A city without cars would be very strange, right? But Venice is such a city.
Venice is in the northeast of Italy. It wasn’t built on land, like Beijing or Shanghai, but on more than 110 islands. Seawater is everywhere around the city.
Even so, travel isn’t difficult. The waterways have always been the best ways to get around. There are 117 waterways and more than 400 bridges that can guide you where you want to go. People in Venice move from place to place by boat. They like to enjoy the scenery and cool summer nights while taking boat trips. They can talk to other people as they go along.
Venice grew out of small islands in saltwater lakes when some Italians escaped from a war more than 1,500 years ago, and built homes there.
Water makes the city special, but it is also a big problem.
Once, people used too much underground water. This made the city get lower little by little. Now the city has gone down by 23 centimeters. Another problem is the rising seawater. The temperature has risen over the years. This has made the ice of the Arctic Ocean (北冰洋)
melt (融化).
Every year, high waters hit the city in autumn and winter. When a lot of water comes, more than half of the city is underwater.
Scientists are trying different ways to stop the city from getting even lower.

54.What seasons are dangerous for Venice because of high waters?
A.Summer and autumn. B.Autumn and winter. C.Summer and winter. D.Spring and winter.
55.The passage is mainly about .

Is the whale the world’s largest fish? No. It looks like a fish, but it is really a mammal (哺乳动物). Then what’s the world’s largest fish? It’s the whale shark (鲸鲨).
Although the whale shark is our biggest fish and lives in many oceans (海洋) around the world, few people have ever heard of it. Scientists have not been studying whale sharks for very long. Much more needs to be learned about them.
A whale shark is sometimes called a“gentle giant (温柔的巨人)”. It likes to be alone and doesn’t care a bit about divers or humans. The biggest whale shark weighed 24,250 pounds and was nearly 40 feet long. This makes it heavier and longer than a school bus.
Inside its huge mouth are great numbers of very small teeth. To count all of them, you’ll need to do some math. The whale shark’s teeth are arranged in rows. There are between 11 and 13 rows on each jaw (颚) and around 300 teeth in each row.
However, the whale shark rarely uses its teeth. It does not chew (咀嚼) or bite its food. Large amounts (大量) of water are pulled into its mouth and then pushed out through its gills (鳃). Then the whale shark can eat its food.
For a few months every year, a group of whale sharks come to Ningaloo Reef, off Western Australia. This gives scientists a wonderful chance to study the large fish. Whale sharks do live in other oceans of the world, but no one knows their population. It is possible that our biggest fish may need protecting. It is one of the reasons why scientists continue learning about these gentle giants.
56.Little is known about whale sharks because scientists ________.
A.are not interested in learning about them B.find them too difficult to catch
C.do not know the best places to find them D.have studied them for a short time

After nearly five years of construction (建设), the Beijing Daxing International Airport officially opened on Sept 25, 2019. Lying in (坐落于) the southern part of Beijing, it is the world’s largest airport. The Guardian listed it as one of the “seven wonders of the modern world”.
To improve passengers’ experience, the airport is built in the shape of a star, making sure the travelers will need to walk no more than 2,000 feet to reach any boarding gate. The distance between the central area and the farthest boarding gate is 600 meters. It takes only 8 minutes to walk between them.
It has the world’s largest flight terminal (航空站) in a single building. The building has an area of 700,000 square meters-the size of 98 soccer fields. It will eventually be able to hold more than 100 million passengers a year. That’s about the total population of the UK and Canada.
Apart from (除了) its design and size, the airport has attracted attention because it uses new technologies that make it smarter and more efficient. For example, airport baggage tracking (行李追踪) technology allows passengers to track their baggage in real time by using a mobile app.
Another new technology is that the airport will also use a robot-operated parking system. Drivers only need to park their cars in certain places. Robots will then lift the cars and carry them to an empty space. When collecting their vehicles, drivers simply need to scan (扫描) a parking ticket to find out where to collect their cars.
61.The Beijing Daxing International Airport ________.
A.was built within three years B.officially opened on Sept 25, 2019
C.lies in southwestern Beijing D.is the world’s first transportation hub

63.What can robots help passengers do in the airport?
A.Park their cars B.Collect their baggage.
C.Track their baggage. D.Scan a parking ticket.

Dear students,
School is our second home. It’s our duty to create civilized school. As students, we should do everything we can to achieve the dream. First of all, we should obey the schoolrules. For example, we’d better go to school on time. Don’t be late for class. Second, we ought to protect the environment. We are supposed to use both sides of paper. We ought to shut off the lights when we leave the classroom. Don’t waste water. We shouldn’t pick flowers or step on grass. Last but not least, it’s important for us to be polite to others. We should respect our teachers and help our classmates in need.
I hope our school will be more and more civilized and beautiful.
That’s all, Thank you!
