Vanuatu is one of the few places left on earth where you can still experience an ancient Pacific culture that is still very much alive today. The annual Vanuatu festivals, rituals and dances they celebrate are not only spectacular to watch but also give you a chance to participate in feasts, learn weaving, canoes…
Every three years, Tanna's Nekowiar celebrations light up the island. It's a three-day festival of music, dancing and eating to mark the arranging of marriages by village elders. Best of all, many of the festivals, cultural events and activities are off the beaten track on islands and in areas where there is amazing wild scenery and stunning photo opportunities, so your journey there is almost as much of an adventure as the actual festival itself.
At this year’s festival, hundreds of women and girls started the event by singing and dancing a traditional Napen from nightfall to sunrise. They only took breaks when they were too tired to continue. The movements were so powerful and impressive accompanied with special music. Most of the dancers painted their faces in bright colourful designs that held special importance to their tribes.
In the early hours of the third day, the men, teenagers and even young boys had their turn in a dance called Toka. Jimmy Kawiel performed the dance for the first time this year, “You need more energy for Toka,” Mr. Kawiel said, “We’ve been practising for five to six months. It is a very big thing for us, especially when things are developing so fast and we are in danger of losing our culture.”

ReThink, a free app available on Android and iOS, is created by a young creator for mobile. platforms with a mission to stop online bullying and benefit teens worldwide.
In the fall of 2013, Trisha Prabhu, then 13,read the story of Rebecca Ann Sedwick, a 12-year- old from Florida who committed suicide after being cyberbullied. “I was shocked and heartbroken. How could a girl younger than me be pushed to take her own life?” asked the teen. This set off her quest to prevent the damage.
Researching cyberbullying, she learnt that teens are more likely to make abrupt choices, because the part of the brain that controls decision- making isn't fully developed until early to mid-20s. Everyone is free to post online; this can be easily abused, resulting in the “silent pandemic” of cyberbulling.
“What if adolescents got an opportunity to reconsider posting an offensive message? Would they change their minds?” she had thought. The daughter of engineers, she's been coding since she was 10. She realized that a problem created by technology could be resolved with technology. She spent two years developing the now patented ReThink to stop online bullying.
In her research trial, Trisha noticed that 93 percent of the time teens reconsidered an offensive post, after this alert: This message may be hurtful to others. Are you sure you want to post this message? The tendency to post hurtful messages dropped from 71.4 to 4.6 percent.
The app is built with a growing database of words and phrases that could be offensive. This image-based technology will detect offensive images and videos and make the user on the right track.
32. Why does the author mention Rebecca Ann Sedwick in Paragraph 2?
A. To share a shocking story. B. To make a comparison.
C. To draw a conclusion. D. To introduce the topic.
33. How did Trisha Prabhu help address online bullying?
A. By calling on parents to act.
B. By showing the causes of cyberbulling.
C. By developing a new technology to help deal with it.
D. By advising quitting using high-technology and rethinking.
34. What do we know about ReThink?
A. It is an App with low charge.
B. It can send alarming messages to the poster.
C. It has not been recognized by the official groups.
D. It should be further developed because of its low efficiency.
35. What may be the best title of the text?
A. An App Helping Reduce Cyberbulling
B. Cyberbulling Is a Serious Problem
C. A Heart-broken Story
D. A Young Made a Big Discovery

Working as a tour guide in the scenic White Island of New Zealand sounds like a dream come true for an adventurous man, unless of course, the incredible happens.
At 21, Jack Stevenson was working as a tour guide on White Island when he was caught in the middle of a killer volcanic eruption. Considered an active volcano, many have questioned the decision to allow tourists to visit White Island. But its splendid scenery, warm and skilled natives there and adventurous exploration attract more than 18000 people travel to that spot every year.
Jack along with a group of tourists hiked its winding trails, admired the impressive beauty, dived into its cold lakes, and fished for treats in its streams. Of course, he knew the mountain was an active volcano... Still there is a village at the foot of it.
Suddenly Jack found himself in the middle of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic event in its history. Black smoke rolled down the side of the mountain towards the village as soon as they felt the earthquake, and then ash and rock erupted everywhere. Men, women and children tried their best to go as far away from the volcano as possible as the lava melted its way quickly.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
During the hurry to escape, Jack offered to help.
Jack is now back home in Whakatane, from where he can see White Island and read the letters from tourists.

Text 3
W: When shall we have our new house painted? I can’t wait to move into it.

Text 6
M: Hi, Claire. How is riding the bus?
W: It is easy. Catching the bus and transferring is no problem.
M: How long does it take to get to school?
W: It only takes 30 minutes. In the past, I would drive to work, and it sometimes took longer than that. And of course it cost much more.

W: Dear students, welcome to your new university, a place to help you realize your dream. First, I’d like to introduce the professors. You will have excellent teachers who are famous at home and abroad. They are both knowledgeable and responsible. Second, there are various after-school activities for you, such as singing, dancing and drawing, among which singing is the most popular one. These activities last from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. You can participate in any activity you like but you have to follow the rules. And now I’ll introduce the campus. The tallest building is the teaching building, where you will have classes and learn how to be a responsible adult. On its right is the library, where you can read books from all over the world. In the library you can have Wi-Fi access to the Internet, which will help you keep up with times. Next to the library is the lab building, where you can gain a better understanding of how science works and how the world can benefit from technology. That’s all I want to say today. Thank you for your attention and enjoy your new school life here.

During the hurry to escape, Jack offered to help. He pulled out some blankets and got them wet. Abruptly he shared them with some little children and needy people. He showed how to cover himself to avoid the smelly ashes and other possible damages from volcano eruption. The whole group were equipped immediately to run away to the bus at the entrance of the village. The bus driver drove quickly and to everyone’s relief, they managed to reach a safe place before the lava came along.
Jack is now back home in Whakatane, from where he can see White Island and read the letters from tourists. Sincere thanks and best wishes are expressed in the simple words. He is deeply touched by the tourists and feels blessed to have the chance to help. Besides, what makes him even more delighted is that many of them have great interest and show strong desire to travel back there and visit it again.
