Accrding t a new study in JAMA Netwrk Open, daily high-dse vitamin D supplementatin cuts the type 2 diabetes risk by 19% amng prediabetic adults wh have particular genetic variants f the vitamin D receptr (受体) gene. These results are expected t prmte persnalized medical treatment, helping millins f prediabetes patients delay r avid diabetes.
Researchers based their study n a previus clinical trial, in which ver 2,000 American adults with prediabetes tk 4,000 units f vitamin D daily t test its effect n high-risk grups. The trial failed t prve vitamin D wrked fr all participants; hwever, it inspired further thinking: culd it help certain peple?
Diabetes may cause severe lng-term cmplicatins. If the disease can be delayed, many related health risks can be eased. It therefre leads t a meaningful questin: d human brains predict language in the exact same manner as artificial intelligence?
A latest study published in Nature Neurscience ffers a clear answer. It prves that humans tend t cnsider brader linguistic structures, instead f merely fcusing n the single immediate wrd. LLMs are strictly ptimized t predict the next wrd in a fixed and equal pattern, while the human brain actively cmbines wrds int grammatical phrases and makes lgical predictins within cmplete language chunks.
The research team cnducted systematic experiments n Mandarin speakers. They applied MEG (脑磁图) t recrd real-time brain activity and adpted Clze tests t evaluate participants’ linguistic predictin perfrmance. Further analysis n English brain data was als carried ut t ensure the results culd be applied acrss different languages.
The team als used LLMs t quantify the predictability f wrds based n bth their “entrpy” and “surprisal”.
