As a freshman（大一新生）majoring in English，I had no marketable skills. A local organization once needed to have some advertisements made for an event.I considered it a good chance for me to learn new things, so I volunteered to make a few even though I had no design experience and my friends had doubts about my ability.I taught myself some of the principles of graphic design using free tools online, tried out some free software and got to work.
I've honed my skills on some other advertising projects since then and now I list advertising and marketing as skills on my job-search profile（简介）.In addition to learning new skills,I have also gotten the chance to work on skills that I don't get to use in my paid jobs. Writing for The Daily Utah Chronicle doesn't require me to listen to students or advise them on their personal issues, but I get to practice these skills when I volunteer. My dream job requires these skills, and volunteering helps me to keep them fresh.
My volunteering experiences are specific to me, of course, but I believe that they will resonate(产生共鸣）in some way with most people who volunteer. A study conducted by the Center for Economic and Policy Research found that unemployed people who volunteered between 20-99 hours in a year were seven percent more likely to find a job a year later than non-volunteers. Martinez and the colleagues have developed a new design method that may enable the quick design and fabrication of soft robots using a 3D printer. The design process needs a few steps. First, a user makes a computer-aided design(CAD)file with the shape of the robot.The user then paints the CAD file to show which directions the different joints of the soft robot will move at. Finally a fast computer program takes a few seconds to change the CAD model into a 3D architected soft machine printed by a 3D printer. Kate Bowler had it all. She was married in her 20s, had a baby and landed her dream job teaching at Duke Divinity School in her 30s. Then she was told at age 35, when her son had just turned 1 year old, that she had incurable cancer.

The first thing we can do is to make our community a more harmonious one. Every one of us should show respect and kindness to others, always ready to give a helping hand.
