1. Warming up by talking abut Greek Gds and Gddesses
We have cme t page 14. Lk at the pictures. They are Greek Gds and Gddesses. Is there anybdy wh can tell us smething abut Greek Gds and Gddesses.
2. Reading and answering
Read the text and answer the fllwing questins:
A. What was Atlanta’s prblem?
B. What were Atlanta’s rules?
C. What was Hippmenes’ amazement?
D. What made Hippmenes change his mind?
E. Whm did Hippmenes turn t fr help?
F. Can yu guess what the ending was?
3. Reading and underlining
Next yu are t read and underline all the useful expressins r cllcatins in the passage. Cpy them t yur ntebk after class as hmewrk.
4. Listening and ding tasks
Fr listening turn t page 15 and be ready t d exercises 3, 4 and 5.
First read the questins carefully and imagine what is the listening abut.
5. Acting ut a text play
Next we are ging t put the text A STORY OF ATLANTA n stage. Yu knw there are fur charactrs in the stry. Wh wuld like t be them? Wh will be Alanta’s father, the ld king? Wh will be the Gddess f Lve?
Ok. Li Li, yu are the Greek princess. Zhang Qiang, yu are the brave yung man Hippmenes. Lucy, yu are the Gddess f Lve. Zhu Gang, yu are the princess’s father. The rest f class, please prepare it in grups f fur. Then act yur play befre class.
6. Interviewing peple
Nw, class, let’s g n t carry ut a survey f the interests in the class and write dwn the names f the classmates wh have the same interests. Ask such questins as:

Peple: the ld king (K), the princess (A), the yung man (H), the Gddess f lve (L).
F: My dear daughter, yu see hw beautiful the spring is! Yu are just like the spring flwers. Why dn’t yu marry? S many yung kings and princess want t marry yu, and they are all s rich, smart and nice.
A: Oh, dear father. I have prmised that I will nly be married t a man wh can run faster than me. I will run against him. If he cannt run as fast as me, he will be killed. N ne will be pardned.
F: But, my dear daughter. N man has wn yu. They all sent themselves t death. When will yu get married?
A: I wn’t marry unless I am allwed t run in the Olympic Games. (Hippmenes is allwed t cme in)
H: Oh, my kindest king and my prettiest princess!
I’ll marry the princess. I’ll cmpete with yu.
A: D yu knw the rules?
H: Yes, princess!
F: Oh, yung man! G away! Yu can’t win her. Yu are nly lsing yur life!
H: N, I want a try!
F: Flish thing! G away! Dn’t g t die! (Hippmenes was pushed away and felt sad, crying. The Gddess f Lve is watching everything abve him in the sky and pities him)
L: Oh, yung man, what’s the matter? Why are yu s sad?
H: Oh, my Gddess, can yu help me? Can yu help me t win the princess and marry her?
L: Ok, yung man. D yu really want t marry her and lve her?
H: Of curse. She is s beautiful.
L: Ok, it is easy. Take these three glden apples.
Thrw apples in frnt f Atlanta when she is running past and she will be relaxed. When she stps t pick it up, yu will be able t run n and win.
H: Oh, thank yu, my Gddess!
(Hippmenes returns t the palace)
K: Well, yung man, why are yu here again?
H: My kindest king. I want t marry her and run against her!
K: Well, yung man. I repeat. Dn’t be silly! G away!
H: N. I lve her. I will marry her - r die!
Why d yu like this sprt / music / cllectin? When d yu begin t like it? What’s enjyable
abut the hbby? What have yu learned frm the hbby?
Swimming is my favrite sprt. I like it because it can bring me much fan. The prcess f learning swimming is very interesting. Yu can try different ways f swimming, such as breakstrke and backstrke. Yu can swim at any time f the year if yu like. In ht summer, if yu jump int the river r the sea t have a swim, yu’ll feel cl and cmfrtable. Even in cld winter, yu can swim if yu are brave enugh. It’s a healthy sprt and it can build up yur bdy. If yu are a beginner, yu must be careful.
Yu’ll better nt swim alne and bring life buy with yu in case f danger. If yu want t be a gd swimmer, yu must have a lt f practice and have great determinatin.
