Sharing a Sense f Style
When I wke up n Aug 4, 2016, there was nly ne thing n my mind: what t wear. A billin thughts raced thrugh my brain in the clset. I didn’t want t cme ff as trying t hard, but I als didn’t want t be seen as a slb (懒汉). Nt nly was it my first day f high schl, but it was my first day f schl in a new state; first impressins are everything, and it was imprtant fr me t impress the peple wh I wuld spend the next fur years with.
This was my third time being the new kid. But this time was different because my dad prmised that I wuld start and finish high schl in the same place. This time mattered, and that made me nervus.
After meticulusly raiding my clset, I prudly came ut in a dress frm Target. The sft cttn was cmfrtable, and the ruffled (有褶饰边的) shulders added a hint f fun. Yes, this utfit was the ne. An hur later, I felt pwerful as I headed tward rm 1136. But as I entered class, my jaw drpped t the flr.
Sitting at her desk was Mrs Hutfilz, my English teacher, sprting exactly the same dress as me. I kept my head dwn and tipted t my seat. I made it thrugh my minute (简短的) intrductin speech until Mrs Hutfilz std up, jkingly adding that she liked my style. Althugh this was the mment I had been afraid f frm the mment I walked in, all my anxiety surprisingly melted away, and the students paid attentin as I shared my stry. My smile grew as I laughed with the students. After class, I stayed behind and talked t Mrs Hutfilz, relieved t make a humrus and real cnnectin.
Lking back fur years later, the ten minutes I spent afraid f giving my speech were really nt wrth it. My first perid f high schl certainly made the day unfrgettable in the best way and taught me that Mrs Hutfilz has an awesme sense f style!

Each cuntry has its wn set f natinal steretypes (刻板印象), but perhaps the mst famus is Britain’s lve f tea.
Accrding t the BBC, they drink ver 60 billin cups each year. The mst ppular tea type in the UK is black tea. It’s a simple recipe: Yu find a mug, add a tea bag, pur biling water, add milk and sugar (accrding t yur taste) and finish by stirring.
Usually, the nly debate is whether milk shuld be added befre r after the biling water. But a recent ppular vide has utraged (使愤怒) Britns after cmpletely changing this lng-established methd.
American TikTk user, Sphie, psted her versin f “British tea”, which invlved micrwaving cld water, then adding milk, sugar and an instant teabag cntaining pwdered lemnade, cinnamn and clve (丁香) leaves.
Mainstream media called the methd “prfundly disturbed”, and a Twitter user even wrte, “I wuld rather see tea dumped (倾倒) int the Bstn harbr than drink this abminatin (可恶的东西).”
As yu can tell, tea is a precius part f British life, whether yu’re having afternn tea at a fancy htel r drinking it in a takeaway cup.
“Rsie Lee” – a cmmn slang term fr tea – first came t Britain in the mid-1600s frm China. Since then, the cuntry’s lve fr it has nt declined.
Types f tea can even indicate smene’s scial class, accrding t anthrplgist (人类学家) Kate Fx. In her bk, she ntes that “teas get prgressively weaker as ne ges up the scial ladder”, like black tea served during afternn tea. At the ppsite end, yu have “builder’s teas”, which are standard black teas that are brewed (煮) strnger and include mre milk and sugar.
Fx added, “Taking sugar in yur tea is a lwer-class indicatr: Mre than ne and yu are lwer-middle at best; mre than tw and yu are definitely wrking class.”
Despite the disputes (争论) n what makes a perfect “cuppa”, Britns can at least agree n the saying, “N matter what is happening in yur life, yu always ffer tea.”

A. They drink ver 60 billin cups each mnth.B. They pur biling water ver the tea bag.
C. “Rsie Lee” is Britns’ favrite tea type.D. Its histry dates back t the 16th century.
9. Why did Sphie’s vide anger Britns?
A. She criticized the way Britns drink tea.B. She added milk after the biling water.
C. Her way f making tea was against their traditin.D. She used a strange tea bag.
10. If Jhn is frm the upper class, he prbably puts ____ sugar(s) in his tea, accrding t Fx.
A. n B. neC. twD. three
11. What is the text mainly abut?
A. British tea traditins amng different scial classes.B. The debate n hw t make perfect tea.
C. The influence f tea drinking n Britns’ lives.D. Tea drinking culture in the UK.

A little ver a year ag n Jan 3, 2019, China’s Chang’e 4 spacecraft did smething that had never been dne befre – landing n the mn’s far side. Ever since then, the rver (探测车) it carried – Yutu 2 – has been sending back pictures f the lesser-seen side f ur neighbring satellite.
Nw, the rver has shifted its sight frm hrizntal t vertical. In a paper published in the jurnal Science Advances n Feb 26, Chinese scientists revealed the undergrund structure f the Vn Karman crater (火山口) – the area where Yutu 2 tuched dwn. Using grund-penetrating radar (探地雷达), Yutu 2 was able t detect three distinct layers in the 40 meters beneath the flr f the crater, which Science News cmpares t “layers f a cake”.
The tp 12-meter layer is made up f fine (细密的) dust and sil – a bit like the frsting (糖霜) n a cake. The secnd layer, stretching anther 12 meters belw, cntains a great number f large stnes that are like “cherries in a fruitcake”, wrte Science News. And the next layer – which runs frm 24 meters dwn t 40 meters – is a mixture f bth large and fine materials, just like the whle-wheat bread base f a cake.
This “layered cake” prvides us with a glimpse int mn’s fur billin-year histry – and it was likely t be a vilent ne.
Accrding t the study’s leader, Su Yan, based at the Chinese Academy f Sciences, the rcks in the layers are pssibly leftver debris (碎片) frm past impacts, suggesting asterid cllisins (小行星撞击). The finer sil is the sign f smaller meterite (陨石) cllisins, breaking dwn the rcks int smaller pieces, which were then gradually degraded (降解) by the radiatin frm the sun.
But quite unlike a cake, the mn flr desn’t just stp at the third layer. Instead, it stretches miles deeper. The reasn that Yutu 2’s data stpped at 40 meters was that it reached its maximum range. It may seem like a pity that it culdn’t g any farther fr nw, but the truth is that the technlgy has imprved a lt since it was first used in 1972 by America’s Apll 17 rbiter t map the structure f the mn.
“The previus measurements indicated different layers, but they dn’t seem t have cme up with the level f detail abut the physical prperties f the subsurface that Chang’e 4 is prducing,” Gretchen Benedix, a planetary scientist at Curtin University, Australia, tld ABC News.
Frty meters dwn is just the beginning f ur research int the mn’s far side. With the aid f new technlgy, wh knws what we culd discver if we delved (钻研) even deeper?
What des Paragraph 2 suggest?
A. The rver detected the atmsphere f the mn.
B. The rver had left the far side f the mn.
C. The rver discvered the Vn Karman crater with its radar.
D. The rver detected the undergrund structure f a crater.
13. What des the secnd layer f the crater cntain?
A. Fine dust.B. Sil.
C. Large stnes. D. A mixture f bth large and fine materials.
14. What des Paragraph 5 tell us?
A. Hw imprtant the three layers are t the crater.
B. Why the mn prbably had a vilent histry.
C. Hw asterids changed the mn’s surface.
D. Why meterite cllisins happen frequently.
15. What des Gretchen Benedix prbably think f the measurements f Chang’e-4?
A. They lack details.B. They are beynd expectatins.
C. They repeated the previus study.D. They are praisewrthy.
