Most people can’t live to 100.Those who do live so long can hardly walk, let alone take part in any activities. A few people, however, take part in dangerous activities even though they are more than 100 years old﹣They keep going and going! There is a great grandmother who likes challenging herself although she is 101 years old this year.
Mary Hardison believes that people should always be cheerful and more importantly, take on all kinds of adventures while they physically still can. So, instead of celebrating her 101st birthday with a boring party, she decided to go paragliding(滑翔跳伞)﹣an idea she got from her 75﹣year﹣old son who recently took it up as a hobby.
So on her birthday, cheered on by her big family, she tied herself up together with expert instructor Kevin Hintze, and jumped down fearlessly from the sky near her home in Ogden, Utah. And, it was not just a simple jump either. According to Kevin Hintze, the grandmother encouraged him to turn around, as they made their way down.
This is not the first time that Mary has done something “wild” and “crazy”. For her 90th birthday she rode all the adult rides at Disneyland. And, she is not done yet﹣For her 102nd birthday she hopes to go down the 3,000 feet Alpine Slide at Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort!

My home is in Demonton near a river valley. It is a beautiful area that has been made into a park with meters of hiking trails (小路) along the river.
One day I discovered a trail I had never seen before. It was extremely steep and very slippery as it was covered with ice. I was alone at the time and even though I was terrified, I still wanted to go for a walk. Just this thought made my heart beat faster. I shook, not from the cold, although it was probably around -15℃, but from the fear. I knew I had to do it.
I moved forward slowly and put one foot on the trail, then the other. Thus I continued, one foot in front of the other I went very slowly down the trail, shaking with every step. I was sweating despite my cold. I had no idea how long it would take me to travel along the trail, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to conquer my fear.
At last, I succeeded! At least that’s how I felt. I nearly ran down the trail. Well, not exactly ran, but it felt like that compare with my extremely slow speed in the beginning.
Maybe you don’t think this is much of a story, but I just want to tell you that we never know what’s around the corner. If you compare this story to life, you’ll see that we have no idea where life is going to take us, or how many easy or difficult trails there are to choose from until we make a choice! The point is: we have the freedom to choose!

A.it was very warm that day
B.the trail was not far from the river
C.the trail was far from the author’s home

B.things may not seem so dangerous in the end
C.it’s worth challenging our fears and pushing on
D.we don’t have the freedom to do anything we like

On January 22, 2022, the British-Belgian 19-year-old, Rutherford, successfully landed her microlight aircraft back at the Airport, from where she had departed 155 days ago, fulfilling her dream to be the youngest woman to fly around the world solo.

Edward walked slowly past the school blacktop where his older brother, Leon, was playing basketball with his friends. Leon didn’t notice Edward until he turned to shoot the ball. Leon really loved basketball and was good at it. But Edward was another story.
Edward would beg to play with them but Leon’s friends complained a lot. For some reason, in that last game, Edward’s playing was worse than ever. He couldn’t do anything right. He was completely unable to keep possession of the ball. He missed even the easy rebounds. His dribbling was useless, and none of his throws were anywhere near the basket. Leon had to turn his brother away.
Edward was always a whiz at math. He was so advanced that he already knew how to solve long division problems before he was taught in school. Word problems, even the complicated ones with several steps, were no problem.
One day, Leon’s math teacher, pulled him aside. “ You need to do better, a lot better, or you’re not going to pass this class. There’s a big test coming up. ”
Leon’s heart sank. When he got home, he talked with Edward about it. The boys agreed that over the next two weeks they intended to spend an hour each day after school working on math problems and then an hour playing basketball.
“Here is a good one,” Edward said and pointed to a word problem. “ Why don’t you read it?”
Leon looked at the book for several seconds. “ I’m dizzy already!” He exclaimed.
“Do you know what the first step is?” asked Edward, “The first step is to stay cool and focused.” Edward talked Leon through the problem. “Think about what you need to find out. Don’t let the problem trick you.” Step by step, together they figured it out and got the right answer. Leon soon discovered that Edward was really good at helping him.
    Paragraph1.
Soon it was time for basketball practice.

根据第一段中“The British-Belgian 19-year-old, Rutherford, successfully landed her microlight aircraft back at the Airport.”(19岁的英国-比利时混血儿卢瑟福成功地将她的超轻型飞机降落在机场。)以及第二段中的“the previous woman record holder, who was 30 when she completed her ‘Dreams Soar’ around- the-world flight.”(之前的女性纪录保持者是在其30岁时完成环球“梦想翱翔”的)可知,卢瑟福是19岁成功地将她的超轻型飞机降落在机场,而该项活动之前的女性纪录保持者是在30岁完成的。
根据题干中的“stop in California”可将答案定位到第二段,根据文中的“They included an unscheduled stop in California, due to the fierce wildfires .”(由于凶猛的野火,他们在加州临时停留)可知,停留的原因是野火过于凶猛,故选A。
根据第三段中“Rutherford grew up around airplanes. Her British father flies commercially, while her Belgian mother is also a pilot.”(卢瑟福是在飞机环境中长大的。
根据文章最后一段中主人公所说的话“It’s an easy thing to say, but just go for it. If you don’t try and see how high you can fly, then you’ll never know.”(说起来容易,但是要努力争取。 同时根据第二段中“Despite the severe difficulties, the determined young pilot never gave up on her dream.”(尽管困难重重,这位意志坚定的年轻飞行员从未放弃她的梦想。)以及第三段中“With her goal of flying around the world completed, Rutherford now has her sights set even higher. She wants to become an astronaut and explore space.”(完成了环球飞行的目标后,卢瑟福现在把目标定得更高了。 故选A。

16.根据空前“When you were a kid, did you ever dream about getting locked somewhere overnight? Maybe it was a store dressing room, a train station, or a corner of a museum. When you’re young, there’s something romantic about being alone and awake as the rest of the world sleeps. (当你还是个孩子的时候,你有没有梦想过被锁在某个地方过夜?也许它是一个商店更衣室,火车站,或博物馆的一个角落。当你年轻的时候,当整个世界都在睡觉的时候,你独自一人醒着,这是一种浪漫的感觉)”可知,此处使用时间推移的方式描写自己的梦想。空后“ I got to spend an entire night by myself at O’Hare International Airport. (我一个人在奥黑尔国际机场待了一整晚)”是童年梦想中的一个例子。由此可知,A项“At age 41, I finally got to live my childhood dream (41岁时,我终于实现了童年的梦想)”符合上下文语境。故选A。
17.根据空前“On the night of December 4, I missed my 7 pm flight from Chicago to my home in Baltimore. (12月4日晚上,我错过了晚上7点从芝加哥飞往巴尔的摩家中的航班)”可知,前面提到错过航班要等下一班飞机。以及空后“ So I decided to draw on my “extra vacation time” and make my own adventure.(所以我决定利用我的“额外假期”来进行我自己的冒险)”可知,有“额外假期”是因为错过航班,到下一班飞机起飞还有很长时间。由此可知,D项“The next plane wouldn’t be arriving until early the next morning(下一班飞机要到第二天一早才到)”符合上下文语境。故选D。
18.根据空前“Carrying on my trip, I was greeted with a full size copy of a dinosaur skeleton housed at Chicago’s Field Museum(在旅途中,我在芝加哥菲尔德博物馆看到了一具恐龙骨架的全尺寸复制品)”以及空后“But with airport-quality bones, you can get up close and personal. (但有了机场级别的骨架,你可以近距离接触)”可知,此处在对比观看恐龙骨骼的距离。由此可知,G项“At museums, you are forced to keep your distance from dinosaur bones(在博物馆,你不得不与恐龙骨骼保持距离)”符合上下文语境。故选G。
19.根据空后“ I thought little of them when my fight took off at 7 a.m. By the time my plane touched down in Baltimore, they were going viral. (当我的航班在早上7点起飞时,我没怎么想它们。我的飞机在巴尔的摩着陆的时候,它们已经疯传了)”可知,这里的它们是上传的记录作者机场经历的视频或照片。由此可知,F项“Arriving at my gate, I posted some of my airport adventures online(到达登机口后,我把我在机场的一些经历发到网上)”符合上下文语境。故选F。
20.根据空前“When I realized my experience was resonating (产生共鸣) with thousands of people, I actually felt sad. Was it really that unusual for someone to walk around an airport to see the sights? (当我意识到我的经历与成千上万的人产生共鸣时,我感到难过。对一个人来说,在机场四处走走看看风景真的那么不寻常吗?)”可知,人们对在机场四处走走看风景的经历感到很惊奇,这让作者很难过。E项“It seems that everyone has grown blind to the beauty all around(似乎每个人都对我们周围的美丽视而不见了)”正是对上文现象的一种解释,符合上下文语境。故选E。

    Dear Mrs. Li,
I’m Li Hua, a neighbor living next to your house. I’m writing to express my dissatisfaction about the noise your daughter has been making recently.
The reason for my dissatisfaction is that it is at noon every day that your daughter practices playing the piano, which greatly affects both my life and online study. For one thing, as a high school senior, I’m engaged in making preparations for College Entrance Examination. Therefore, the noise makes it hard for me to concentrate on my study. For another, although occasionally the music your daughter plays sounds wonderful it disturbs me and I find it difficult to get enough sleep.
I sincerely hope that your daughter can adjust the time and place of practicing. I would appreciate it if you could solve the problem as soon as possible.
    Yours faithfully,
    Li Hua

Soon it was time for basketball practice. Edward held the ball with sweaty hands., standing on the court nervously. “Stay cool and stay focused. Those rules work in basketball, too.” Leon said. “Let’s start from the basics.” With Leon’s patient instructions, Edward started to practice dribbling. At first Edward would get frustrated because he couldn’t remember all the steps. But after attentive practice his performance changed for the better. The next two weeks saw the two brothers inspiring each other and making progress steadily. Edward learned how to shoot, pass and rebound; Leon was able to solve more and more complicated word problems.
The morning of the math test came all too soon for Leon. “Stay cool and focused!” With Edward’s encouraging words echoing in his mind, Leon calmed down and buried himself in the questions. Eventually, he finished the paper with flying colors. The bell ringing, Leon handed in the paper, darted out of the classroom and went to Edward. He invited Edward to play basketball with him after school. At the court, Leon’s friends were amazed by how much Edward had improved. They had so much fun! “That was pretty good basketball for a math whiz,” said Leon as he and Edward headed home. “Just like your math grade! It was a pretty good grade for a basketball all-star.”
