关系词常有三个作用：1、引导定语从句 2、代替先行词 3、在定语从句中担当一个成分
关系代词: that, which, wh, whm, whse关系副词: when, where, why
关系代词1.wh指人，在从句中作主语/宾语The bys wh are playing ftball are frm Class One.2. whm指人，在定语从句中充当宾语，常可省略。Mr. Liu is the persn (whm) yu talked abut.
3. which指物，在定语从句中作主语或宾语，作宾语时可省略。Ftball is a game which is liked by mst bys. This is the pen (which) he bught yesterday.
4. that指人时，相当于wh或者whm； 指物时，相当于which。 在定语从句中作主语或宾语 作宾语时可省略。 The peple that/wh cme t visit the city are all here. Where is the man that/whm I saw this mrning?
5. whse通常指人，也可指物，在定语从句中作定语 He has a friend whse father is a dctr.
三、定语从句中只能使用关系词that不能使用which的情况主要有：1. 当先行词是不定代词时,如:all ,few, little, much, every, smething, anything, everything等2. 当先行词被不定代词little, few, n, any等或被 the nly, the very, the same等修饰时等
3. 当先行词被序数词或形容词最高级修饰时4. 先行词既有人又有物时5. 在疑问词which开头的句子中
四、定语从句中只能用关系词which不能用that的情况：1.引导非限制性定语从句（主句和从句之间用逗号隔开）The meeting, which was held in ur schl, was very successful.2.关系代词之前有介词This is the pencil with which I draw many great pictures.
