If yu live in Eurpe r the Americas, yu likely pick up a frk every day and give n thught t it. Using it prbably seems as natural as breathing. Yet cmpared with the knife and the spn, which appeared very early, the frk is a latecmer t the table.
Researches shw that the frk was first used in Ancient Egypt, China and Greece. Since the 4th century BC, the frk managed t becme cmmn n the tables f upper sciety in Eastern Eurpe and by the 9th century, it travelled t the Middle East and started being used by the upper class under the name “barjyn”. This enabled the frk t slwly becme ppular in these areas.
In the 11th century, the frk came t Italy in the dwry f a princess (王妃的嫁妆) frm the Middle East wh married an Italian fficial. After seeing the princess use the frk, the church strngly criticized her, saying that the frk disrespected the practice f using the fingers. Lcated (位于) in nrthwestern Indiana alng the shre f Lake Michigan, Indiana Dunes is the first natinal park in this state. The park is already Indiana's mst-visited site, with abut 3.5 millin visitrs each year. Here's what t knw befre yu visit.
The park's mst impressive features (特点) are its twering sand dunes. Frmed by glacial melt (冰川融化), the park's namesake dunes can reach heights f almst 200 feet. Strng winds blwing ff Michigan cntinually shape and change the park's 15 miles f shreline, ensuring a slightly different experience each time yu visit.
The warm mnths are the best time t take full advantage f the park's beach. But the park is wrth visiting in any seasn. Yu can d different activities in different seasns. T see beautiful fall leaves, plan yur visit in autumn. Or explre the park in winter and enjy far fewer crwds. If yu visit in spring, just enjy yur walk fr beautiful flwers.
A 3.5-mile path shwing the best the park has t ffer. The mst famus dune is Munt Baldy, and n certain days yu can actually climb t the tp f this sand dune t enjy pen views f the surrunding landscape (风景). Other utdr activities at Indiana Dunes Natinal Park include biking, bating, and fishing. Of curse, swimming in Lake Michigan is ne f the mst belved activities, but it's imprtant t be mindful f changing water cnditins. Like an cean, Lake Michigan can be calm ne minute and dangerus the next.
The park's Dunewd Campgrund has 66 campsites and is equipped with restrms and shwers. It is first-cme, first-served, and the fee is $25 per night. If yu dn't want t camp, several ther accmmdatins (住宿) arund Indiana Dunes dn't require sleeping in a tent. Everything frm bed and breakfasts t htels is available.
If yu're flying t the Midwest, the airprts nearest t Indiana Dunes are Suth Bend Internatinal in Suth Bend, abut 45 miles away, and bth Midway and O'Hare in Chicag. Frm Indianaplis, the drive is abut 2.5 hurs. The park's main gate is just ff I-94 and is easily accessed frm the Indiana Tll Rad. Take the exit fr IN-49 and yu will pass right by the visitr center where yu can park, head in t get a map, and plan the day. The park fee is just $6 per car and $80 fr a seasn pass.
