的情况下使用。

    Excuse me. May I ask you a question?

    打扰一下,我可以问你一个问题吗?

    Excuse me. Can you give me the book?

    劳驾,你能把那本书给我吗?

    (2) 辨析:Excuse me.I’m sorry.

    两者都有对不起之意,但用法有别。

    Excuse me. Could you tell me the way to the library?

    打扰一下,你能告诉我去图书馆的路吗?

    I’m sorry I’m late. 对不起,我迟到了。

    2. May I have a book, Jenny? 詹妮,我可以借本书吗?

    (1) May I...? 我可以……吗?表示请求对方许可,询问是否可以做某事。 

    肯定回答有:OK./ Sure./ Certainly./Yes, you may.等;否定回答常用Sorry,  
    but...(解释原因)等。
    —May I borrow your bike? 我可以借用你的自行车吗?
    —OK.可以。/ Sorry, but I want to use it.抱歉,我想用它。

    (2) may 情态动词,意为可以,可能,可表示请求许可或推测。其后跟动词原形,无人称和数的变化。否定形式为may not
    You may go now.现在,你可以走了。
    Danny may be in the classroom.丹尼可能在教室。  

    3. Here you are.给你。

    Here you are.是递给别人东西时的常用语。常用于以下场合:

    购物或向别人借东西时,对方常说“Here you are.”

    —May I have a penTom? 我可以借支钢笔吗,汤姆?

    —Here you are.给你。

    帮别人寻找某物,找到时常说Here you are.”

    I find your ruler. Here you are.我找到你的尺子了。给你。

    4. You’re welcome! 不客气!

    本句是对他人致谢的应答语。回答致谢的常用语还有:

    That’s OK./ That’s all right./ Not at all./ No problem./ My pleasure.等。

    5. May I borrow two pencils, Jenny

    詹妮,我可以借两支铅笔吗?

    borrow 及物动词,借。表示主语从别人那里借东西。

    borrow sth. from... ……借入某物

    I can borrow crayons from my friends.

    我可以从我朋友那里借蜡笔。

    Students can borrow books from the library.

    学生们可以从图书馆借书。

    6. That’s OK.没关系。

    That’s OK.有以下用法:

    没关系 是别人道歉时的应答语。相当于That’s all right. It doesn’t matter.

    —I’m sorry to trouble you.很抱歉打扰你。

    —That’s OK.没关系。

    不用谢 是别人感谢时的应答语。

    —Thanks a lot.非常感谢。

    —That’s OK. 不客气。   

    7. See you later.一会儿见。

    这是告别用语之一。其答语可用See you. 告别语还有:

    Goodbye. Bye-bye. Bye.等。

    —I’ll go home. See you later.我要回家了。再见。

    —See you.再见。
