Fr a lng time, peple have been burying their garbage. Unfrtunately, there is less and less empty land that can be used as garbage places in ur planet tday, (18) yet mre and mre garbage is being prduced each year.
Hw shuld we manage ur garbage? D we have enugh energy surces t meet ur future energy needs? These are tw f the mst imprtant questins in the mdern wrld, and many peple are trying t find the answers. Sme peple think that we might be able t slve bth prblems at the same time. They suggest that garbage shuld be used as an energy surce. (19) Fr example, sme cities in the United States have been burning garbage t create fuel fr years. But studies have shwn that it is nt a gd idea. Burning garbage fr energy causes many serius prblems. Garbage that burns easily, such as plastics and paper, must be separated frm metals, glass, and ther materials that d nt burn easily. This separatin prcess is very cstly, therefre nt being dne in mst places. Anther huge prblem with burning garbage is air pllutin. (20)
