    1.【2022届广东金太阳大联考开学考试】阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文.
I had moved to Arizona about two weeks before the start of my junior year school, so not only was this a new school for me, but also a new state and I did not know anyone.
On the first day of school at lunch after getting my meal, I sat down at an empty table in the courtyard. As I began to eat I looked around at the other tables and saw a girl sitting alone, so I decided why not go sit with her. Anyway there was no reason for me to have a whole table to myself, and who knew maybe I could make a friend. I walked to the girl quickly to check whether my guess was right. When I stood before her, I said, "Excuse me, do you mind if I sit with you? " She was surprised at first, but then smiled and said "Sure!".
We chatted happily while eating. I told her I was a newcomer and I had no friend. I expressed my intention to make friends with her. She said because of her body size, no one wanted to get close to her, so she was glad to have a friend. We became close friends throughout the next two years. Towards the end of our senior year she told me that she'd been accepted to an out of state college and would be moving away after graduation. I was sad that I would miss her but at the same time was really happy for her.
She then shared with me something very moving. "Do you remember the first day of school when you came over and sat down with me during lunch? " she asked. "Of course! why do you ask? " I replied. She continued, "I want to let you know how special you are and that you make a difference." I wanted to know the reason for that.

    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】Paragraph 1:
Her tears rolled down from her eyes. She said a girl who was stronger than her always asked her for money but she didn't dare to tell the teachers. It had just broken her down. She was so depressed that day that she had made detailed plans on how she was going to kill herself after she got home. Just then I walked to her and treated her in a kind way, which let her feel the world was warmer than expected.
    Paragraph 2:
Hearing what she said, I was lost in thought. If I hadn't eaten in the courtyard, walked to her and chatted with her, she would have probably killed herself when she got home from school. It might be hard to believe that I saved her life. Then I said, “I have been wanting to say thanks to you because I made a friend in a new state that day,” Saying that, I hugged her, saying “Becoming your friend makes me happy.”

Bullying has been an exceeding issue over the years. Bullying is a major problem that we haven’t been able to stop. Every year more and more people become bullied at school and online. What is worrying us most is that the numbers of kids who are starting to become victims are increasing. Bullying doesn’t just affect the victims of bullying but harms everyone around it, including the bullies themselves.
Bullying has gone viral in the new communication era. People have been bullying over the internet on social media sites such as Facebook, twitter as well as social networking sites. People have also used our new technology of texting to harass people. Cyber bullying is what it's called when you bully someone over the internet. It is really not rare to see people bullied through the internet. People who are bullied feel great pressure and many of them committed suicide. Just in 2020, as many as 1,200 teens were reported to have acted suicide because of cyber bully.
Bullying in school is still in play as well. It may be the “old fashioned” and it is still just as effective! School teachers should be aware that it IS HAPPENING!!! Parents think that bullying in schools is just “a part of school” which is complete utter nonsense! When students get bullied they feel unsafe, scared and sad. Statistics show that on a daily average 160, 000 children miss school because they fear they will he bullied again.
Nobody likes a bully and being one may be a nightmare of the kids. It is high time that we attached great importance to it. Bystanders could really help stop bullying if they stood up right when it is happening! Stop bullying on the spot therefore it cant go anywhere or develop anymore, If a teacher or anyone sees the bullying, don’t be afraid! When adults respond quickly and consistently, they sent the message that it is not acceptable. When stopping bullying on spot you should intervene immediately, separate the kids involved and make sure everyone is safe. If we all take a stand against bullying and not ignore it or even encourage it, I believe that we can put an end to it!

In 2019, I rescued a skittish donkey (容易受惊的驴). Bo came from a nearby cattle ranch and now lives peacefully on my ranch in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, along with another donkey, three horses, and two dogs. But the key to Bo’s successful recovery from nervous rescue to happy ranch animal wasn’t anything I did. It was my grandson, Dylan.
When he was just shy of four years old, Dylan came with his parents to spend the Fourth of July with me on their way to Canada for a vacation. Bo kept his distance from the grown-ups, but he displayed an unusual fascination with Dylan. So we decided to introduce them. “Move slowly, keep your arms down, be quiet, and stoop down sometimes,” I told my grandson. Dylan cautiously approached Bo, step by step, holding a soft rubber comb. Bo held his ground, but he seemed interested with this little visitor. Dylan rubbed Bo’s shoulders and neck softly with the comb, removing remains of his thick winter coat.
It’s hard for an almost four-year-old to stay still for long, and motivation overcame self-control. Dylan made one quick move, and Bo jumped off with light steps. But Bo and Dylan were not ready to give up. Dylan approached again. To witness a preschooler learn to control himself in such a short time was amazing.

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】Possible version:
As we watched, true love developed between this once distrustful pony and a gentle boy. Over the next few days, Bo let Dylan throw his arms around his neck, pet his legs, hold his head in his hands, and pat his cheeks. And Dylan felt free to sit at Bo’s feet while Bo carefully sniffed his shirt collar and hair and rubbed Dylan’s back with his hairy chin. Just as Dylan had earned Bo’s trust, Bo showed attachment to Dylan. Thus, Bo seemed unable to tear himself away from Dylan when he and his parents had to depart.
They met again one week later as the family passed through on their return trip. It was almost dark, but Dylan and his dad paced to the far reaches of the ranch. Bo came to meet them enthusiastically. He hugged Dylan as if saying “long time no see” ---yes, a donkey can hug---without knocking him off balance. He is now a changed and trusting donkey. And Dylan is a miracle worker.

Willie Wilson would always live lite to the fullest. He was Mr. Popular at school, the star of his middle school basketball team, with dreams of going national team. At 13, his life changed. He couldn't see the words on the blackboard clearly in class. He couldn't read books without difficulty. Soon he hardly recognized his schoolmates in the halls.
His parents took him to the eye doctor. Willie could still slam-dunk like no one else, so they thought there was nothing serious to worry about. Maybe he just needed glasses. But it kept getting worse. By 15, he was almost completely blind.
Willie didn't handle the situation very well. He came home drunk and picked fights at school with anyone who dared to make fun of his blindness. "I was trying to show everyone that there was nothing wrong with me, ”he says. "To prove that I was still the same 'Thrill Willie Wilson'." That denial was blown away one Sunday when Willie heard news on TV. At 18, he gave his life to the Lord and read books in Braille, finding comfort in God's special love for those who are weak. He went to college and was a changed man.
His progress was stopped, though. He started to lose his hearing in the same way he had lost his eyesight. By 21, he was blind and deaf. He dropped out of school, stopped education and moved back home with his parents. This time, the doctors were able to tell the cause of his symptoms-a brain tumor.
Willie's world became doctors' appointments, hospitals and surgeries. His spare time was spent recalling in his childhood bedroom. His friends disappeared. He challenged himself to learn American Sign Language so he could communicate with others by feeling their hands. His parents and relatives found signing difficult, though. Instead, they drew letters into his hand. Willie grew frustrated by the lack of meaningful conversation.

However, an organization specially designed for the disabilities helped him regain his confidence and live a positive life.
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 His grandfather Willie Wilson, Sr., encouraged him not to lose hope. “You can’t see or hear as well as others,” he told Willie, “but you can do anything you set your mind to do.” But Willie didn’t listen to his grandfather’s words. He couldn’t even fold his own clothes or make himself a sandwich. “I just stayed in my bed,” he recalls. His faith in his dreams was fading, like the way his sight and hearing had.
However, an organization specially designed for the disabilities helped him regain his confidence and live a positive life. He moved into one of the 15 apartments at the organization. He finally found what he’d been so desperate to regain—his independence. These days, Willie is Mr. Popular once again. His signing is improving and he often talks with his friends with his sharp sense of humor. He cooks meals and does his own laundry. Willie says, “I’m able to take care of my own business. I’m living life in my own way now—Willie style!”

One Saturday morning, Jeremy woke up to a quiet house. Usually Mom was awake making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, but not today. At the sound of his mom coughing, Jeremy knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern, “Mom, are you ok?” “Honey,” Mom said weakly. “I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal (燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I’m going to stay in bed.”
Jeremy poured some cereal into a bowl and ate the pieces dry. Mom must feel very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Jeremy help? First, he wiped up the crumbs of cereal he left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it did when he woke up. But what else could he do? Jeremy thought. Saturday was the day when mom did laundry. Jeremy loved to watch the clothes spinning in the machine. That should be fun! He ran to his room to get the laundry basket, inside which there was his mother’s favorite white dress, among other clothes and a pair of red socks.
Jeremy opened the door to the washer and put the clothing inside. He had watched Mom do laundry lots of times, so he knew where to find the washing powder and how to pour it into the machine. Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button that said “START.” Jeremy looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in, and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy!
Jeremy watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was done. Jeremy opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Everything seemed clean, and Jeremy felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress.

Holding the neatly folded pink dress, Jeremy nervously knocked at his mom’s bedroom door again.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】One Possible Version:
But he remembered there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. “Where did it come from?” Jeremy wondered, reaching into the washer to take out more clothes. Then much to his astonishment, he pulled out two T-shirts, both in light pink. Realizing there was something wrong, Jeremy stood frozen, his heart sinking. While racking his brain for reasons, he caught sight of the red socks, and it suddenly occurred to him that they must be to blame for the accident. With no means of handling the situation, Jeremy was in such a panic that he even thought of hiding the dress from his mom. “That isn’t a positive approach to the problem,” he reminded himself. Finally, he decided to dry and fold the laundry before telling his mom everything.
Holding the neatly folded pink dress, Jeremy nervously knocked at his mom’s bedroom door again. After what seemed like ages, he came to the bedside, his head drooping. Sensing his son’s unease, his mother inquired with concern what was wrong. “Sorry mom, I shouldn’t have ruined your favorite dress.” Jeremy apologized. Stuttering out the mistake he had made, he was ready to get a good scolding for his wrongdoing. Realizing what’s going on, mom smiled understandingly at Jeremy, “Never mind, dear. I know you meant to help.” Then mom held the dress up before her and said in an approving tone, “You know what? I think it looks nice.” At this Jeremy beamed with relief, making a silent vow to be more careful in helping his mom out next time.

I am a proud mother of three children. My last little baby was born in the middle of August and her name is Aida.
Shortly after having Aida, my mother-in-law Ann showed me something she learned from her friend’s mother in an art class she attended weekly. She had a loom (织布机) and showed me how to knit (编织) a scarf. After I learned some skills, she gave me a small loom with her half done project.
I was looking after my sweet little baby at home, so I had some extra time to do something with my hands throughout the day. I enjoyed making the scarf so I bought a full loom set and tons of thread (线) and started to make woolen hats since it was winter.
I realized the homeless population in my town. really needed some more warm clothes. I started to give away my hats to the people asking for food outside the food shop down the street I live in.
My oldest son Siddhartha got involved in the project and made a hat as well. I found that there was a non-profit organization on the way home, which made masks for farm workers and was asking for winter warm clothing donations. I made a lot of woolen hats and gave them to the organization which would hand them out to farm workers.
Then I, together with my son, made woolen hats for everyone in my family as Christmas gifts, and gave woolen hats to all my neighbors I was close to. There was a new family that moved in down the street. I did not know them very well but why not break the ice with some handmade gifts? So I made hats for the mom and one-year-old baby. I knocked on the door and handed the gifts over and my neighbor was so happy to receive them. We talked happily and I learned she worked in a hospital.

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    【答案】One possible version:
The new neighbor had limited knitting skills so she asked me to create sweaters for kids in hospital together. I agreed to the act of kindness because I had always been doing such similar things. In my spare time from babysitting, I was making children’s sweaters. A month later, I had done 20. My new neighbor, my son and I sent our gifts to the hospital. We explained our purpose, handed out sweaters to the parents and wished their kids a quick recovery. They all thanked me for our gifts.
Later, my new neighbor wanted to learn my knitting skills to serve the elderly in the nursing home. She really admired my skills, and I was glad to teach her, so she bought a set of loom just like mine. She quickly mastered the skills. Together we made winter hats for the old people in the nursing home. We soon made enough hats and gave them away to the old people, who needed these things badly. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Julia Koch began what was only her second year as a first grade teacher in a virtual classroom at Edgewood Elementary School in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. Virtual learning was a challenge across the country. It was a new class mode for students to adapt to, especially when it came to the learning tools, but it helped the community grow closer. Many teachers there gave their personal phone numbers to students and their families in case they needed extra help. Sometimes, the exchange was literally life-changing.
One September afternoon a few weeks into the school year, Julia received a call from Cynthia Phillips, who was having technical difficulties with her granddaughter's tools for online learning. As Cynthia explained what the problems were, Julia sensed something was wrong with her. The two women had spoken numerous times before, but Julia had never heard the grandmother sound quite abnormal like this. Cynthia's words were so jumbled(混乱的)that Julia could barely understand her. Julia repeatedly asked, "What's happened to you? Are you OK?", and the grandmother uttered something brokenly.
Julia stood still, trying her best to identify the grandmother's physical condition by what she heard on the phone. Eventually, she made out that Cynthia had fallen four times that day. Julia suspected Cynthia might be having a stroke(中风)—she recognized the signs as her own father had suffered one before. She heard the word 'kids' and immediately became more concerned. Cynthia's two grandchildren, Emily and Susan, were only aged six and eight. They were probably home alone with her—she is their primary guardian. If something urgent happened, nobody in the home could handle it. Immediate actions were required. Without thinking twice, Julia quickly dialled the number of EMTs(emergency medical technicians).

【答案】Then, Julia dropped everything and drove to the family's home. When she pulled up less than ten minutes later, the doctors were treating Philips while the two girls, looking visibly shaken, were outside with a neighbor. The quick response from Julia saved Phillips’ life. She was rushed to the hospital in time to get treatment before chronic damage occurred.
While the grandmother was in hospital, Julia became much busier. Because the child's parents were out of town, they couldn’t come back due to blockade. Julia had to give the children online lessons and went to the hospital to take care of Philips. Thanks to an extended stay in hospital, Phillips regained most of the movement. On the day of leaving hospital, she said to Julia “If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t’ be here. I can't thank you enough.” With tears in eyes, Julia responded “Lady, this is what we should do. In my two years as a teacher, it was the most meaningful thing I had ever done. I am so glad to see you recover.” After that, Phillips gave her a warm hug.

Every once in a while, as FedEx driver Aubrey made her regular delivery slops in a neighborhood in rural southeastern Indiana, she’d come across a young boy playing basketball with a broken hoop (球筐).
The boy was so joyful playing basketball, which stuck with Aubrey and reminded her of the past days as a kid, when the sport was her safe harbor. She was bullied (欺负) for years in school, so basketball was a shelter away from her life as a kid. She had a neighbor install (安装) a basketball hoop for her across the street because he knew how much she loved it.
Aubrey just wouldn’t stop thinking about it and she really wanted to get the boy a hoop. Months later, Aubrey decided to get the 11-year-old boy, Elijah, a new hoop and had the hoop installed while the family wasn’t home. With her surprising gift she left a note: “Just want you to have the best hoop that will grow with you and all your friends,” she wrote, signing it as “just one of the FedEx drivers in the area.”
After installing the hoop and leaving the note, Aubrey didn’t return to the neighborhood for weeks. She thought the family wouldn’t realize it was her, but she was more than satisfied to know in her heart she probably “made the kid’s day.” It turned out she did a lot more than that.
Elijah’s mother read the note, and the moment she realized who it was from, she just immediately started to cry. Elijah’s family had gone through a difficult year, with the deaths of four family members and his father suffering a serious injury. Her gift changed their lives.

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 When Elijah came home and his mother showed it to him, he got really emotional. He stood there for several minutes staring at the hoop. The little boy was really shocked when he learned Aubrey got him a new hoop, which really touched him. He got teary-eyed but he’s an 11-year-old boy so he really didn’t want to admit he was crying. Elijah couldn’t wait to test out his new hoop. He couldn’t describe how much he loved the new hoop.
Weeks later, Aubrey came again, and Elijah was there waiting. Elijah ran to her and hugged her. “I am grateful you would do this for us. This has been a huge, huge thing for our family.” After giving her a card he made for her, Elijah invited Aubrey to play basketball. The two played basketball for nearly an hour until Aubrey had to go back to work. It was an act of kindness that led to a friendship and memories that will last a lifetime.

A merchant sent his son to learn the Secret of Happiness from the wisest of men. The young man wandered through the desert for forty days until he reached a beautiful castle at the top of a mountain. There lived the sage that the young man was looking for.
However, instead of finding a holy man, our hero entered a room and saw a great deal of activity; merchants coming and going, people chatting in the corners, a small orchestra playing sweet melodies, and there was a table laden with the most delectable dishes of that part of the world.
The wise man talked to everybody, and the young man had to wait for two hours until it was time for his audience. The Sage listened attentively to the reason for the boy’s visit, but told him that at that moment he did not have the time to explain to him the Secret of Happiness. He suggested that the young man take a stroll around his palace and come back in two hours’ time.
“However, I want to ask you a favor,” he added, handling the boy a teaspoon, in which he poured two drops of oil. “While you walk, carry this spoon and don’t let the oil spill.”
The young man began to climb up and down the palace staircases, always keeping his eyes fixed on the spoon. At the end of two hours he returned to the presence of the wise man.
“So,” asked the sage, “did you see the Persian tapestries hanging in my dining room? Did you see the garden that the Master of Gardeners took ten years to create? Did you notice the beautiful parchments in my library?”
Embarrassed, the young man confessed that he had seen nothing. His only concern was not to spill the drops of oil that the wise man had entrusted to him.
“So, go back and see the wonders of my world,” said the wise man. “You can’t trust a man if you don’t know his house.”

One winter Sunday, my little sister, Colleen, and I built the greatest snowman ever. We gave him a carrot nose, beautiful hat, cozy scarf and gloves. He was a masterpiece.
The next morning when looking outside, we smiled lovingly at him over our meal. We gave him a high-five (击掌) as we passed by on our way to school. A lot of kids went past our house, so he was the hot topic at our school that morning. It was our pride!
The day dragged on until finally we could rush home. But as our yard came into sight, we saw something wrong. The snowman was gone! We only found a broken stick here, a torn glove there and balls of snow everywhere. Worst of all, the snowman’s once-proud carrot nose lay limp(无力的) and half-eaten.
What had happened? We were both astonished and angry. But then, we were only kids, who wouldn’t have anything take away our happiness. Actually we knew only one thing: Our snowman would rise again. And so we rebuilt him.
The next day we came home to find another mess on the front lawn(草坪). For the rest of the week, the destruction was repeated daily. Each afternoon we’d return to find our snowman had fallen apart, and then we built again.
By Saturday morning, we had a plan. We borrowed a really big bucket(水桶) from Mom, filled it with water and left it outside. The next morning, it was frozen solid. We packed snow all around the ice block as the base(底座) of the snowman. Then we built the other parts of it once again. The trap was set. and we waited for the snowman bullies(破坏者) to come.

    【答案】One possible version:
Monday morning, hiding behind the window, we soon saw what we were waiting for. It turned out that there were three kids from our school. They sneaked up on our snowman and sneered.Taking their places on either side, they pulled back their legs to deliver powerful kicks. But the moment they hit the hard ice block of the base, sneers turned into shock, then agony and tears. They howled and cursed, gritting their teeth and stomping their feet.
Seeing their pained look, we couldn’t help laughing. They were too funny as they hopped away holding their damaged feet.We just couldn’t contain our happiness and excitement. With a hearty laugh, we came out of hiding and sprang into the yard from inside the house. “An eye for an eye! Justice done!” We yelled behind them. And that was the end of our problems with the snowman bullies. Ever since then, our snowman was kept guarded and intact until it happily melted into spring water and finally wove into our sweetest childhood memories.
