As humanity has gt richer, animal’s rles have changed. Peple need their services less than befre. Fewer wlves and thieves meant less demand fr dgs fr prtectin; the internal cmbustin engine(内燃机)made hrses unneeded; mdern sanitatin(卫生设备)kept rats in check and made cats less useful. N lnger necessities, dmestic animals became luxuries. Pet-keeping seems t kick in when husehld incmes rise abve rughly $5,000. It is bming.
The trend is nt a new ne. Archaelgists(考古学家)have fund 10,000-year-ld graves in which dgs and peple are buried tgether. Sme cultures -- such as in Scandinavia, where dgs have lng been bth wrking dgs and cmpanins -- have kept pets fr thusands f years. But these days the pet-keeping urge has spread even t parts f the wrld which have n traditin f sinking int a cmfrtable chair with a furry creature.
The pet business is grwing even faster than pet numbers, because peple are spending mre and mre mney n them. N lnger are they fd - waste - recyclers, fed with the remains that fall frm their masters’ tables. Pet - fd shelves are full f delicacies crafted t satisfy a range f appetites, including ice cream fr dgs and fds fr pets that are ld, diabetic r suffer frm sensitive digestin; a number f internet services ffer fd, tailred t the pet’s individual tastes.
In the business this is called “pet humanisatin” -- the tendency f pet wners t treat their pets as part f the family. This is evident in the names given t dgs, which have evlved frm Fid, Rex and Spt t -- in America -- Bella, Lucy and Max. It is evident in the grwing market fr pet clthing, pet grming and pet htels.
Peple still assume that pets must be wrking fr humanity in sme way, perhaps making peple healthier r less anxius. But the evidence fr that is weak. Rather, new research suggests that dgs have evlved thse irresistible “puppy - dg eyes” precisely t affect human emtins. It has wrked. The species that nce enslaved thers nw wrks very hard t pay fr the care f its pets. Sentimental(多愁善感的)Americans ften refer t themselves nt as cat-wners but as the cat’s “mmmy” r “daddy”. Suth Kreans g ne further, describing themselves as cat “butlers”. Watch an unlucky dg-walker trailing “his” hund(猎犬), plastic bag in hand t pick up its mess, and yu have t wnder: wh’s in charge nw?
8.Which f the fllwing trends is NOT TRUE accrding t the passage?
A.Peple’s needs fr animal services are decreasing.
B.Bth the pet number and the pet business are grwing.
C.Pets are increasingly making their wners less anxius.

B.Pet’s inbuilt ability t affect emtins f their wners.
C.Human beings ever rising urge fr pet-keeping.
D.Pet’s rles as bth wrking staff and cmpanins.

A.Pets shuld be treated as equals f their human masters.
B.Human beings are getting much benefit frm their pets.
C.Pet-keeping is still restricted within certain parts f the wrld.
D.Sme pet wners spend t much mney n their pets.
11.Which f the fllwing might be the best title f the passage?
A.The Changing Rles f AnimalsB.The Urge fr Pet-keeping
C.Wh Owns WhmD.Lve Me, Lve My Dg

Anther prblem is that mst cllege curses d nt require students t learn abut internatinal issues. A.Envirnmental matters B.Gegraphic infrmatin
C.Freign relatins D.Gvernment rganizatins
15.In which clumn f a newspaper culd we find this article?
A.Ecnmics B.Entertainment
C.Plitics D.Educatin
