    Grwing up, I remember my father as a silent, serius man — nt the srt f persn arund whm ne culd laugh. As a teenager arriving in America, knwing nthing, I wanted a father wh culd explain the human jurney.     Cnsuel De Mraes, a scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy in Zurich, nticed bumblebees making tiny bites in the leaves f their greenhuse plants. The insects didn't seem t be carrying ff the bits f leaves t their nests r eating them.
    Suppsing the bees were causing the plants t flwer, Cnsuel De Mraes and his team set up a series f experiments. They placed flwerless tmat plants and tw kinds f wrker bees in cages. The bees fed with enugh pllen(花粉) seldm damaged the plants, while the nes withut having pllen fr three days busily did s. Scientists then remved the plants after the bees made five t ten hles in their leaves. The small hles caused the tmat plants t flwer a mnth sner than usual.
