    Brian Hamiltn’s life changed in a prisn when he was accmpanying his friend, Reverend Rbert J. Harris, wh ften went t lcal prisns t d his wrk. During the visit, Hamiltn started talking t ne f the prisners and asked what he was ging t d when he gt ut.
    “He said he was ging t get a jb,” Hamiltn recalls(回忆). “I thught t myself, ww, that’s ging t be difficult with a criminal backgrund.”
    The cnversatin made Hamiltn cnsider hw prisners culd benefit frm entrepreneurship, smething he thught abut fr years. Finally in 2008, 16 years after that initial cnversatin, Hamiltn created Inmates t Entrepreneurs, a nnprfit rganizatin that helps peple with criminal backgrunds start their wn small businesses. “Harris and I taught ur first curse at a prisn called ‘Hw t Start Yur Own Business When Yu Get Out’,” he recalls.
    At the time, Hamiltn was building his wn cmpany, Sagewrks. As Sagewrks grew, s did Hamiltn’ s time spent teaching at prisns thrughut Nrth Carlina.
    Eventually, Hamiltn decided it was time t change his fcus t his true passin. In May 2018, he sld his stake(股份) in Sagewrks, fcusing his cmmitment n Inmates t Entrepreneurs.
    “Nw, anyne is able t access the curriculum, either t becme an instructr t g int prisns t teach it r t access it fr themselves as a prisner r part f the general ppulatin,” Hamiltn explains. In additin, he visits middle schls and presents the curriculum t at-risk students as a preventative measure against crime.
    The free curriculum is funded by the recently established Brian Hamiltn Fundatin, which ffers assistance t military members as they adjust t civilian life and prvides lans t small businesses. “We’re giving prisners smething they can d independent f a system that isn’t wrking fr them. In fur ut f five f the trials, music therapy wrked better at easing depressin symptms than therapies that did nt emply music, the researchers fund.
    “While the evidence came frm a few small studies, it suggests that this is an area that is well wrth further investigatin.” said lead authr Anna Marats. Ms. Marats ntes that music therapy might be particularly useful fr adlescents wh may reject a traditinal frm f cunseling. Sme lder patients als may nt be cmfrtable talking abut their feelings but d tend t express themselves thrugh sngs.
    There are tw main types f music therapy. Smetimes, a therapist will listen t music with a patient and talk abut the feelings r memries that it aruses.
