In the classic tale f tetanus (破伤风), a farmwrker steps n an ld barn nail and develps the bacterial disease. Mst Americans dn’t wrk n farms these days, s it’s easy fr peple t dismiss the illness as smething they’re unlikely t encunter. In reality, this serius micrbial infectin can impact anyne anywhere, and mre Americans are dying f this. Experts blame declining vaccinatin (疫苗接种) rates and wrry that case numbers will keep rising in the cming years if fewer peple get the recmmended shts.
Tetanus is caused by the Clstridium tetani bacteria, which are abundant in sil and typically enter the bdy thrugh wunds that break skin. The bacteria flurish in areas withut xygen, which is why deep cuts are especially risky.

Because nerve damage in the thrat is cmmn, abut half f hspitalized patients need breathing tubes. These treatments aim t keep the persn alive until the immune system clears the pisns frm the bdy, a prcess that takes weeks.

      A. Stay away frm ld barn nails.
      B. Wash ut the deep cuts thrughly.
      C. Take effective medicine after being infected.

      A. Signs f recvery.B. Fllw-up illnesses.
      C. Surces f infectin.D. Early disease symptms.

      B. Parents taking care f yung babies.
      C. Vaccinated teenagers with minr cuts.
      D. Senirs aged ver 70 with heart disease.

      B. The immune system clears the pisn within weeks.
      C. Hspitalized patients need breathing tubes all their lives.
