Climate change is a serious problem all over the globe. In order to prevent it, one of the best ways is to plant more trees. Because trees can take in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) in the air and prevent global warming. “The earth is getting greener,” according to a recent study by Chi Chen. “China is doing a great job of ‘greening’ the world.”
Chi Chen, a student at Beijing University, has been working to monitor (跟踪调查) the earth’s green vegetation (植被). He and his friends have used a special camera to see how many new trees have been grown. Chi Chen and his team have found that China has greatly expanded (增加) their forest area. “China and India account for one-third of the earth’s expanded greening,” Chi Chen said.
The data (数据) they collected from 2000 to 2020 showed that China was responsible (负责任的) for 25% of the global increase in green vegetation during the period. The growth was mainly caused by forest protection and expansion programs that China created. For example, since 1962, China has been planting trees in Saihanba (塞罕坝湿地) in Hebei Province. After getting over many difficulties, foresters have turned the area into China’s largest man-made forest. Another example is the Mu Us Desert (毛乌素沙漠). It was once known for its sandstorms. But now, one-quarter of the desert has been turned into forests.

D.China has greatly expanded their green coverage.
53.What do we know from the passage?
A.Half of the earth’s forest area is in China.
    B.The earth’s green vegetation has increased by 25 %.
C.The findings of Chi Chen’s team are based on 20 years of data.
D.Saihanba is the largest man-made forest in the world.
54.Why was China responsible for 25% of the global increase in green vegetation?
A.Because the climate change is a serious problem.
B.Because a special camera has been used.
C.Because of the data they collected from 2000 to 2020.
D.Because of forest protection and expansion programs that China created.

Here comes Junior 3 year! This means that the high school entrance exam will arrive in less than a year. How will you get through the final year of middle school and get ready for the big exam?
We invited two students to share their thoughts.
    Zeng Qingmian, 15, Jiangxi
I got a score of 730 out of 750 on the big exam. Junior 3 was quite stressful and it was even harder for a boarding school(寄宿学校)student like me. I needed to make detailed plans-not only for studying, but also daily chores like washing my clothes.
I was highly focused during class and tried to remember everything my teachers said. To me, this is far more effective(有效的)than spending time doing exercises after class. During self-study time at night, I took every chance to ask teachers questions. I also counted time while doing quizzes(测试). This helped improve my learning efficiency.
I didn’t have many review materials. My method was to make up my own questions. After solving a math problem, for example, I would design my own problems that used the same concepts(理念)share their thoughts.
    Huang Ziyi, 15, Beijing
I got a score of 560 out of 580 on the high school entrance exam. For me, knowing my strengths and keeping a stable(稳定的)mind are necessary to make progress. The competition in Beijing is fierce(激烈的). Many students have tutors. I once took a coding(编程)class, but found that I wasn’t good at it. So I gave up and focused more on what I’m good at.
I have applied this principle(原则)to my studies. I go over the key points of each unit to strengthen my skills in subjects like physics and math. When taking a test, I usually don’t pay attention to the questions I don’t know and try to solve them at the end if there is still some time left. One should learn to stay calm in situations like these. Don’t worry too much about the result of one test as long as you are learning and improving.
36.What does Zeng try to do in class?
A.Make a study plan. B.Ask the teacher questions.
C.Listen to the teacher carefully. D.Do as many exercises as possible.
37.Why does Zeng count time while doing quizzes?
A.To put extra pressure on himself. B.To make full use of his time.
C.To practise his handwriting. D.To save time for asking questions.
38.What does “this principle” in Huang’s story mean?
A.Keep a clean mind. B.Ask for help if necessary.

39.Does Huang Ziyi do well in coding?

A.Unforgettable memories from one’s final year.
B.How to deal with pressure and worries.
C.Ways to stay calm during big exams.
D.How to study in Junior 3.

"Today I will give you a special test," said the English teacher with a smile on his face.
All the students sat up straight and waited for the test to begin. The teacher began to give the test papers to all the students. After he finished handing out the test papers, he asked them to begin.
The students were very surprised to see that there was not a question but a black dot(圆点)in the center of the paper. The teacher noticed the students' surprise and said, "I want you to write about what you see there." At the end of the class, the teacher took all the students' answer sheets and read the answers. All of them described the black dot. After reading all the answers, the teacher said, "Here everyone only paid attention to the black dot, but no one wrote about the white paper." The whole class listened silently, because they were afraid to fail in the exam. Then the teacher said, "Don't worry about your marks for this test. I just want you to think about our life. The white paper is like our whole life and the black dot in the center of the paper represents(代表)problems in our daily life".
Our life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care. However, we just pay attention to the problems like illness and poverty, and never see happy things in our life. So we should try to solve our problems and enjoy each moment life gives us.
41.What was in the center of the paper?

    Passage 2
Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. Suddenly she stopped before a store of dolls. “Girls like dolls,” she thought as she stepped into it. Looking around, she saw a grandma doll—one with gray hair and a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her mother.
When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third… A doll a year never arrived late.
“Why always a doll?” This question had been in Amy’s mind until one day her father gave the answer.
Little Joyce dreamed to have a doll. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never-received gift was the most precious (珍贵的) in her eyes.

    Passage 3
There are many useful inventions in the world. Have you ever wished to have an umbrella that makes your hands free? Alan Kaufman has thought up the “Nubrella”, which means “new”+ “umbrella”. It is the first truly hands-free umbrella in the world. The inventor says that it stops rain, wind and snow and can keep your head, face and hair dry.
“I never planned to invent a product. I just noticed a problem and thought up a solution,” said the inventor. The idea for the invention began on one rainy day. Mr Kaufman was standing in one of his stores. He began to look at people’s umbrellas. He found that they had to try very hard to keep their umbrellas in the right place. At that moment an idea came into his mind. He ran to his desk and drew a picture. In this way, the Nubrella was born. One cool feature of the Nubrella is that you don’t hold it like a usual umbrella, you wear it. The shoulder straps(肩带) of the Nubrella allow people to be fully hands-free, so when walking in the rain with the Nubrella, you are able to use your cell phone or drink a hot cup of coffee. Also, the Nubrella will never be inverted(颠倒) in the wind. The new umbrella is far safer than traditional ones, because it has no sharp points.

    Passage 4
You may know about "junk food" like French fries. But do you know about "junk sleep"?
Recently, a British survey found that electronic products in teenagers' bedrooms are affecting their sleep.
The survey was done among 1 000 British kids aged 12 to 16. It found that 30 percent of them got just 4 to 7 hours sleep every day. But experts say they need 8 to 9 hours.
Almost a quarter of the kids said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products.
"This is very worrying," said Dr Chris Idzikowski, a British expert. "We call it 'junk sleep'. It means you don't get enough sleep and the quality of the sleep is bad too. If you don't get good rest, you don't perform well in school the next day." The survey found that 40 percent of the kids felt tired each day, with girls aged 15 to 16 feeling the worst.

    A. Teenagers need 4 to 7 hours of sleep each day.
