How do you go from losing your sight as a kid to seeing with sound as the“real-life Bat Man(现实生活中的蝙蝠人) ”? Daniel Kish was born in March, 1966, in Montebello, California. He lost one eye and then the other by the age of 13 months.
Soon after, however, he started to do an amazing thing. He learned to make clicks with his tongue to help him move around. Kish now moves around using sonar(声呐) . He is so good at it that he can ride a bicycle by himself on public roads. And he started the organization World Access for the Blind(WAFTB) in 2000, teaching others how to use sonar. In the interview with Nathion Geographic, he explains how the sonar works.
“When I make a click sound, it produces sound waves. These waves reflect off surfaces all around and return to my ears. My brain then deals with the sound and turns it into pictures in my mind. Each click is like a camera flash, which helps me make a 3-D picture of my surroundings for hundreds of feet. It's like having a conservation with the environment.”
Kish feels it is exciting to ride a bike using sonar, although he needs to click twice a second, much more than he usually does. “It may sound a bit dangerous to move around the world in this way,”he says. “But most people in the world live in fear of things that they imagine. love hiking and mountain-biking. I go almost everywhere. And I've never had an accident and hurt myself.”
He is happy to be able to help more blind children to improve their life. “We've served over 10, 000 students in nearly 40 countries, ”he tells the reporter. “Many students are surprised how quickly results come. Seeing isn't in the eyes. It's in the mind.”

Microplastics(微塑料) have entered seemingly every part of the planet today, including
rain over the Rocky Mountains. Recently German scientists have even found them in Arctic
(北极) snow.
Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters(毫米) . Sadly, the scientists found 1,800 pieces of microplastic per liter of snow.
Scientists have been puzzling over how this flood of pollution makes its way to the Arctic?A new study from Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research finds that the microplastic in the snow comes from the air. They fall off and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall in the Arctic as snow.
Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in. An even higher amount of microplastic was found in the snow around cities.
Are they bad for us? Scientists can not answer this question for now, according to the World Health Organization. We do know that our bodies can not take in “large” pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for along time, which can be bad for our health. What's more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute(贡献) to lung cancer risk.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. The research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, doing harm to ecosystems (生态系统) along the way. They start in our wastewater, when we wash clothes with plastic fibers(纤维) . The wastewater then flows into rivers and out to sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we're eating the plastic as well.
51.What have German scientists discovered about the Arctic?
A.Different kinds of trash have been found there.
B.It has been polluted by microplastics.
C.It remains the last clean place left on Earth.
D.1,800 pieces of microplastic were found there.
52.What does Paragraph 3 tell us?
A.Where the microplastic comes from.
B.What the Arctic snow is like.
C.How to cut down on microplastics in the Arctic.
D.How dangerous micro plastics are.
53.Which is the right order of the following events?
a.Microplastics flow over along way and into oceans.
b.People then have microplastics in their bodies by eating sea animals.
c.The wastewater with micro plastics flows into rivers.

A.a-b-c-d-e B.a-c-d-b-e C.c-b-e-d-a D.d-c-a-e-b

I was now in my twenty- eighth year on the island, and I did not want to be there for
71 a year. We worked 72 h to get the corn in, and to make a lot of bread. We had dried fruit and salted meat, and big pots to keep water in. One evening, Friday went out to look for a turtle for meat and eggs. But in less than an hour he was back, and he looked very afraid.
“Master! Master!” he cried. “There’s a great ship near the island, and men are coming to the shore in a boat!”
I jumped up and ran with him down to the shore To my great 73 s , I saw that it was a British ship! But why was it here? British ships never came this way. 74 P they were pirates! “Don’t let them see you, Friday!” I called. “We’ll hide in the trees and watch.”
There were eleven men in the boat, but three of them were prisoners. Their arms were tied with rope, but their legs were free and they could walk. The other sailors pushed the three prisoners up the beach, laughing, shouting and hitting them. Then some of them 75s down on the sand and began to drink. Others walked away to look at the island, and two men stayed to watch the boat, The three prisoners walked slowly along the beach and sat down under a tree, not far from us. They looked very unhappy.
Very quietly, I came up behind them 76 t the trees and called out to them in English.
“Don’t be afraid,” I said. “I’m an Englishman. Perhaps I can help you.”
The three men turned and looked at me. They did not answer at once 77 b they were too surprised. Perhaps they thought I was a wild man myself, in my strange home made clothes of animals’ skins, and with my long hair and beard.
Then the oldest man spoke. “I am the captain of that ship,” he said. “If you help me get my ship back, I will take you back to 78 E .”
Then the fight began, We shot the two men at the boat, and the captain shot another man. This man, Tom Smith, was the worst of them all and he began the mutiny on the ship. We took others as prisoners. Then Friday and I stayed to watch them, while the captain and his men went back to fight for the ship.
All night we listened to the sound of guns and shouting, but in the morning when the Sun came up, the captain was master of his ship again. I went down to the shore to meet him.
“My dear friend,” he cried, “there’s your ship! I’ll take you to the ends of the world in it!”
I put my arms round him, and we laughed and cried 79 t , How happy I was to leave the island!
My good friend Friday came with me, of course. And so, on the nineteenth of December, 1686—after twenty-eight years, two months and nineteen days—I said goodbye to my 80
i and sailed home to England.

三、录音中有一段对话,听对话两遍后,从每小题A、B、C中选出能回答所给问题的正确答案。
W: Coach Miller, thanks for meeting with me. May I ask you some questions?
M: Yes. I have about ten minutes now.
W: I don’t want to talk about the game today. I want to talk about coaching. Did you want to be a university football coach?
M: First I wanted to be a professional football player.
W: Did you play professional football?
M: I played for two years.
W: What happened?
M: I broke my leg.
W: In a football game?
M: No, in an accident. I played football for ten years. I never had an accident. I fell off a tree.
W: A tree?
M: I was playing with my children. I went up the tree to get a ball. I fell off the tree and broke my leg in three places.
W: And no more football.
M: That’s right. I wanted to play but my leg wasn’t good.
W: Now you’re a coach. Do you like coaching?
M: Very much. I wanted to play football. But I like coaching very much.
W: You played professional football. You coach university football. Did you want to coach professional football?
M: No. I wanted to work with younger men. At first I wanted to coach high school football. I like to work with young men and women.
W: You wanted to coach high school, but you are coaching university men now.
M: That’s right. The university wanted me. They asked me.
W: What do you want to see this year?
M: I want to see my men grow. I want them to learn and become better.
W: Thank you, Coach Miller. Wish you great success.
M: Thank you. Bye bye.

四、听力填表
录音中有一篇短文,听短文两遍后,根据所听内容完成下面的表格。
In cities, there are many buses going around the city, and they cost less than one dollar to take. So many people like to take a bus to school or to work. But when the old people get on the bus, are you willing to give your seat to them? Some people don’t like to help the old. They just close their eyes, listen to music without looking at them. Some turn their faces to look out of the windows. Even when the bus driver keeps asking people to help the old, they just sit on the seats. However, we should help each other because everyone needs other’s help. Next time, please be polite to help the person who needs help on the bus. You can ask the old people to get on or to get off the bus before you or to give your seats to the people with children. Then all the people will live a happy life.
听力测试到此结束。请同学们继续做其他试题。
