Liu Qingyi,16-year-old girl from Central China's Henan Province, won the global breakdance competition(全球霹雳舞大赛)at the Outbreak Europe 2022 in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia on Sunday. The bicycle is a convenient transportation tool. Many students ride a bicycle to school. Now, let's take a look at how it came to be.

In 1817, a German named Karl von Drais invented a wooden, two-wheeled machine. Riders propelled it forward with their feet. Unfortunately, it was later banned as a danger to pedestrians.

An important milestone in the development of the bicycle happened in Paris in 1863. Pedals were added to the front axle. The new machines were popular. The name “bicycle” had come into use by 1869.However,these early bicycles were very clunky. They had a heavy wooden frame and steel wheels.

“Ordinary bicycles” became popular in the 1870s. They had a large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel. If riders had to stop suddenly, it could be dangerous.

Eventually, English inventor John Kemp Starley designed a “safety bicycle” with two small wheels of equal size, a chain drive and a set of gears. It was similar to the modern bicycle.

Mass production of bicycles began around the 1900s. It made them affordable for the average person and greatly increased their popularity. Today, manufacturers keep improving the features and design of bicycles as new technologies emerge.
