On Tuesday night, Jasmine found her list of things to do, which was supposed to be under her pillow. The first thing on the list was to do her homework. However, she did not have time for that. She needed to prepare for the trip that their parents had planned for that weekend instead. That list was prepared by Clyde, her elder brother. After she had packed all the items on the list, she quickly fell asleep.
The next morning, Clyde and Jasmine boarded the school bus as usual. They sat together at the back of the bus. When the bus arrived at school, everyone got off the bus, except for Jasmine. She remembered her incomplete homework and feared the thought of being scolded by her teacher, Mrs. Geller. Jasmine was absorbed in her thoughts.

I saw the Swedish film adaptation (starred by Tobias Almborge and Anna-Lena Brudin )of Fredrik Backman's incredibly funny, heartbreaking novel “A Man Called Ove”. Toward the end of that film, which was beautifully written and directed by Hannes Holm, there is a scene in which Ove, a widower (鳏夫)in his 60s,takes his neighbors out for a drive. As they ride together, the normally unfriendly and severe Ove sighs, allows himself a rare smile and says: “This is living. ”
Most viewers probably didn't give this little comment of Ove's a second thought. For me, though, it marked the turning point of Ove's search for renewed purpose in his life.
In Ove, Backman has created a character who at times can be unreasonable, stubborn and even downright rude - the sort of man whose shocking and morally unacceptable reactions to everyday situations become the subject of comic anecdotes that are retold countless times by enemies and friends alike.
Many of the people telling those stories don't realize, though, that much of Ove's strange behavior is actually a symptom of his private heartache. Widowed, living alone and recently pushed into retirement, Ove is struggling at the outset of Backman's story to find something worth living for, and his unwillingness to share with others what he is going through serves only to further separate him from the world. Ove's situation reminds me of the isolation we all felt during the COVID pandemic. I saw along with everyone else how quickly loneliness and isolation can influence harmony, driving people apart at a time when we need to connect to others the most.
Ove is just going on a drive with neighbors when he says, “This is living, " but I think he is feeling the way many of us did when the pandemic became less serious and we began to reconnect with the world. In that moment, Ove has started to find his new purpose just by allowing others back into his life and caring for them.
28. Who is the screenwriter of A Man Called Ove?
A. Tobias Almborge.
B. Anna-Lena Brudin.
C. Fredrik Backman.
D. Hannes Holm.
29. What can we know about Ove?
A. He was born with bad temper.
B. He is popular with people around.
C. He has integrated himself into society.
D. He suffers from social anxiety disorder.
30. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. Ove's present living situation.
B. The influence of the COVID pandemic.
C. The reasons behind Ove's strange behavior.
D. The importance of relationship with others.
31. What is this text?
A. A diary entry.
B. A movie review.
C. A book introduction.
D. A short story.

In less than 2 months, the artificial intelligence (AI) program ChatGPT has become a cultural sensation (轰动). ChatGPT is developed with a technique called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback to train the language model, enabling it to automatically create text based on written prompts. I asked it to rewrite the first scene of the classic American play Death of a Salesman. The output was an amusing conversation. This is certainly fun, but there are serious implications for generative Al programs like ChatGPT in science and academia.
Many concerns relate to how ChatGPT will change education. It certainly can write essays about a range of topics. I gave it both an exam and a final project. It did well finding factual answers, but the scholarly writing still has a long way to go. If anything, the implications for education may push academics to rethink their courses in innovative ways and give assignments that aren't easily solved by Al. That could be for the best.
More worrisome are the effects of ChatGPT on writing scientific papers. In a recent study abstract created by ChatGPT were submitted to academic reviewers, who only caught 63% of these fakes. That's a lot of Al-generated text that could find its way into the literature soon.
The text written by ChatGPT is not acceptable. An Al program cannot be an author. Still, according to Editorial Policies, text generated by ChatGPT (or any other Al tools) cannot be used in the work, nor can figures, images, or graphics be the products of such tools. Breaking these policies will be considered scientific misconduct (学术不端)no different from plagiarism (剽窃)of existing works.
The scientific record is ultimately one of the human efforts of struggling with important questions. Machines play an important role, but as tools for the people giving the hypotheses (假设),designing the experiments and making sense of the results. Ultimately the product must come from-and be expressed by-the wonderful computer in our heads.
32. What does the underlined word “implications" probably mean in Paragraph1?
A. Competitions.
B. Incidents.
C. Restrictions.
D. Effects.
33. What could be ChatGPT's benefit for education, if any?
A. It could help better the scholarly writing.
B. It could write essays about varieties of topics.
C. It could be used to design difficult assignments.
D. It could urge academics to make improvements.
34. What can be inferred about ChatGPT?
A. It is welcomed by academics.
B. It may cause scientific misconduct.
C. It is basically useless for scientific research.
D. It works greatly to the advantage of education.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. ChatGPT Is Fun, But Not an Author
B. ChatGPT Has Become a Cultural Sensation
C. ChatGPT Will Change Our Way of Education
D. ChatGPT Plays an Important Role in Science

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As I look out of the window, an icy wind blows oak leaves across the yard1. The stove in the living room has been maintaining a temperature that keeps my family comfortable through this winter's temperature swings. 36
Plants naturally lose water from leaves through a process called transpiration (蒸腾作用). As a result, the plant's roots take up water from the soil to replace what was lost. 37 The flow of warm air over the plant's leaves causes it to transpire at a faster rate. This means plants should be moved so that they are not in the path of airflow from the stove. It also means the soil should be checked for dryness more often during winter months.
38 Plants are commonly used in entryways to welcome guests. However, a wintry chill of 50 degrees or less every time a door is opened can have an adverse effect on some of the more sensitive plants.
Secondly, we generally locate our plants where they will receive the best amount of sunlight for their needs. However, as seasons change, so does the sun's location. In fall/winter months, the sun moves southward to a lower position in the sky. 39 You may need to move the plant so that the light it receives is suitable for its needs.
Since light levels are lower in winter and plant growth slows, houseplants typically have little need for fertilizer during winter months. 40 A general rule of thumb when using houseplant fertilizers is to apply the fertilizer at one-half the rate recommended on the label.
A. It is not recommended to fertilize.
B. Eventually, the soil will become dry.
C. Wait until late winter/early spring to fertilize.
D. It may change the amount of light reaching your plant.
E. There are two additional considerations for where to place houseplants.
F. You should water when the soil feels dry to the touch one-half-inch deep.
G. While this may be good for the family, it may not be so for my houseplants.
