By the time Robert Porter Allen was born in 1905, the whooping crane(鸣鹤)was already in trouble. The beautiful bird was once commonly found across North America. By 1941, the whooping crane population had dwindled to the double digits. The tallest species in North America were critically endangered
In the 1940s, the remaining cranes migrate(以迁徒) every year from the Gulf Coast of Texas to somewhere in the north of Canada to breed(繁殖). The conservation community didn’t know where the birds went. The wetlands where they used to spend winters were growing rarer and rarer as they tiny, non-migrating group of whooping cranes was alive in Louisiana in 1941, but the group had disappeared by the time Allen started his research.
In 1942, Allen undertook the whooping crane project Over the next three years, he did almost
constant field work that took him from Texas up the cranes' migration route to Nebraska, and on into Saskatchewan in search of the nesting ground of the birds.
Studying the bird in its breeding habitat and seeing how many birds were born would allow
conservationists to understand how to help the birds on their journey. But finding the whooping
crane 's nesting site meant difficult and fruitless air searches over northern Canada
In 1952, Allen wrote a report on the whooping crane. The report was a warning call to the
conservation community: only 33 migratory "whoopers" remained, and their nesting site still hadn’t been found. Two years later, the whooping cranes breeding grounds in Canada's Wood Buffalo National Park were finally found, and Allen headed north to study them firsthand, an "incredibly difficult journey, "in Sprunt’s words, Allen ,s work laid the groundwork for conservationists lo save the birds
Their efforts paid off as the numbers reached 57 by 1970 and 214 by 2005.Today, the whooping crane is still listed as endangered, but there are roughly 600 birds alive.

Experts say that if food were a country, it would rank second behind the US as one of the biggest greenhouse gas polluters. The reason is the rising demand for meat. Animal farming is responsible for14.5 percent of global greenhouse gas methane(甲烷) emissions(排放). While cows are the worse contributors, pigs, sheep, donkeys and other animals play a part as well.
Animal agriculture also causes land to become damaged, water to be polluted and forests to get destroyed. With the world population forecast to rise to 9.8 billion by 2050, things are only looking worse for our already decreasing natural resources, While going vegetarian(素食的)would help meat consumption too deep - rooted in most western diets to allow for such a sharp, permanent change. That is why experts are advocating substituting some of the beef, chicken, or pork with ordinary insects!
Insects, which grow into adults within a matter of months, if not weeks, are ready for consumption much faster than domestic(驯养的) animals. They also require much less room, use less water and food, and produce far less greenhouse gas than animals
Of the I. I million insect species worldwide, scientists have identified 1.700 as eatable. Among
them are ants, grasshoppers, grubs, and earthworms. Just like animals, each insect has a different
taste. Tree worms taste just like pork, and grubs are similar to smoked meat
While eating insects might be a new concept for Western people, over 2 billion people worldwide consume insects as a regular part of their diet. Besides being delicious, insects are high in protein, have very few calories, and are free of the saturated(饱和)at found in animal meat Insects can be prepared in many ways. Creative cooks can use tem to cook protein-rich soup make baked treats, and even fry a few with vegetables. So eat insects -both your body and Mother Earth will thank you for it !
28. Which of the following animals are responsible for the most global methane emissions?
A. Cows B. Pigs C Sheep D .Donkeys
29. How is the third paragraph mainly developed?
A By asking questions B. By providing examples.
C. By listing the numbers D. By making comparisons.
30. What do tree worms taste like?
A. Pig meat B. Tomato soup, C .Fresh vegetables. D. Fried chicken.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Few people eat insects regularly. B. Ordinary insects are high in fat.
C. Saturated fat is harmful to health. D. Insects contain various vitamins

Imagine tens of thousands of huge engines are pushing our planet away from a dying sun.
The visual effect is impressive and goes well with the story. The story is not the typical Hollywood style: A superhero saves the earth; everyone else is there to give a round of applause. The movie "the Wandering Earth " brings a serious question to the audience: What are you going to do when facing an unavoidable disaster to our civilization? All characters in the movie are ordinary people and everyone gives their answer with shining humanity. Against all the odds(逆境)without a good fight. The chance of success is close to zero but they choose hope. It is a Sci-fi fan's feast you don't want to miss.
Sylph 16 February, 2019
I'll expect spaceships in Hollywood movies when Earth is no longer suitable for human survival. But in Chinese concept, we will never abandon our home. We put 10000 engines on Earth and run away together. This is where Americans and Chinese differ. LOL
Steve 27 February. 2019
This movie has a lot of dialogues, more than that’s necessary in most scenes. And the story lie could be better. Another issue is the cast, which is almost made up of rookies or fresh faces, Though the acting is not bad, it's certainly not consistent either

One Possible Version
Dear Mary,
I’m so glad to know that you enjoyed your volunteer activity very much. I have always been inspired to do so whenever possible by my parents and teachers. During the past Spring Festival, I applied to help travelers in the Central Bus Station with some of my classmates. We were arranged to different positions and I was to help travelers have their tickets and luggage checked through the security check port. When it was necessary, I also provided help for those having difficulty carrying luggage down the steps to the parking.
At the end of my service, I felt rather tired but really satisfied. It was the smile on the traveller’s faces and happiness in my own heart that made me consider the activity meaningful and significant. Therefore, I would like to take a more active part in such activities in future.
Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: No, not at all.
W: Thanks a lot. First, could you tell me about travel arrangements for your last holidays? Did you experience any difficulties in your journey?
M: Well, our plane didn’t take off on time. It was delayed five hours, so we didn’t get to Lhasa until four in the morning and we were very tired when we got there. But we managed to book a car at the airport through a car rental platform and it dropped us off at the hotel in time around 7 o’clock for breakfast. So that was all right.

W: Mmm, maybe. I’d like a job in which I can often travel.
M: Well, what about being an air hostess? You could travel a lot.
W: No, I’ve thought of that. Air hostesses work really hard. It’s so tiring. And planes aren’t safe nowadays. They may crash because of bad weather or even be used as weapons if they fall into the wrong hands.
M: How about being an interpreter? You’re really good at languages. And you could travel to international meetings.
W: No, I don’t think so. Interpreting doesn’t sound interesting to me.
M: Well, what are you interested in?
W: Well, maybe I’ll become ... an international businesswoman. It’s so challenging.
M: But you don’t like thinking about money.
W: Well, I could change.

It extended its opening hours to the evening for the first time on Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 in celebration for this year’s Lantern Festival.
About 3,000 visitors were allowed to visit the Palace Museum and step onto the outer city walls of the museum to enjoy a night tour. Around 500 tour participants were able to secure online reservations with the free tickets booked in just 10 minutes. Others included invited guests such as model workers and soldiers in appreciation for their great contributions.
According to Shan Jixiang, director of the Palace Museum, special lighting technology was employed to protect the wooden architecture and prevent the possibility of fires. It is the first time the museum designed a night visit route for the general public. He said some important days in the lunar calendar, like the Mid-Autumn Festival, would possibly become new occasions for night tours, and more regions other than city walls might be opened after the sun sets.
The Palace Museum proudly presents this evening event and wishes all a Happy Lantern Festival!

I'll expect spaceships in Hollywood movies when Earth is no longer suitable for human survival. But in Chinese concept, we will never abandon our home. We put 10000 engines on Earth and run away together. This is where Americans and Chinese differ. LOL

This movie has a lot of dialogues, more than that’s necessary in most scenes. And the story lie could be better. Another issue is the cast, which is almost made up of rookies or fresh faces, Though the acting is not bad, it's certainly not consistent either
Swan I March. 2019

Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: Mmm, I don’t know. Cindy, I just don’t see you as a business person.

“Evening of Lantern Celebrations at the Forbidden City” is the first free evening-event for the general public in the ninety-four years of the Palace Museum’s history.
