M:Are there train tickets to London on September 1st? I’d like two tickets for the firstclass cabin.
W:Let me check. Yes, there are.
    (Text 2)
M:I’ll leave for London next Monday, and then I’ll fly to Boston from there. Do you have any vacation plans, Michelle?
W:Mike and I will travel to Beijing to see my parents for the Spring Festival.
    (Text 3)
W:Have you seen the news on TV that there’s been serious flooding in the South?
M:Yes, I have. My friends and I have got to cancel our travel plans.
W:What a pity! I know you’ve been looking forward to it for months.
    (Text 4)
W:Are you ready to place your order?
M:I haven’t decided yet. Can you give me some advice?
W:Sure! Our special today is the fried fish with rice.
M:The fish sounds nice. Can I get that with a side salad?
    (Text 5)
W:Is the River Thames still polluted?
M:It certainly used to be. I remember it used to smell awful, and if you fell in, you had to be taken to hospital.
    W:That sounds terrible!
M:But in the 1960s, they cleaned it up, and in fact it’s now one of the cleanest city rivers in the UK.
    (Text 6)
    W:Hello, Jack! It’s Emily.
M:Hi, Emily! How has your dress designing been going in London?
W:Pretty good. And how was your football game in Paris?
M:It was great. We won — and I was named the best player of the game.
    W:Congratulations! You’re always the best.
M:Thanks. Oh, did I tell you about my trip to London?
    W:Yes. When are you coming?
M:I will be arriving at around 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
W:Oh, dear. I can’t meet you at the airport because I have an appointment with my son’s headmaster then, but I can ask my brother Bob to pick you up.
    M:That’s good. Thanks a lot!
    (Text 7)
W:I am sorry, but I cannot stay for the rest of class today.
M:Why do you need to leave early?
    W:I don’t feel so good.
M:What seems to be the matter?
W:I feel sick to my stomach.
M:Perhaps you should get checked out at the Student Health Center before you go home.
W:I have some medicine at home that I could take.
M:Would you like me to give you a ride, or would you like someone to go with you?
W:Thank you, but the bus stop is right beside my house.
M:I hope that you feel better soon. Email me if you have any questions. Make sure you check the website for your homework.
    (Text 8)
M:Do you realize what time it is? I’ve already finished a whole movie.
W:I’m sorry; I didn’t realize that it was so late. We were enjoying ourselves at the party and ... and I forgot the time.
M:Do you honestly believe that is a good excuse?
W:Not really. I’m telling the truth. I think most of my friends got home late tonight.
M:Haven’t I asked you to call if you’re going to be home late?
W:Yeah, you did. I just forgot to call.
M:That’s beside the point. You still should have called.
    W:You’re right. I’m sorry.
M:Next time you come in late without calling, don’t even bother coming home.
W:You would really make me spend the night outside?
M:Yes. Maybe then you’ll figure out how to follow the rules.
    W:Dad, I promise this won’t happen again.
    (Text 9)
W:Welcome to England, and I hope your visit here will be a pleasant one. I’d like to draw your attention to a few of our laws.
    M:Thanks.
W:UK drinking law forbids people under the age of 18 from buying alcohol, as well as friends from buying it for them.
M:Ah, yes. It’s the same in our country. What about smoking?
W:It is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you’re under 16.
M:That’s a good law. Most countries have many teens that smoke.
W:Yes, it has actually become a serious social problem for us here. Okay, the biggest thing you’ll need to watch out for is our traffic, as it’s quite different from that in other countries. You should be careful when crossing the road, as the traffic moves on the left side of the road here. Always use the crossing for walking.
    M:Yes, it’s really unique!
W:And don’t take any chances when crossing the road. I think the last thing you should be aware of is littering. It is against the law to throw away rubbish on the streets or in other public places. Whenever you have something to throw away, just put it in one of the litter bins along the road, or just put it in your pocket and throw it away at home.
M:Thanks so much for telling me all this.
    (Text 10)
Hello, everyone. Today, I’m going to share with you a little about the kinds of foods that English people eat.
A traditional English breakfast consists of eggs, fried bread, mushrooms, bacon, tomatoes and baked beans, but most English people today prefer a breakfast of hot or cold grain, juice, and a warm drink of either tea or coffee.
The English lunch is normally eaten between 12:00 noon and 1:30 pm, and most often consists of a sandwich. Along with the sandwich, an English person might have a bag of potato chips, fruit or biscuits. A glass of beer might also be added to lunch if the person eats in one of the many pubs; otherwise, a tea or coffee. Fish and chips, often wrapped in a piece of paper, are still a favorite among English diners.
The afternoon tea is simply a time to snack on a bag of potato chips or a few biscuits, and drink a quick cup of tea or coffee. Tiny cakes and sweets are often eaten as well. Tea is also an oldfashioned term for dinner; some English people still say “tea” when they mean the last main meal of the day.

When kids ask me who my favorite hero is, my answer is always the same: my grandfather.
Grandpa began his military career in the Navy in 1939. He joined with his son, Paul. The Department of the Navy kept them fairly close together, allowing them to be in port at the same time so they could visit and spend time together. They were both in port in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on 7 December, 1941. My Uncle Paul was among the 1,177 who were aboard the U.S.S. Arizona.
After WWⅡ, Grandpa left the Navy and enlisted in the Army, where he spent the remainder of his career. His duty stations included Alaska, France, Italy, Germany, and the Philippines. When the time came, he worked as a Medic, saving the lives of many young soldiers.
Various European duty stations filled the years between Korea and Vietnam for Grandpa. My grandmother spent her time learning local recipes and culture while they traveled Europe’s lush (酒) countryside; something I’m grateful she passed on to me.
Vietnam brought a new set of orders for Grandpa and a new set of worries for Grandma. But he went and she worried. Grandpa was severely wounded in the early days of the war, a gunshot wound to the chest that grazed (擦破) his heart. He spent a few weeks in an Army hospital in Germany before being flown back to the States and being admitted to Walter Reed Hospital.
My grandfather was never a man to cool his heels for very long, however, and soon found a job at ICI Americas. Grandpa retired from ICI in 1988, though, to allow another family member to seek employment there as company policy didn’t allow family members to work in the same plant.
So on Memorial Day, I ask you to remember all of our nation’s heroes: the ones who have died for us,; the ones who came back wounded, as well as the ones who came back healthy — because they are all the greatest heroes.

Reducing, reusing, and recycling is a way of life in Sweden.Recycling is required by law and garbage is sorted at home before it goes to a recycling center.Recyclables are sorted into seven categories and recycling stations are within just 300 meters of all residential areas.“Recycling almost everything is a must in Sweden now.It actually feels very uncomfortable when you visit another country and can’t find easy ways to recycle,” said Owen Gaffney, an expert at Stockholm Resilience Centre and Future Earth.
But not all of its garbage is recycled.Sweden uses alternatives that include incinerating garbage to make electricity instead of using fossil fuels (化石燃料) to heat 1.2 million homes.About half of household garbage is sent to one of the 33 wastetoheat plants.Sweden is importing garbage from other countries to keep these plants running.Sweden is also a world leader in turning food waste into ecofriendly biogas. It has made food waste collection compulsory beginning in 2021.There is a food waste biogas plant, which allows biogas to be used to run public buses and to heat apartment buildings.
Sweden now wants to deal with those remaining items that cannot be recycled by using a circular (循环论证的) economy approach. It means that products can be reused and only recycled when absolutely necessary. The Swedish government formed an advisory group to find a way of making this part of its environmental policy.
This will not work effectively unless people are taught to change their behaviour. Now the government is reforming its tax code so that people could get cheaper repairs or buy used things. The large Swedish clothing retailer (零售商) H&M operates a recycling program that gives customers discounts when they bring back old clothing.
Sweden is fighting climate change by doing all the right stuff.Waste recycling and the plans to switch to a circular economy will go a long way in reducing its carbon footprint and will help stop global warming.

When people think of working animals, what often comes to mind are dogs that watch sheep, horses that work on farms and animals that perform in movies. But there are lots of other jobs animals have had over the years.
Dogs have greater sense of smell than humans. This made dogs the traditional hunting partners, making their owners able to follow foxes and other animals.Police departments have taken advantage of this skill to help find missing people and escaped criminals.Recently, dogs have been trained to find drugs and explosives (爆炸物).
The honeyguide lives in the southeast African nation of Mozambique. It has developed a winwin relationship with a group called the Yao. If a Yao member makes a certain sound, the honeyguide will fly from tree to tree directing him to a hidden bee box.Once the box is discovered, the person breaks open the box for honey, and the honeyguide could enjoy the honey, too.
Ferrets (雪貂) are cute and furry animals that are from 1.5 to 4 pounds.People have taken advantage of a ferret’s natural ability to run through tiny space.Ferrets wear a special harness (甲胄) that makes them able to pull a string through hundreds of feet of tiny space, which is then used to pull computer wires through tiny space.
Baby flies are called maggots. The job of a maggot is to eat and grow until it turns into a fly. This is similar to how a caterpillar eats and grows until it becomes a butterfly. However, there is a big difference between these insects.Caterpillars feed on plants, while maggots eat meat.Actually, they only enjoy bad meat.Maggots are used with patients who get serious infections that can’t be treated with antibiotics (抗生素).The maggots are used to the infected area for a number of days. They eat the dead part but leave the living part alone, thereby helping patients recover from the infection.

Universities are doing everything they can to become a green campus. But there are also items students can do to make your campus more ecofriendly.
    ·Recycle everything, especially paper!

    · 39

Tailored for fans of Chinese handicrafts, the exhibition mainly consists of three parts, namely the introduction of the porcelain’s history, the display of various exquisite procelains from different periods, and the DIY session, where visitors can have a taste of traditional Chinese culture firsthand.

    第二节(满分25分)
    阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. When they were turning a corner, Robert cried out“A fight! Let’s go and see ...”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go quietly home and not meddle with (插手) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don’t want them to worry about me.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn’t want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn’t angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him, and that he ought to be afraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored (忽略) the other boys’ laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn’t invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn’t go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式作答。
It seemed as if Robert would be dying.

    Thus, Robert’s life was saved.

    参考范文:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at the moment, Henry happened to be passing by.Hearing the screams, Henry ran to the riverside, threw off his clothes and jumped into the water without hesitation. He reached Robert just as he was sinking the last time.By great effort, and with much danger to himself, he brought Robert to the shore.
Thus, Robert’s life was saved.Robert and his new friends were ashamed at having called Henry a coward. They realised that Henry had true courage. They said sorry to Henry for their rude behaviour and asked for his forgiveness.Henry forgave them happily. He and Robert were friends again and they went home together as usual. From this, Robert learned what true courage was: never be afraid to do good, but always fear to do evil.
