BI enjoy throwing stuff away. I’d love to go full minimalism(极简主义),but my wife and two teenage kids do not share my dream of a house with almost nothing in it. I have tried. When the kids were little, I taught them my two favorite games-“Do We Need It?” and “Put It in Its Place”- and made them play every few months. Their enthusiasm never matched mine.If I'm going to be honest, my own tidying skills are not as great as I'd like. My "discarded" pile is never quite the trash mountain I want because I make up excuses for why things are useful. I consider this unhealthy. I want to be better at moving on.So, this time f found help - the classics for people like me: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. by Marie Kondo. Kondo's commitment to her craft is astonishing. Her philosophy is only to keep things you love. Can I go full Kondo? I will try. One central idea is to clean by category. You start by collecting all clothes and gathering them together for consideration. It makes you rethink how you organize. Next, hold each item and ask if it brings you joy. This way you're choosing what to keep. And that's how I find myself with all my clothes on my bedroom floor. My wife walks by and gives me a look that says I'm nuts. She's probably not wrong.Somewhere near the bottom of this chaos is my special jacket. I move through the pile: pants, shirts, suits and shoes. Then my last category: jackets. I haven't worn the thing in about 30 years.Somehow,it has survived. Now that I’m striving (力求)to follow Kondo -surely, its time has come?I hold it in my hand. There is a tear just below the collar that widens as I hold it. It's literally falling apart. Will I ever wear it again? Not a chance. Does it feel good to wear? Does it bring me joy? Actually, yes. At this moment, my daughter walks in. She asks about the jacket. I tell her the story. She thinks I should keep it. It's cool and unique and full of memories. She is arguing that nostalgia(怀念) is the very reason.I'm not entirely convinced by my daughter's arguments. I believe in looking ahead, not backward. Nevertheless, sometimes it's hard to let go. So I gently place the jacket on the “keep” pile.24. What does the underlined word “discarded” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. adjustedB. keptC. abandoned · D. tidied

A. To learn how to categorize.C. To persuade his family members.B. To improve his tidying skills.D. To develop passion for minimalism.
26. What is the attitude of the author's family members toward minimalism?
A. They are curious about it.C. They are strongly against it.B. They completely support it.D. They are less passionate about it.
27. The author keeps the jacke probably because of .
A. the joy it brings himC .the belief in nostalgiaB. his wife's statementsD. his daughter's indifference
CWe all know that unpleasant feeling when we're talking about something interesting and halfway through our sentence we’re interrupted(打断).But was that really an interruption? The answer depends on whom you ask, according to new research led by Katherine Hilton from Stanford University.Using a set of controlled audio clips, Hilton surveyed 5, 000 American English speakers to better understand what affects people's perceptions of interruptions. She had participants listen to audio clips and then answer questions about whether the speakers seemed to be friendly and engaged, listening to one another, or trying to interrupt.Hilton found that American English speakers have different conversational styles. She identified two groups: high and low intensity speakers. High intensity speakers are generally uncomfortable with moments of silence in conversation and consider talking at the same time a sign of engagement. Low intensity speakers find it rude to talk at the same time and prefer people speak one after another in conversation. The differences in conversational styles became obvious when participants listened to audio clips in which two people spoke at the same time but were agreeing with each other and stayed on topic, Hilton said. The high intensity group reported that conversations where people spoke at the same time when expressing agreement were not interruptive but engaged and friendlier than the conversations with moments of silence in between speaking turns. In contrast, the low intensity group perceived any amount of simultaneous (同时)chat as a rude interruption, regardless of what the speakers were saying.“People care about being interrupted, and those small interruptions can have a massive effect on the overall communication," Hilton said. “Breaking apart what an interruption means is essential if we want to understand how humans interact with each other.”28.What does Hilton's research focus on?A. What interruptions mean to people.B.Whether interruption is good or not.C.How to avoid getting interrupted.D.Why speakers interrupt each other.29.What do participants of the study need to do?A.Record an audio clip. B. Answer some questions.C.Listen to one another. D. Have a chat with a friend.30.What do low intensity speakers think of simultaneous chat?
A.It's important.C.It's inefficient.B.It's interesting.D.It's impolite.
31.What can we learn from Hilton's research?A. Conversational styles affect perceptions of interruptions.B. Communication is the very basis of our everyday life.C Interruptions during conversations contribute to thinking.D Language barriers will always exist regardless of the content.DIn order to help discover spoilage(变质)and reduce food waste for supermarkets and consumers, researchers have developed new low-cost, smart phone-linked, eco-friendly spoilage sensors for meat and fish packaging:One in three UK consumers throw away food just because it reaches the use-by date (保存期),but 60% (4.2 million tonnes) of the £12.5 billion-worth of food we throw away each year is safe to eat.The researchers, whose findings were published in ACS Sensors, say the sensors could also eventually replace the use-by date-a widely used indicator of being fresh and eatable. The sensors cost two US cents each to make. Known as “paper-based electrical gas sensors(PEGS)”,they detect spoilage gases like ammonia (a poisonous gas with a strong unpleasant smelt in meat and fish products. The information provided by the electronic nose is received by a smart phone, and then you can know whether the food is fresh and safe to eat.The Imperial College London researchers who developed PEGS made the sensors by printing carbon electrodes(电极)onto a special type of paper. The materials are eco-friendly and harmless, so they don't damage the environment and are safe to use in food packaging. The sensors, combined with a tiny electronic system, then inform nearby mobile devices, which identify and understand the data about spoilage gases.Lead author Dr Firat Guder, of Imperial's Department of Bioengineering, said, “Although they're designed to keep us safe, use-by dates can lead to eatable food being thrown away. They don't always reflect its actual freshness. In fact, people often get sick from foodborne diseases due to poor storage, even when an item is within its use-by date.”“These sensors are cheap enough so we hope to see supermarkets using them within three years. Our goal is to use PEGS in food packaging to reduce unnecessary food waste.”The authors hope that PEGS could have applications beyond food processing, like sensing chemicals in agriculture, air quality, and detecting disease markers in breath like those involved in kidney disease.32. What is the function of PEGS according to the text?A. To improve the service of stores. B. To help supermarkets store foods.C.To improve the taste of food products.D. To determine whether food has gone bad.33.What role does the smartphone play while PEGS are functioning?A It acts as an electronic nose.B. It reads the data collected by PEGS.C. It discovers the spoilage gases from foods.D. It helps print the gas sensors onto paper.34.What does Dr Firat Guder say about use-by dates?A.They are not always reliable.B. They can help reduce food waste.C.They are not accepted by consumers.D. They are based on scientific research35. What does the author mainly talk about in the text?A.The process of researching spoilage sensors.B. A new technology in packaging to reduce food waste.C.Use by dates' influence on supermarkets and consumers.D. The application of spoilage sensors beyond food processing.第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项多余选项。We spend most of the year complaining that Britain is too cold and wet but with just as much enthusiasm about the heat. Although complaining about the weather is satisfying, it's better to take action and cool yourself down. You need to take extra care in the UK when temperatures hit 24℃. 36Being too hot makes you unwell and can even kill you. 37 People over 65, under five, pregnant women, those with medical conditions (such as heart disease and mental health conditions) and those who work outside need extra protection in hot weather.Research shows that putting your feet in cold water is a good way to reduce core body temperature. And keep your organs working. It will also help reduce swelling in your ankles and feet.38_However,don't attempt to fully soak in freezing cold water as cold shock can be dangerous. In drought conditions, remember to conserve water and just concentrate on cooling either your feet, hands or neck and face, which will also be effective. It is important to stay hydrated(补充水分)and refill the minerals we lose when we sweat. On average in very hot conditions, we sweat 3-4 litres per hour and up to 10 litres a day, the same as 40 cups of tea. For a short amount of time, hot drinks raise your core body temperature. But it induces(引起)sweating, which then lowers your temperature. Cold and ice drinks do cool you down too. It's thought hot drinks might be slightly more effective than cold. 39Another way to beat the heat is swimming.40_Slowly submerge(淹没)your body in the water, understand the limits of your swimming ability and know the rules about where it is safe to swim, because many people drown in hot weather.A.But be aware of cold shock.B.Some people are more fragile to heat.C.You will definitely be ill with the icy drinks.D. Whatever the temperature is, drink lots of fluid.E, Heatwaves can often result in severe droughts.F. This is when heat illness and deaths start increasing.G. Moreover, having a shower or bath will cool you down faster.第三部分 完形填空(每题1分,总分15分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。When I was a child my father taught me five words that I've used all my life-in my acting career, as a mother, in my business activities. I could hardly stand in front of a large crowd to make a speech, but Sean could. He was selected to do the honor because he was the President of the Boy Scouts. My job was much simpler. Being the Vice-President, I was very much behind the scenes, content to ensure that
everything was in smooth running order. It was an hour to go before the ceremony began, and I had put the finishing touches to the stage. Walking down the stage, I saw my teammates in a state of panic (恐慌).When they saw me, they ran to me to tell me that Sean met with a traffic accident and would not make it to the award ceremony. Someone else had to give the summary. All of them looked hopefully at me, and I could feel my knees beginning to collapse. All their arguments against my unwillingness were reasonable. I had a copy of the speech as well as the benefit of having seen Sean rehearse(排练)it. I was the Vice-President and therefore should take his place. Finally, I was firmly told not to turn it down any longer and they said that they were convinced that I would do the right thing. I sank down onto the floor, totally shocked by the situation.I knew I was not a confident speaker, and the thought of presenting a summary in front of so many distinguished gusts horrified me. To think that the fame of the scouts would take a beating because of me! The burden of responsibility troubled me greatly. But there was really no way out of the situation. In the end, I quickly rehearsed the speech and got ready to go on stage for the presentation. I looked calm, but inside I was a trembling. Although they kept encouraging me, I still felt very worried that my poor performance would cost us the opportunity to win an award. Soon after, I was called to do the presentation. Having butterflies in my stomach, I walked onto the stage.注意:1.续写词数应为80到100词;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。As I stood on the stage, my heart beat violently. 江苏省苏州中学2022-2023学年度高一英语参考答案第一部分 听力(每小题1.5分,满分30分)1~5 CCABB 6~10 CAACB 11~15 BACBA 16~20 CABBA第二部分 阅读理解(每题2.5分,共50分)21~23 CDB24~27 CBDA28~31 ABDA32~35 DBAB36~40 FBGDA第三部分 完形填空(每题1分,总分15分)41~45 ABDCA46~50 DBBAC51~55 DBCAD第四部分 语法填空(每空1.5分,共15分)56.who/that 57.to increase 58.brought 59.and 60.economic 61.in 62.steps 63.further 64.an 65.raising第五部分 单词拼写(每空1分,共10分)66.otherwise; 67.crashed;; 68.distance; 69.sharp; 70.dawned; 71.remove; 72.commenting; 73.orderly;74.addicted 75.delivery;第六部分 应用文(共15分)参考范文Dear Sir or Madam,Knowing that the school English newspaper is looking for an editor responsible for the column “Traditional Chinese Culture”, I'm writing to apply for the position.I think I’m qualified for it.
