    Free talking: How to learn English well?

    1) We should always speak English in class.

    2) Let’s try to speak English as much as possible.

    3) Why not write down the mistakes in our notebooks?

    4) Don’t forget to write down the correct answers next to the mistakes.

    5) It’s a good idea to spell and pronounce new words aloud every day.

    6) How about listening to the radio?

    7) How about reading English stories?

    8) Why don’t we try to find some English pen friends?

    Step 4  Language points

    1. Many students ask for advice about how to improve their English.

    许多学生询问关于怎样提高英语(水平)的建议。

    advice 是名词,ask for advice 表示询问建议。例如:

    I want to __________ about where to stay.

    我想请教应该住在哪儿。

    improve  v.  改进;改善

    e.g.  I want to improve my English.
    我想提高我的英语水平。

    2. I like watching English films and listening to English songs.

    我喜欢看英语电影和听英语歌曲。

    在本句中,watching English filmslistening to English songs并列做动词like 的宾语。例如:

    My friend Tony ___________ golf and traveling around the world.

    我的朋友托尼喜欢大高尔夫,喜欢环球旅行。

    3. I also advise you to talk about the films or songs with your friends.

    建议你和朋友谈谈(所看) 电影或(所听)歌曲,猜猜生词的意思。

    advise 是动词,advise sb. to do sth. 表示建议某人做某事。例如

    辨析: advice/advise

      adviceadvise都可表示建议”, 但它们的用法有所区别。

    advice用作不可数名词。... piece(s) of advice意为“……条建议ask for advice意为寻求建议。如:

    Mr Wang gave me a piece of advice on how to get on well with others.

    Now I want to ask for some advice about speaking English well. 

    advise用作动词。后面可跟名词、代词或动词-ing形式作宾语,常用于advise sb. (not) to do sth.结构中,意为建议某人()做某事。如:

    I want you to advise my sister / her.

    Jack advised reading a lot of English magazines.

    My friends advised me to go to that concert.

    【运用】根据句意用adviceadvise的适当形式填空。

    (1) Wei Hua ________ us to do some reading to improve our English last week.

    (2) Here is some _______ on saving the document.

    4. I suggest you write four or five words a day on pieces of paper and place them in your room.

      suggest表示建议”, 常用suggest (that) sb. (should) do sth.  

      e.g. He suggested (that) we _________ for a walk.

          他建议我们去散散步。

    suggest doing sth. 也可表示建议做某事 

    e.g. It there’s a problem, we suggest calling the police for help.

         如果有问题, 我们建议打电话找警察求助。

    Step 5 Practice

    1. Ask the students to the words in the box in Activity 4.

    the problem is given in the first sentence followed by a question asking for advice.

      Ask students to think of your main problem in learning English and write a similar letter to Diana asking for advice.

    I like reading in English, but I think a whole book is too hard and takes a long time to finish. There are a lot of words I don’t know. What can I read in English?
