Begin this lesson with asking and answering. T: Boys and girls, you are leaving school in a few weeks. How do you feel about leaving your school, your teachers and your classmates? Ss: … T: There will be a school-leavers’ party at our school. How will you feel at the school-leavers’ party? Ss: … Step 2 Warming up Look at the picture. Answer the questions. (1) Ask the students to work in pairs. Look at the picture and talk about what they can see in the picture. (2) Ask the students to answer the questions. (3) Check the answers as a class. Answers: 1. It is the school-leavers’ party. 2. They are dancing and talking. Step 3 Listening Listen and answer the questions. (1) Before listening, ask the students to read the questions and make sure they understand the questions. (2) Play the recording for the students to listen to and get the answers. (3) Ask the students to compare their answers with a partner’s. (4) Check the answers as a class. Answers: 1. Betty is going to the school-leavers’ party. 2. She is going to help Tony put up the pictures, balloons and flags. 3. Betty refuses to eat because she is going to eat at the party. Step 4 Listening and Reading 1. Ask the students to listen to the recording. Find out who are talking and what they are talking about. 2. Get the students to work in groups. First, read the conversation. Then complete the notes together with the group members.

I’m going to miss you all. Tony: Yes, we’ll all miss each other. Lingling: Hey, Tony. You’ve hung international flags on the walls! They make the hall look wonderful. Tony: They look OK, don’t they? Listen to the music. It’s got a great beat! Betty: Pardon? Oh, yes, but it’s a bit noisy.
Lingling: Do you intend to stay in China for long, Tony? Tony: I hope so. And even if I go back to the UK, I’ll come back and visit you all. Lingling: What about you, Betty? Betty: I’ll finish my high school education here, but I want to go back to my home town one day. What are your plans, Daming? Daming: I want to become…an English teacher! Tony: Good for you! Come on! They wish for their friendship and their future. Step 5 Language points 1. Do you intend to stay in China for long? 你打算在中国待很长时间吗? (1) intend to do sth.表示“打算做某事”。 She intended to save money to buy a car.她打算攒钱买一辆汽车。 (2) for long相当于for a long time, 表示“很长时间”。 I have been here for long.我在这里很长时间了。 2. Let’s fetch something to eat. 咱们去取些吃的东西吧。 fetch 动词,意为“(去)拿来”。 Dad asked me to fetch him a newspaper.爸爸要求我去给他拿一份报纸。 辨析:fetch, take, bring 与 carry 这四个词都可以表示“拿;带”。其区别是: ① bring 表示“拿来;带来”, 指从别处拿过来; ② take 表示“拿走;带走”, 指从此处拿到别处去; ③ fetch表示“(去) 拿来”,包括一个往返的过程; ④ carry 不强调方向,表示“携带、背着、运送、搬扛”等意思。 3. Let’s raise our glasses. 让我们举杯。 raise 动词,意为“举起”。 If you know the answer, please raise your hand. 如果你知道答案,请举起你的手。 【拓展】 raise还有“使升高,筹款,召集,提出”等意思。 辨析:raise与rise ①raise是及物动词,说明主语要作用于其他事物,使物体达到某种高度。后面要加宾语,可用于被动语态; ②rise是不及物动词,说明主语自身移向较高位置,常指数字、数量或价值增加,增长上升等,后面不能加宾语, 无被动语态。 Step 6 Practice Complete the questions with the words in the box.
