    Working as a Team
At Uppingham School, there is a program called the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. It encourages students to challenge themselves in a number of ways and helps them develop physical strength and personal skills. The time that is required to be spent on each task varies according to the type of award one wants to win. For the gold award, either the “physical” or “skill” test should last for 12 months.
The most challenging part of the program is the expedition(探险旅行). In the gold group,we have to spend four days and three nights outdoors. We chose to go canoeing(划独木舟)for our trip. It took months for us to prepare, as we had to learn some survival skills.
Although we trained hard and learned all the skills beforehand, our practice expedition was much more difficult than we expected. We had to canoe for at least six hours a day, keeping rowing(划船)through the water. We also dealt with various difficulties, such as falling into the water and having to get out of the canoe and drug it over some rocks.
Although physical strength is important, it was teamwork that really got us through the four days. We learned to cooperate with our teammates to find the right way to paddle(划桨). When we were in trouble, we helped each other out, as well as shared our food and dry clothes. It was an unforgettable experience that turned me into a stronger and more tolerant(宽容的)person. I learned to work with both other people and with nature. I am looking forward to receiving my gold award.

7.How might the writer describe this experience?

You might have heard about identity theft (身份盗窃): it means a thief gets enough of someone’s information to commit fraud (诈骗). Why should people care about it? Because recovering a stolen identity can be a hard process. Imagine that someone opens a credit card in your name, gets a cell phone number in your name, or buys things using a credit card that has your name on it.
ID thieves can be creative about getting your information. There are some low-tech ways they get it: sometimes they steal rubbish, going through it to find personal information, or they steal mail.
There are high-tech ways, too: ID thieves might put software onto your computer secretly. The software, called badware, let a thief see everything on your computer, and record everything you type on your computer. Unluckily, even if you’re really careful with your personal information, thieves can still get your personal information. Sometimes, they get into computer systems at shops, schools, hospitals or businesses. They look for personal information to use or sell to other thieves.
It’s pretty easy for you and your family to stop a thief stealing your identity. You can start with the low-tech defenses (防御). Be careful with your mail and rubbish. And be sure to take care of your wallet, or your backpack. It’s especially important not to carry your Social Security card with you. Keep it in a safe place at home.
Practice some higher-tech defenses, too: protect your computer by turning on an up-to-date firewall (防火墙). Once you’re online, be careful with your personal information. When you get emails or pop-ups on your computer, don’t respond automatically Stop and think before you click—it could help keep your information private, and keep badware off your computer.
8.What can we infer from the second paragraph?
A.It is easy for your mail to be stolen.
B.Even some useless things can make you face the danger of identity theft.
C.We cannot throw rubbish in order to protect our personal information.
D.We should put away our mail to avoid identity theft.
9.What can we learn from the underlined sentence in the third paragraph?
A.It’s impossible to find a way to stop identity theft.
B.People can protect their personal information as long as they are careful enough.
C.Thieves are very good at finding ways to collect people’s personal information.
D.It’s hard for a thief to collect your personal information.
10.Which best shows the writer’s idea about identity theft?
A.Identity theft will finally be stopped as computer software becomes better.
B.Identity theft is a serious problem that can be reduced with a few simple habits.
C.Identity theft happens more commonly to adults because they are not good at using computers.
D.Identity theft is an easy problem that can be dealt within a second.
11.What’s the structure of the passage?
    A. B. C. D.

Teachers have always had to face the problem of students cheating, whether in a public school or a private school, whether among the low-achieving students or ‘straight A’ students. Why do students cheat?
The main reason that students cheat is the high pressure from family. Students want their parents or grandparents to feel proud of them, or at least not to be disappointed in them. Another main reason is that it’s likely to get the correct answer rather than considering student’s abilities in school. As a result, what students care most is only scores. In addition, some students cheat simply because they’re busy or lazy.
Cheating can help you get ahead when it works and it is easy to do. The cheaters get good grades without spending much time studying. Some people think cheating makes difficult things seem easy. Cheating is a way for them to win and get what they want now. Honor and dishonor are meaningless if they win. They easily see the advantages in cheating, but often ignore the dangers in playing by their own rules instead of society’s.
Cheating successfully once often leads to cheating again and again. It can quickly become a habit that turns into a lifestyle. Without cheating , cheaters become afraid of failure. That is to say, it prevents the student from getting the chance to experience the achieving process. What’s more, student who cheat may feel worried about getting caught, whether they are caught or not. These kids may feel guilty or embarrassed. Research has shown that not being able to experience trying hard directly affects one’s self-confidence. Research has also shown that low self-esteem is the main cause of sadness.
So cheating is like using drugs——it feels good at the moment but it has rather bad effects. The best way to teach our students is to put cheating out of their mind and love learning truly, to help them experience the satisfaction that comes from the knowledge as well as the self-confidence. There’s an old saying that characters never win and winners never cheat. Kids who don’t cheat are true winners. Because when they win, they do it honestly.
12.How many reasons are mentioned in paragraph 2?
    A.1 B.2 C.3 D.4
13.The underlined word “ignore” in paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A.pay attention to B.pay no attention to C.care for D.be serious about
    14.The writer organizes paragraph 4 by ________.
    A.telling a story B.listing results C.giving reasons D.offering suggestions
15.What’s the writer’s attitude towards cheating?
A.He is against it B.He agrees with it. C.He wonders if it is right D.He thinks it is

根据“By the time I got there, the rainbow and its pot of gold were gone”我到那儿的时候,彩虹和那罐金子都不见了。
first第一;second第二;third第三;last最后。根据“Over the years, I ran after the fame, success and money and even power that I thought would bring me the happiness I always wanted”多年来,我一直在追求名望、成功、金钱甚至权力,我以为这些东西能给我带来我一直想要的幸福。
根据“though”可知,表示让步,再根据“Over the years, I ran after the fame, success and money and even power that I thought would bring me the happiness I always wanted”多年来,我一直在追求名望、成功、金钱甚至权力,我以为这些东西能给我带来我一直想要的幸福。
根据“That true treasure is the love between people and it is free to all”真正的财富是人与人之间的爱,它是免费的。
根据“I welcomed this treasure into my ____14____ and life and shared it with others as well. And the more love I ____15____, the more love I had in me”我欢迎这个宝藏到我的心中和生活中,也和其他人分享它。
cared about关心;took out取出;gave away捐赠;came out出现,出版。根据“I welcomed this treasure into my ____14____ and life and shared it with others as well”我欢迎这个宝藏到我的心中和生活中,也和其他人分享它。
再根据“It is said that there was a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow”据说彩虹的尽头有一罐金子。 故选A。

    36.an 37.to see 38.its 39.but 40.began 41.closely 42.photos 43.when 44.longer 45.as

    want to do sth.
由下文“It has already completed a third of its 6, 000-mile trip to Victoria.(它已经完成了到维多利亚的6000英里旅程的三分之一)”可知,begin的动作发生在过去,所以要用过去时,故答案填began。
    根据固定搭配as...as sb. can结构,表示“某人尽可能……
    例如题目2中,根据固定搭配want to do sth“想要做某事”,来确定应该填to see。
    46.(H)ers
    47.(n)inth
根据“the day before Teachers’ Day”及首字母提示可知,应该是“九月九日”,表示日期用序数词ninth。故填(n)inth。
    48.(a)head
根据“Of course not.” ;在口语表达中,“Go ahead”表示“去吧”,故填(a)head。
    49.(s)ense
根据“so I easily get lost in big cities”及首字母可知,此处指方向感很差,所以容易迷路,a sense of“一种……
    50.except
根据首字母e及“you’re not supposed to eat anything”可知,在法国,除了面包,不能用手吃任何东西;except“除……
    51.(l)ocal

根据“the ...time in New York is 6 o'clock in the morning.”
    52.(l)eaves
由空前的“tea”和“they are picked by hand and then are sent for processing.”
    53.ridden
根据答语“Yes, I just rode a horse last month.”
    54.(w)idely
根据“Hangzhou is famous for the West Lake…” be widely known for“因……
    55.(a)live
根据“the man in the traffic accident said to us.” 故填(a)live。
