When yu read a pem, yu shuld begin by trying t understand what the pet is saying n the surface, then examine the way the pet expresses this cntent, and finally decide hw the pem's meaning is created. Here are sme steps t read a pem.
    First, read the pem nce slwly alud withut writing r marking anything. Dn't stp until yu finish the pem, even if yu dn't knw the meaning r prnunciatin f a wrd. When yu've finished, think it ver fr a mment n any wrds, images, and characters that caught yur attentin. Then read the pem again silently. When yu cme t a wrd yu dn't knw, lk it up in the dictinary.
    Understand the meaning f figurative (比喻的)language. Figurative language desn't mean exactly what it says; instead, it suggests meanings. Fr example, in the line “Lve, all alike, n seasn knws”, the pet desn't mean lve is unfamiliar with fur seasns. Lve cannt knw anything at all; nly peple can knw smething. Thus, the pet is persnifying(拟人化) lve, giving it human qualities.
    Examine and think abut the pet's use f language. Why, fr example, did the pet chse t cmpare his lve t a red rse instead f a tree r a bird? We can use assciatins: we usually assciate rses with beauty and lve, but we als knw a rse bush has thrns (刺). All f these assciatins may nt be right fr a particular pem, but many f them prbably will.
    Finally, read the pem ne mre time alud.Practice using pauses and stress t make the pem's meaning cme alive.

    In an effrt t keep a little petry in my life lng after Natinal Petry Mnth passed, I decide t read at least ne pem a day after scanning the newspaper ver breakfast. Thanks t the free nline petry-in-yur-inbx services, it’s been an easy reslutin(解决办法)t keep.
    Pem-a-Day was started during Natinal Petry Mnth in 2016, and it fcuses n new and previusly unpublished pems by cntemprary pets n weekdays and classic pems n weekends.

    Reading at least ne pem a day has been like an intellectual vitamin, giving me a small dse(剂量)f literature even n busy days when I can’t get t the nvels and nn-fictin n my desk beside the bed. Anther benefit has been cnnecting with a lt f talented pets I wuldn’t therwise knw abut. Petry being what it is, even the best talents in the style can wrk in relative bscurity(朦胧). Maybe the biggest benefit f reading a pem every mrning has been the chance t see the familiar in new ways.
    Last April, I wndered if I culd remind myself t read a pem each mrning. Nw, deep in summer, I wnder if I culd ever d withut it.
