    Step 1  Review the present continuous passive

    Activity 1

    1. Review the definition and the structure of the present continuous passive, which represents the action that is being performed. 

    2. Ask the students to read the example sentences, pay attention to the bold part and understand the meaning of the bold part.

    In China, calligraphy has developed into a special high-level art apart from satisfying the needs of daily writing. I still remember that my father taught me how to practicing calligraphy with Chinese brushes. As the old saying goes, the first step is always difficult. It is never easy for me to hold a Chinese brush and handle it. However, its unique lines ,rules for writing Chinese characters and handwriting strongly attract me. Especially, I felt that all efforts paid off when I saw my studies and bedrooms were  decorated.with nice-looking calligraphy works.

    Read the passage about an experience of taking part in a Chinese art festival and then complete the passage with the expressions in Activity 4.

    Talk about a Chinese art form that your home town is well-known for.

    My hometown is well-known for the traditional art of Huangmei Opera, which was originated from tea picking songs in Huangmei county, Hubei province. It is one of the Five Operas in China together with Beijing Opera, Yue Opera, Ping Opera and Yu Opera. It first appeared as a simple drama of song and dance.

    Later, it was spread to Anqing city, Anhui province by immigrating victims of floods. Absorbing elements of Anhui Opera and local songs and dances, Huangmei Opera was developed to the present form. It enjoys great popularity among the masses by reflecting the life of ordinary people in a fresh style. Across my hometown, every village has its Huangmei Opera and everyone can sing some folk Huangmei Opera.
