2023届高考英语一轮复习语法总动员之阅读理解(2)1. Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she’s been during her worldwide vacation in a special way. The traveler, who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated(截肢) at the age of four. Although the amputation caused setbacks for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life. To spread that message, Gallagher has taken to social media, where she shares photos of her travels across the globe, but instead of simply using a geotag, she writes her location across her artificial leg before taking a picture. Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam, relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in Brussels, taking spectacular pictures in Athens and enjoying a river cruise in Budapest, all with the wellknown locations written on her artificial leg. “I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalkboard,” Gallagher said. “My mum and grandmother weren’t too keen on the idea, but my friends thought it was great and told me to go for it, so I did.” Gallagher said people often stare when she’s writing on her leg, but once she shares the photos, she receives only positive feedback. “My leg hasn’t stopped me from doing anything I’ve wanted to do,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s my determination to prove to myself that I can do it, but regardless, I’ve been able to keep up with my peers and lead a pretty great life.” Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams. And if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.1.What message did Gallagher want to spread in her special way?A.She enjoys her traveling across the globe.B.She suffers little from her leg amputation.C.She looks on her misfortune as another form of blessing.D.She has exactly fallen in love with posting photos online.2.What does the underlined word “which” in Paragraph 4 refer to?A.The Continent. Reports from China, India, Southeast Asia and Africa suggest that average yield increases of 20 to 50 percent are regularly being achieved by farmers adopting the "system of rice intensification(集约化)"(SRI),which needs one-tenth as many seeds and aims to stimulate the root system of plants rather than trying to increase yields in the conventional way by using improved seeds and fertilizers. The idea of using less to gain more is seen as an important innovation(革新) for adapting farming to climate change and a way to increase yields at a time when human populations are growing fast but traditional plant breeding and genetically modified techniques have failed to increase yields more than a few percentage points, says Norman Uphoff, professor of international agriculture at Cornell. The new way to grow rice needs only half as much water, and is proving most popular in water-stressed countries, says Tavseef Mairaj Shah, a Ph.D. researcher. "Rice growing in Kashmir largely depends on irrigation systems that draw water from the river Jhelum. But climate change is leading to drier winters, untimely rains, and warmer summers." “SRI is a great technique, not just from the water-saving perspective but because it offers better yields and soil conditions. Different studies, both at the experimental level and farmer-participative level, have shown that SRl improves yields with less water.” Shah adds. Some academic, the global seed industry and the international community once rejected reports of “fantastic” yields, accusing farmers of falsifying(篡改)records and researchers of carelessness and "non-science". But more than 600 articles, checked by SRI International at Cornell University, have shown benefits. Uphoff says, "Attitudes are changing. The original hostility(敌意) has gone." However, the early opposition has resulted in comparatively little scientific research being conducted into SRI and a slow understanding by funders.12.How does SRI increase the yields of rice?A. By sowing more seeds B. By using improved seeds.C. By improving its root system. D. By adopting special fertilizers.13.Compared with the conventional method for growing rice, SRI________.A. needs less water B. increases labor costsC. requires better soil conditions D. depends on genetically modified techniques14.What was the global seed industry's initial attitude toward reports on SRI?A. Curious B. Skeptical. C. Approving D. Uninterested.15.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?A. How to Increase YieldsB. People's Attitudes Towards SRIC. Since 1980, obesity rates(肥胖率)in children and adults have doubled in 73 countries, making people more worried. And rates are increasing in many other countries. Obesity is increasing faster in children than adults in many nations, including Algeria, Turkey and Jordan, the report said. But the world’s weight problem is growing in both rich and poor countries alike. Researchers say an increasing number of people are dying of related health problems in what they called a “disturbing global public health problem.” Researchers studied health information from 1980 through 2015. They examined obesity rates, average weight gain in 195 countries. They found that obesity rates are three times greater among youth and young adults in countries like China, Brazil and India. Almost 108 million children and more than 600 million adults were found to be overweight. Egypt had the highest number of overweight adults in 2015. Vietnam had the least. In the same year, the United States had the highest number of overweight children, and Bangladesh had the least. Yet hunger remains a problem in many areas. The United Nations said that almost 800 million people, including 300 million children, go to bed hungry each night. Experts said poor diets and lack of physical activity are mainly the reason for the rising numbers of overweight people. Growing populations have led to rising obesity rates in poor countries. Often, poor people will eat processed foods instead of choosing a diet rich in vegetables. The London-based Overseas Development Institute studied the price of food in five countries: Britain, Brazil, China, Mexico and South Korea. It found that the cost of processed foods like ice cream and hamburgers has fallen since 1990. But the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables has gone up.23.What do we know about obesity in the world?A. Maria really liked some things about the city, but she missed her house and yard in the countryside. One day, Maria was in her flat building when she noticed her neighbor, Mrs. Garcia, carrying a gardening tool and a bag of soil. Maria wondered how Mrs. Garcia was able to garden in the city. “My mom used to grow the most delicious vegetables, and I know she misses her garden now that we don’t have a yard,” said Maria. Mrs. Garcia laughed. “I’ll show you,” she said. Maria thought that Mrs. Garcia would take her to the park, but she took her to the roof(屋顶).When the door opened, Maria was surprised to see rows of flowers and vegetables on the roof. “What a wonderful garden!” said Maria. Mrs. Garcia told Maria that for a long time the roof was just an empty space. Then some of the people in the building asked the owners to turn it into a community garden. The building owners liked the idea because the plants not only helped to keep the air clean, but they also helped to keep the building cooler during warmer weather. “I plant flowers in my own place,” Mrs. Garcia said, “but you would be surprised by how different the plants are up here.
