(2022·广西·柳州市柳江中学模拟预测)A native plant of China, bamboo mainly grows in regions south of the Yangtze River. In traditional Chinese culture bamboo is a symbol of moral honesty, loyalty, flexibility and modesty, making it a frequent theme of Chinese poetry and paintings.
The bamboo forest creates unique prospect (风景) around Anji, a county in Zhejiang Province. As the Kingdom of Bamboo, the city is the filming location of the Oscar-winning movie Crouching Tiger; Hidden Dragon. The bamboo scenery along with other bamboo-related attractions, including a bamboo museum, has created unique tourism resources.
Bamboo is not only pretty and elegant and Xie Zhiguang, a 48-year-old local bamboo dealer for over 10 years explained that it is used for much more than just as an alternative to wood. It is the main food for giant pandas, and bamboo shoots are regularly consumed by humans. Also, the stem of the plant can be made into various products including chopsticks furniture, tissue and paper.
What makes all the functions even more valuable is the speed at which bamboo grows. “During peak times, bamboo can grow one meter a day and over 20 meters within weeks,” he said “It takes years to grow wood, while the growth cycle of bamboo is much shorter”This advantage allows farmers to make money faster by growing bamboo than by growing wood. In the battle against extreme poverty in China bamboo has played a supporting role.
The county introduced processing factories for bamboo shoots and developed a series of products. Bamboo weaving techniques, some of which are listed as intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产), also contributed to poverty reduction. A number of bamboo-weaving skill training centers were set up in poor areas to teach rural people, especially women, to transform bamboo into delicate items. With such items going to domestic and overseas markets, the bamboo weaving business has even become the mainstay industry for some of these regions.
“Bamboo is a sustainable green resource,” said Wang Jingxin, a professor at Zhejiang University “Such measures will help to speed up China’s economy and ecology.”
4.Why do poets and painters often use bamboo as the theme of their works?

(2022·湖北·黄冈中学三模)Electric vehicles(EVs) are widely considered a strong weapon in efforts against global warming. But are they like what people believe? The Radiant Energy Group(REG) stated effects of EVs vary with countries. In some nations, EVs lead to the release of more carbon gases than gasoline cars. The group reckoned gas emissions(排放) caused by a gasoline vehicle and from charging an EV. Countries where charging an EV is cleaner than driving a gasoline-powered car use a lot of nuclear or solar power.
Sales of electric cars are rising the fastest in Europe. Data from REG suggests EVs in Poland actually create more carbon emissions because their electrical systems depend so much on coal. In other European countries, however, EVs result in fewer emissions. The countries with the biggest carbon gas reduction use much clean power. The first was Switzerland at 100 percent carbon reductions over gasoline vehicles.
Germany and Spain create lots of electricity from the sun and wind. But the sun and wind don’t add to a country’s electrical system equally throughout the day. For this reason, carbon emissions saved by driving an EV aren’t fixed. Charging in the afternoon, when there’s more sun and wind, saves 16 to 18 percent more carbon than at night when electrical systems are more likely to be using gas or coal.
The gap in emissions between electric and gasoline-powered vehicles has narrowed in recent years. In Europe, carmakers have been required to meet EU CO₂ emissions of performance standards. They’ve made their gasoline engines more fuel-efficient. As a result, carbon emissions of new gasoline-powered cars in Europe have fallen an average of 25 percent in the past years. But EV sales in Europe are backed by government spending and rules against new gasoline engine cars after 2035. Major automakers have set targets to sell mainly EVs in Europe in the coming years.
8.What does the underlined word “reckoned” mean in paragraph 1?
A.Reduced. B.Calculated.
C.Banned. D.Predicted.
9.What affects carbon emissions of EVs according to paragraph3?
A.The country where they’re made. B.Facilities producing clean power.
C.The time they are being charged. D.Technology used by electrical systems.
10.What causes sales of EVs to rise quickly in Europe?
A.Support of official policies. B.Concern about global warming.
C.Standards of gasoline car. D.Advertisements from carmakers.
11.Which can be the best title for the text?
A.What Benefits Do EVs Bring?
B.Will EVs Replace Gasoline Cars in Europe?
C.How Do EVs Affect Carbon Emissions?
D.Do Electric Cars Really Help the Environment?

(2022·青海·海东市第一中学模拟预测)At most universities, core (核心) curriculum or general education is required, whether that is two or more courses in core academic subjects. These core academics consist of mathematics, science, history and English, which are used to provide students with a broad range of academic knowledge and aid in their individual development.
However, are these courses more beneficial or harmful to students? Based on studies from across the district there is a gap between the necessities and burdens of general education courses. According to an article by Best Value Schools, students sometimes discover a hidden passion for a field of study while taking general education courses. Although this may be true, many students consider the program as “a collection of courses without connection, consistency or meaning”. The negative concept of these courses could possibly be connected to the fact that many students don’t actually obtain these skills.
Many schools have been working to improve their core curriculum program by developing the adoption of mission, goal and outcome statements. Some University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) professors have recently been requiring students to take self-assessments and complete assignments based on how to develop critical thinking, communication and cooperation skills, as well as apply them within and outside of the classroom. It is through these channels of self discovery that students can often find their passions, which can possibly lead to choosing a major.
Typically, one-third of first-time college students change their major within the first three years. Major changes can be for a variety of reasons. It can be associated with a dissatisfaction in coursework. It can also be due to the discovery of a major which simply fits a student better. General education classes can play an important role in helping to make this discovery. Though students’ opinions vary on the importance of core curriculum, the basis of the program should be taken into consideration. At the same time, institutions should continue to work towards developing more authentic ways to provide a sense of importance and pride in the program to aid in student learning and the development of real-world skills.
12.What is the function of core curriculum?
A.Laying foundation for students’ future.
B.Developing students’ good characteristics.
C.Determining students’ major in college.
D.Releasing students’ burden of study.
13.What is the author trying to argue about general education?
A.Why it is needed in careers. B.Whether it is really important.
C.What advantages it brings about. D.Who will benefit most from it.
14.What do some UNCG professors ask students to do?
A.Stick to their majors.
B.Focus on core curriculum.
C.Improve academic performance.
D.Assess themselves and develop skills.
15.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The reasons for students’ changing majors.
B.The significant part core curriculum plays.
C.The necessity of reforming core curriculum.
D.Opinions students hold to general education.

Mateo, a seven-year-old boy, was very interested after seeing the wooden box on the sidewalk. The sign on the front said “Little Free Library”. Luisa, Mateo’s older sister, told him that people build boxes and put books inside so other people can take books they want and add ones they’ve already read.
The idea excited Mateo and he decided to make his own so kids could trade books. But Luisa was worried that kids may not notice it. Mateo wanted to have a try anyway, and he asked Luisa to help him. Luisa agreed and went to Papa for tools, while Mateo ran inside to collect books.
With Papa’s help, they built a wooden box. They put a door on it and attached the box to a post. Then they dug a hole in their front yard and stuck the post into the hole. Mateo arranged the books inside the box and closed the door. “Now I just have to wait,” he said.
Mateo ran outside three times that day to check. But each time, his books were the only ones inside. For the next few days, Mateo kept checking the box, but his books were still there.
“No kids noticed it and no one wants to trade books,” Mateo said in low spirits, kicking at the pebbles in the path.
“I know you really wanted your idea to work, Mateo,” Luisa comforted him. “I’m sorry it didn’t.”
The next two days, Mateo didn’t check the box. Luisa went to his room to encourage him to take a look in case someone decided to trade, but Mateo refused and buried himself in the sheets. Reading his frustration, Luisa let out a sigh and walked out of the room.

46.Dear Lily:
I'm sorry to hear that you were ill. Every girl hopes to keep slim. But we know that keeping fit and healthy is very important. I'd like to tell you some ways to keep healthy.
First, a healthy diet is good for you. It's better to eat fresh fruit and vegetables with rich vitamins and fiber. Don't eat food which contains too much sugar and fat, like cheese, chocolate etc. Fat and sugar can make you put on weight easily. Second, it's very important to have good living habits. You should do regular exercise and have enough rest. Besides, a cheerful state of mind is equally important to our health as healthy diets and regular exercise.
Let’s keep fit and healthy together.
Yours,
Li Hua

47.Suggested Version:
The next morning, Luisa asked Mateo to check the box again. She pulled Mateo out of bed, urging him to go to the box. Mateo dragged himself from upstairs and trudged down (费力地走) the walkway to the box. Hopeless and frustrated, he unwillingly and slowly opened the door. Mateo couldn’t believe his eyes. In the box lay lots of new books while his books were gone. The happy boy jumped up and down, clapped his hands and exclaimed, “It worked! My little library worked!” “But how did it work?” Mateo wondered, deciding to figure out who had helped him.
Finally, his chance came when Mateo saw his next-door neighbor Julianne walking up to the box with two books. Mateo asked Julianne how she had heard about the library. It turned out that his sister Luisa had visited all the older kids in the neighborhood and asked them to tell their younger sisters and brothers about the little library. Julianne’s answer moved Mateo to tears. As Mateo looked back, his eyes were greeted with a big smile from Luisa, who stood by the front door watching him. “I’m so lucky to have new books to read and even luckier to have an awesome sister!”
