The world's richest man might seem to have it all, but Bill Gates has one regret. The self-made billionaire said he felt stupid for not knowing any foreign languages.
Speaking in his third Ask Me Anything question-and-answer session for online programe Reddit(红迪网), the Microsoft founder revealed that he wished he spoke French, Arabic or Chinese. He said: “I took Latin and Greek in high school and got A's and I guess it helps my vocabulary. I keep hoping to study one of these — probably French because it is the easiest. I did Duolingo(免费语言学习工具)for a while but didn't keep it up.”
Gates, who is worth $79.3 billion, praised Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for mak-
ing an audience surprising in Beijing when he spoke fluent Putonghua. He said: “Mark Zuc-
kerberg amazingly learned Putonghua and did a Q&A with Chinese students — incredible.”
Owner of a building worth more than $ 120 million in his hometown of Medina, Washington, Gates' admission over language is not the first time he has given insight into his family habits and personal insights.
Last February, Gates said he likes to do the dishes himself — to his own exacting standards every night and shared the surprising revelation that his wife, Melinda, would likely want Samuel L Jackson to play her husband in a biopic (传记电影). He also admitted that he would pick up a $ 100 bill if he found it on the street.
As he took the top spot on Forbes(福布斯)28th Annual Billionaires list last year for the fourth time, he said he is pretty basic when it comes to spending on clothes and food, but that he enjoys investing in shoes and rackets(网球拍)when he plays tennis.
When asked a life lesson he had to learn the hard way, the billionaire said staying up too late is a habit he is still trying to break, “Don't stay up too late even if the book is really exciting. You will regret it in the morning. I am still working on this problem,” he said.
24. Why can’t Bill Gates speak foreign languages?
A. Because he has no time to study them.
B. Because he was slow at language learning.
C. Because he has no determination to study them.
D. Because he didn't study foreign languages at school.
25. From the passage we can learn that________.

D. Bill Gates seldom tell other people about his personal affairs.
26. What's the main idea of the 5th paragraph?
A. Gates likes to make films. B. Gates loves to do housework.
C. Gates is a common person in life. D. Gates' wife is unsatisfied with him.
27. How can we describe Gates?
A. Determined B. Extraordinary C. Reliable D. Simple

Regardless of how far we'd like to believe gender(性别)equality in the workplace has come, there's still a yawning gap between male and female leaders in the professional world. A 2018 statistic shows that women nowadays hold just 5.8 percent of CEO positions at S&P 500 companies, according to Catalyst.
While it's not a huge shock that women are somewhat underrepresented in leadership positions, what is surprising though, is the fact that females may actually be better suited to lead in almost every area, at least according to new findings from the BI Norwegian Business School.
In their research, Professor Martinsen and Professor Lars Glas surveyed 2,900 managers with a special focus on personality types. The results were clear: Women scored higher than men in four of the five major leadership-centric categories.
While some people believe that men inherently make better leaders probably because they picture a leader with a commanding voice, which is more typical of men than women----this piece of research suggests that women are better at methodical management and goal-setting, openness, sociability and supportiveness, as well as ability to communicate clearly.
There was one area in which men scored higher than women, though, and that was on emotional stability and ability to face job-related pressure and stress. The results suggest that women are more sensitive to the effects of high-pressure or highly emotional situations.
Obviously, it's important to consider individual differences. Anyone, regardless of gender, may be an inspiring leader and a competent boss. But next time you're hiring for a management position, you just might want to give the resumes (简历) from female candidates a harder look.
28. What makes us shocked much at leadership positions?
A. Women are worse than men.
B. Men take almost all high positions.
C. There is a huge gap between genders.
D. Women might behave better in nearly every field.
29. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “inherently” in Paragraph 4?
A. properly B. potentially C. naturally D. normally
30. Which of the following may be the best title of this text?
A.Why Women Make Better Leaders B. Why Women Are Better Than Men
C. How We Can Figure Out The Boss D. How We Can Tell Gender Difference
31. Who might have special interest in this article?
A. Job hunters. B. Employers. C. Employees. D. Male bosses.

To save endangered arctic wolves, the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Company cooperated with Harbin Polarland on cloning the arctic wolf. As a result, after two years of thorough efforts, the arctic wolf was cloned successfully. It is the first case of its kind in the world.
Born on June 10, 2022, the wolf, named Maya, is energetic and in very good health. Her donor cell came from the skin sample of a wild female arctic wolf, who had been introduced from Canada. However, her oocyte (卵母细胞) was from a female dog, and her
surrogate mother (代孕母体) was a beagle. The selection of a dog as Maya’s surrogate was made because dogs share a genetic ancestor with ancient wolves, and it’s more likely to succeed through cloning technology.
“This is our new attempt and breakthrough in protecting and breeding(繁育)wild and endangered animals. The birth of the world’s first cloned arctic wolf is a milestone for the application of cloning technology and is of great significance to biodiversity, the protection of wildlife, and the restoration of endangered species in the world,” Mi Jidong, the company’s general manager, said.
Cloning technology is a breeding method different from natural reproduction. Some raised controversy relating to the cloned arctic wolf. Sun Quanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection organization, said that cloning technology is still in the exploratory stage of research, and there are many technical and ethical issues that need to be addressed and treated with caution. Sun believed cloning should be considered only for endangered wild animals whose species are extinct, or whose captive populations are very limited.
The cloned wolf now lives with her surrogate beagle in a lab, and later she will be delivered to the Harbin Polarland and displayed to the public. The cloned wolf would live by herself in the park in the initial stage because she may not be able to adapt to original arctic wolf groups. However, it is reported that the technology of cloning arctic wolves has gained strong value in its application, and another male cloned arctic wolf will come into this world in the near future.
32. What do we know about Maya?
A. She is in good condition.
B. She was born in Canada.
C. She is the first cloned animal in China.
D. She shares similar living habits with dogs.
33. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. The development of cloning technology.
B. The difficulties of maintaining biodiversity.
C. Scientists’ efforts to protect endangered animals.
D. The importance of the birth of the cloned arctic wolf.
34. What is Sun Quanhui’s attitude towards cloning technology?
A. Cautious. B. Confident. C. Unclear. D. Disapproving.
35. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Maya was trained to live with wolf groups in the lab.
B. Another male arctic wolf is expected to be born soon.
C. Maya is favored by many visitors to the Harbin Polarland.
D. Cloning technology will be applied to more endangered species.

Every day, the little boy made sure he placed some money into his piggy bank.
After almost two years, the day finally arrived. “Finally!” Tommy joyfully shouted as he dropped the piggy bank to the floor. Inside was S830! More than the S600 he was aiming for! Instantly, the excited boy asked his dad to take him to the bike store.
On their way to the store,Tommy accompanied his dad to the supermarket to buy some groceries. They were lining up at the checkout when Tommy noticed an old woman with a little girt in a wheelchair. The old lady dropped her groceries on the road. She looked helpless, and since she was holding the little girl’s wheelchair, she couldn’t pick them up.

Dear editor,
I saw that your newspaper launched a discussion about whether e-bike should be promoted in the city. I’d like to share some my opinions about this discussion.
I think e-bike should be promoted in cities because on the one hand, electric vehicles can save energy and protect the environment. On the other hand, they can provide convenience for people to travel and reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents.
These are my views and I sincerely look forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
“Don't worry! My dad will help you get one.I promise!” Tommy said firmly. The boy immediately rushed back to talk to his dad about it. “Well, it’s hard to buy a car if she has no money,” Peter said. Tommy felt disheartened because he had promised Barbara he would get her a car. Then Peter came up with another suggestion. “Maybe I can help her with a monthly payment plan, so she won't have to pay the whole amount at once. But still,it won’t be easy for her.” Without hesitation,Tommy said, “I can help her with my$830!”
Peter was surprised that Tommy would offer to give all his savings to help Barbara.“Are you sure?”Peter asked.“Yes!She needs a car more than I need a bike, Dad.” Tommy said. Peter was deeply touched by his son’s kindness and agreed. Soon, he helped Barbara get a used car. Tommy was truly happy, and he stopped complaining about the things he didn’t have. Instead, he felt grateful for the good health and love he was blessed with. He realized that the goodness around him was priceless and that money was nothing compared to it.
Listening materials:
(Text 1)
M: Last weekend was amazing, wasn’t it?
W: Yes. It was. But I fell over a lot and my legs hurt!
M: Mine too. Getting down the hill was harder than playing a whole football match!
W: I want to go there again, but first I’m going to the sports center to get fit.
(Text 2)
M: Hi, Sarah. What’s wrong? Are you upset?
W: It’s 6:30. You were supposed to be here half an hour ago.
M: I’m sorry. There was so much traffic on the freeway. It won’t happen again.
(Text 3)
W: I heard there’s a sale at Brenda’s Boutique. Do you want to check it out? They have some really good clothes.
M: Yeah, but the people who work there are so rude.
W: I know what you mean.
(Text 4)
W: Oh, this show reminds me of old times. Now this is the kind of TV show you children can learn something from.
M: Ugh. The History of the Car, Grandma? I can’t think of anything more boring to watch on TV.
(Text 5)
W: I can’t wait to get away from the city this weekend!
M: I know. Well, don’t forget to pack a scarf into your bag. It gets really cold when you’re at the top of the mountain.
W: True, but you can get a great view of the sea from high up there.
(Text 6)
M: Did you get the email? The date for the dance performance is this Saturday.
W: Yes, I know. I’m sure we’ll have enough time to prepare. We’ve got five days before the big day.
M: Yes, I think we’ll be OK. We’ve already learnt the basic steps, haven’t we?
W: But the dance teacher’s away on holiday for the next 3 days so we’ll have to practice on our own. I’m not sure we have anyone in the group who’s strong enough to take charge. You know how we argue so much.
(Text 7)
M: Hello. I just realized that I left the office without sending an important email. I can do it on my phone while I shop for groceries, as long as there’s Wi-Fi available here.
W: I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t have any in the store. The manager thinks it helps keep the employees off their phones while working.
M: Oh. I see. Well, do you know any place nearby where I can go to get a wireless connection?
W: There’s a cafe right across the street that I always go to during my breaks. You’ll need to order a drink, and then the waiter will give you the password.
(Text 8)
M: New-View Video, how can I help you today?
W: Hello. I’d like to sign up for your Internet video streaming service for my family. However, my son is living in France now. Can he use it there?
M: Sure, as long as you sign up for the Family Global package.
W: Good to hear. Oh, and the first month is a free trial, right?
M: That’s correct. You won’t be charged for the global service until next month, but we will still need payment details when you register.
W: All right. Let me give you my credit card information. Just a second.
(Text 9)
M: Jenny, thanks for telling me about the painting courses at the community center. I signed up for it yesterday.
W: You are welcome. So when will you take the courses?
M: On Tuesday and Thursday. Now I need to get some paintbrushes. Can you recommend a good art supplies store near here?
W: I like the one on Washington Street next to the history museum.
M: I think I’ve seen the commercial posters about the store before.
W: Actually, I just got an email about a sale the store’s having this week. You’ll get extra savings this week.
M: Hmm. Washington Street is kind of far from me but I think I can get there this weekend.
W: I’ll send you the email I got from them. With the special discount, it’s definitely worth the trip to the store.
M: I hope so. My class starts from next week. I need to buy the supplies this week.
(Text 10)

You need to pay for this trip by Friday. The cost is £ 6.50 for admission to the Ocean Park and £ 2.00 towards the cost of the coach. So, that means the amount you need is £ 8.50.
Now, it’s very important for you to bring your lunch. We will provide water and some fruit, so don’t worry about that. We’re going to eat on the beach in front of the Ocean Park, and there won’t be a chance to buy anything, so you must bring your own.
It’s going to be a really interesting trip. There are a few special events the day we are going. We’re going to watch the sharks being fed at 3:00 no, hold on, that’s at 2:30. There’s also a talk every morning at 11. The topics change every day and often they talk about fish, but on the day we’re going — that’s next Tuesday — it’s about penguins, so I’m sure you’ll all love that. We’ll give you some worksheets to do while you’re at the Ocean Park, but don’t worry, they’ll be quite easy.
