Ⅰ. Wuld yu drink water that had nce been washed dwn a tilet after it’s been cleaned? Think abut it! The climate is warming and fresh water is falling shrt. S recycling waste water int drinking water may becme a necessity. Hwever, “Peple are disgusted by recycled water, because it was nce waste water, the water that ges dwn yur shwers r yur tilets. And even thugh it’s cleaned up t a standard that is the same if nt better than cmmercially bttled water, the key barrier t accept it is peple’s disgust regarding it. ” Riverside psychlgist Daniel Harmn said.
In a recent set f experiments, Harmn and his clleague Mary Gauvain learned hw difficult it can be fr peple t get ver their disgust at the thught f drinking recycled water. Harmn said, “Our study was aimed at investigating whether cmmercials, r these pr-envirnmental messages actually wrk. That is, whether they can get peple t accept recycled water and cnsume recycled water. ”
In ne experiment, the researchers had sme participants watch a shrt vide prmting water cnservatin. And in anther experiment, they added a vide explaining why recycled water might result in disgust, even thugh all pllutants have been cleared away. And neither vide had a strng effect n peple’s willingness t drink recycled water r t sign a dcument supprting the practice. In fact, watching the vide that directly explained recycled water’s disgusting factr was n mre persuasive than the water cnservatin vide alne. Perhaps because reasn r lgic desn’t wrk at all. Harmn thught, “Disgust is such a pwerful reactin that simply giving mre infrmatin is nt ging t be effective because disgust is nt really a reasnable respnse. ”
Harmn said it’s prbably ging t take a lt mre t get peple t accept recycled water. Fr example, it might help t see members f their cmmunity drinking water that’s gne, as it’s called, frm “tilet t tap”, with n ill effects.
1. What des waste water refer t in Paragraph 2? A. Water nce used in shwers. B. Water plluted by industrial waste. C. Water used t wash dwn streets. D. Water causing diseases t spread widely.
【解析】选A。 根据第二段“Hwever, ’Peple are disgusted by recycled water, because it was nce waste water, the water that ges dwn yur shwers r yur tilets’”可知, 然而, 人们厌恶循环水, 因为这些水曾经是废水, 来自于洗澡水或者冲厕所的水。
    2. What’s the purpse f Harmn’s survey? A. T check if cmmercials are reliable. B. T prve pr-envirnmental messages d matter. C. T investigate if peple knw abut waste water. D. T see whether recycled water will be accepted.
根据第三段“Our study was aimed at investigating whether cmmercials, r these pr-envirnmental messages actually wrk. That is, whether they can get peple t accept recycled water and cnsume recycled water.
    3. What can we knw abut “disgust” accrding t Harmn? A. It is an unreasnable reactin. B. There is n persuasive evidence abut it. C. It needs mre lgic and reasns t vercme it. D. It is caused by pllutants in recycled water.
【解析】选A。 根据第四段“Disgust is such a pwerful reactin that simply giving mre infrmatin is nt ging t be effective because disgust is nt really a reasnable respnse.
    4. Where is the text prbably frm? A. A bilgy textbk. B. A travel brchure. C. A scientific magazine. D. A medicine magazine.

4. 【解析】what。 故填what。
7. 【解析】a。 故填a。8. 【解析】determined/shuld determine。 It’s (high) time that后的句子中要用虚拟语气, 用一般过去时, 也可用“shuld+动词原形”。故填determined/shuld determine。
