    Hello Talk
Hello Talk is similar to Lingbe as it connects you with native speakers to help improve your language skills. However, it adds a few extra functions that might interest you. You can view the information about users to find a match that interests you. Additionally, you can also send text and audio messages, and even do video calls with other people.
If you are a beginner, start from Duolingo and then use Hello English to take full command over the language. For fluent spoken English learners, you can try out Lingbe or Hello Talk.

As a freshman(大一新生)majoring in English,I had no marketable skills. A local organization once needed to have some advertisements made for an event.I considered it a good chance for me to learn new things, so I volunteered to make a few even though I had no design experience and my friends had doubts about my ability.I taught myself some of the principles of graphic design using free tools online, tried out some free software and got to work.
I've honed my skills on some other advertising projects since then and now I list advertising and marketing as skills on my job-search profile(简介).In addition to learning new skills,I have also gotten the chance to work on skills that I don't get to use in my paid jobs. Writing for The Daily Utah Chronicle doesn't require me to listen to students or advise them on their personal issues, but I get to practice these skills when I volunteer. My dream job requires these skills, and volunteering helps me to keep them fresh.
My volunteering experiences are specific to me, of course, but I believe that they will resonate(产生共鸣)in some way with most people who volunteer. A study conducted by the Center for Economic and Policy Research found that unemployed people who volunteered between 20-99 hours in a year were seven percent more likely to find a job a year later than non-volunteers. Linkedln(职场社交平台) now has an option to list volunteering experiences on our job profile, which indicates that employers are more interested than ever in what you do when you’re between jobs.
There are plenty of ways to take part in volunteering. Whatever your personal or professional interest is, there's an organization that would love to have your help. However much time you have, whatever skills you have, and whatever your reasons are,you should volunteer. It's good for your community and it's good for you.

    C. Preserved and shared D. Analyzed and rested
    21. Why does the author mention the study of the Center for Economic and Policy Research?
    A. To Show everyone is supposed to volunteer.
    B. To tell how many hours one should volunteer yearly.
    C. To explain why employers prefer people who have volunteered.
    D. To show volunteering can help one find work more easily.
    22. The author wrote the text mainly to ____
    A. encourage readers to volunteer B. describe her volunteer experience
    C. tell the way of living a colorful college life D. explain the importance of learning new skills

The world's elderly population is increasing. The number of old people, those who are aged 60 years or older,is expected to more than double in 2050 and is growing faster than the number of all younger age groups across the globe. This trend comes with an increasing demand for caregivers who are able to provide 24-hour care, not only at hospitals or nursing homes, but also at private homes and apartments.
Robotic assistants are expected to become increasingly marketable and reach 450.000 by 2045 because of the expected caregiver shortage in the United States. But Professor Ramses Martinez says,"Unfortunately, the outside hard structure(结构)of recent care-giving robots prevents them from getting along well with each other safely. After all, would you leave old people who are physically or mentally ill in the hands of a robot?"
Recent advances in material science have enabled the fabrication (制造)of robots with bodies that have the ability to reshape themselves when touched. But the complex design, fabrication, and control of soft robots recently hamper people from commercializing this technology and using them at home.
Martinez and the colleagues have developed a new design method that may enable the quick design and fabrication of soft robots using a 3D printer. The design process needs a few steps. First, a user makes a computer-aided design(CAD)file with the shape of the robot. The user then paints the CAD file to show which directions the different joints of the soft robot will move at. Finally a fast computer program takes a few seconds to change the CAD model into a 3D architected soft machine printed by a 3D printer. The architected soft robots move like humans, except that instead of muscles(肌肉), they rely on tiny motors that pull ropes tied to the ends of their hands and legs. They can be squeezed and pulled to more than 900 percent of their initial length."They can perform complex movements with ease, and this work makes a step forward toward the development of autonomous soft robots."Martinez says. The technology is patented. The researchers are looking for partners to test and commercialize their technology.
    23. What does the author mainly want to express in Paragraph 1?
    A. That more and more nursing people will be needed!
    B. That more hospitals will be built in the future.
    C. That the burden on young people will increase greatly.
    D. That private homes will be more suitable for the old.
    24. What can be inferred from Professor Ramses Martinez's words?
    A. Robots have played a big role in humans' life.
    B. Robotic assistants' characteristics have changed a lot.
    C. Robots don't know how to communicate with each other.
    D. Present care-giving robots aren't very suitable for the old.
    25. What's the main idea of Paragraph 4?
    A. The procedure for designing the soft robots.
    B. The importance of CAD files to the soft robots.
    C. The steps of the soft robots to finish some work.
D.The characteristics and application of the soft robots.
    26. What advantage do the architected soft robots have over the conventional ones?
    A. Being much cheaper. B. Being more solid.
    C. Being much lighter in weight. D. Being more flexible in their movements.
    D
Kate Bowler had it all. She was married in her 20s, had a baby and landed her dream job teaching at Duke Divinity School in her 30s. Then she was told at age 35, when her son had just turned 1 year old, that she had incurable cancer.
Bowler is receiving her cancer treatment, and hopefully it will keep her cancer at bay, but she is not sure if she has months or even weeks left. Bowler has generously shared her insights in a recent essay in The New York Times. She wrote that each New Year most of us do with a"checklist of resolutions"in hand, but those are just things we plan to do in the weeks or months to come. Cancer has taught her to make the most of whatever time she has left rather than keep thinking about the past or future.
When I first worked with terminal cancer patients in my early 20s,as part of my internship(实习)training, I took it for granted that I could reward myself with a nice meal after work. When caring for patients, most of whom were confined(限制)to their beds all day and many of whom found it hard to keep food down,I learned to stop taking such simple pleasures for granted.
It is always believed that love is more powerful than suffering or death. and Bowler's focus on her husband and son even in the shadow of suffering and death witnesses powerfully to that truth. She begged her sister-in-law to tell her husband to remarry if she died because she didn't want her death to end his life as well. Bowler writes,"Life is so beautiful.Life is so hard." She explained both sides of that when she noticed an elderly gentleman lovingly adjusting his wife's hair as she received her treatment in the hospital.
    27. What was Bowler's life like before the age of35?
    A. satisfying B. uncertain C. extraordinary D. hard
    28. What does the underlined phrase"at bay"in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Beyond reach B. Under control C. On guard D. In sight.
    29. What made the author start to value the simple pleasures of life?
    A. The eagerness for freedom B. The training in cancer treatment
    C. The suffering of terminal cancer patients D. The difficulty in looking after cancer patients
    30. What impressed Bowler during her treatment in the hospital?
    A. The support from family matters a lot during difficulties.
B.Life also contains beauty in spite of the hardships.
    C. The pain of cancer patients is unbearable
D.Life is full of uncertainty and difficulty.

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项两项为多余选项。
In an age where health and well-being is stressed as part of a happy life, avoiding weight gain may be of high importance to many people. 31 You can make a few basic lifestyle decisions to help lower the chances of gaining weight.
Weight loss or gain is not a mystical, confusing process. 32 An average adult will burn between 1,500 and 2,000 calories per day when going about daily activities. Once it is established how many calories a person is likely to burn every day, avoiding weight gain becomes a simple matter of not consuming more than what is burned.
33 Most typical supermarkets are set up so that produce, dairy, and bread are placed against the walls. By skipping the middle aisle that is occupied by frozen, processed and snack foods, a smart shopper can knock off a considerable amount of calories. If unhealthy food isn't in the house,a weight-conscious person won't eat it.
Avoiding gaining weight by doing exercise sounds like a good plan, but many people exercise inefficiently because of busy lives."Weekend Warriors" attempt to make up for not exercising during the week with large amounts of sessions on weekends. However, this style of exercise makes injury more likely. 34
Thirty minutes' focused exercise every day will likely do more good than large amounts of workouts per week. 35 It can also be walking to the store, running around with the kids, swimming on hot days, and biking at the beach.
    A. Drink about four large glasses of water per day.
    B. Lifting weights while watching TV is also a kind of exercise.
    C. Luckily, a variety of resources exist to help keep a healthy weight.
    D. Shopping around the edges of grocery stores helps prevent weight gain.
    E. Besides, it can lead to exhaustion, and overeating due to a drop in blood Sugar.
    F. You've probably wondered at one time.or another how much you should weigh.
    G. Instead, it is a simple calculation of calories eaten compared to calories

What Can We Do for Our Community?
Hello, everyone. It’s nice to speak about what we can do for our community, and I think each of us can do something.
The first thing we can do is to make our community a more harmonious one. Every one of us should show respect and kindness to others, always ready to give a helping hand. We can also form a good habit of putting the rubbish in the trashcan. The second thing we can do is to protect the facilities in our community. When we woke out, we should never forget to use the gym equipment correctly and gently. We should also cherish every tree and every blade of grass in the community while taking a walk.
If everyone does one thing for our community, I believe we will turn it into a better place to live in.
    Thank you for listening!

M:Yes, madam? What can I do for you?
W:I have a problem with this coffee maker. I've only used it three times and now it won't work at all.
M:I'd be happy to exchange it for you.
W:No, thank you. I just want my money back, please. I don't want the coffee maker any more.
M:Of course. Here's your money. And I'm really sorry about all this.
W:That's OK. And thank you for your help.
    Text 9
M:May, what do you usually have for breakfast in America?
W:I usually have bread, fried eggs and a bowl of porridge for breakfast. What about you, Paul?
M:I like to have ham and eggs, bread and butter, cereal and orange juice, a normal English breakfast.
W:More and more young couples in China have come to like the western breakfast. They think it's very convenient and good for health.
M:Mm, in fact, having western food for breakfast is actually good for one's health.
