A grup f highly accmplished schlmates gathered at their ld university prfessr’s hme fr a reunin. They had nce been his favrite students, but nw, as successful prfessinals, they lked tired and stressed. Sn, the cnversatin turned int a lng list f cmplaints: endless wrk pressure, difficult bsses, financial wrries, and the cnstant race fr status.
The prfessr listened quietly, then smiled. He walked t the kitchen and returned with a large pt f steaming cffee and varius cups. There were prcelain cups, glass cups, crystal cups, and plastic nes. Sme lked plain and cheap, thers were elegant and expensive, and a few were truly exquisite.
“Help yurselves t the cffee,” the prfessr said warmly.
The schlmates eagerly lined up. Each f them reached fr a beautiful cup. N ne picked the plain nes. When everyne was seated with a cup in hand, the prfessr spke again.
“Did yu ntice smething? All the nice-lking, expensive cups were taken, and nly the plain, inexpensive nes remain. That’s perfectly nrmal — we all want the best fr urselves. But that is als where yur prblems and stress cme frm.”
He paused, letting the wrds sink in.
The cup itself adds n quality t the cffee. In fact, smetimes the expensive cup nly hides the drink r makes us wrry abut breaking it. “What yu all really wanted was cffee, nt the cup.” He added. “Yet yu cnsciusly chse the best cups, and then started eyeing each ther’s cups.”
The students nce again lked at ne anther, thughtful and silent.
Then the prfessr cncluded sftly, “S, stp fcusing n the cups. Enjy the cffee.”
Truly, life itself is the cffee — rich, cmplex, and fleeting. The jbs, huses, cars, mney, and scial psitins are just cups. They hld their life but d nt define r imprve its essence (本质). Peple spend s much energy chasing the perfect cup that they frget t taste the drink. A humble cup held with gratitude still hlds the same life-giving warmth. The real tragedy is nt having an ugly cup, but letting the cup g cld and untuched. That evening, the schlmates left the prfessr’s huse in silence, nt because they were disappinted, but because they were finally thinking.

Freezers are essential technlgy, as they keep many different kinds f fds and medicines fresh. But they wrsen climate change. Bris Rubinsky, a bimedical engineer at the University f Califrnia, came up with the idea fr ischric freezing (定容冷冻) while wrking n ways t preserve human rgans. If the fd industry wrldwide were t switch ver t this methd, as Rubinsky’s team fund, the drp in emissins per year wuld be the same as taking abut ne millin gas-pwered cars ff the rad.
T use ischric freezing, yu fill a special canister (金属罐) with water first, flat fd inside, near the tp. Then yu seal it up and place the whle thing in a regular freezer. The water begins freezing frm the bttm and expands. This increases the pressure inside the canister. Eventually, the high pressure makes it impssible fr ice t keep frming. The fd at the tp remains flating in water at “clse t freezing temperatures, but withut any ice in the fd”, explains Bilba-Sainz, a fd scientist at the US Department f Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service in Nrthern Califrnia.
Why des this save electricity? The fd never freezes slid, s it takes much less energy t get the canister cld enugh. A typical fd freezer runs at-20 degrees Celsius, but t use ischric freezing with slid fds such as tmates r blueberries, yur freezer needs t be at-5 degrees Celsius r higher.
T use the new technique, the fd industry wuldn’t have t change ut their current freezers, just set them t run warmer. Bilba-Sainz and her team are wrking n ways t prduce and sell canisters f different sizes.
If all that weren’t exciting enugh, this new methd als usually results in fresher, tastier fds. Regular freezing frms ice that damages many fds. If yu put a tmat int a regular freezer, fr example, it will g bad when yu thaw (解冻) it. In an ischric freezer, thugh, “tmates gt really, really gd results,” says Bilba-Sainz. “They taste fresh.”
24.What d we knw abut ischric freezing?
A. It was riginally develped fr a cmmercial purpse.
B. It has been applied in the fd industry wrldwide.
C. It reduces the stress n the envirnment.
D. It can help reduce gas-pwered cars.
25.Which aspect f ischric freezing is paragraph 2 mainly abut?
A. The influential benefits.B. The wrking principle.
C. The ptential applicatin.D. The technical challenges.
26.What might the fd industry d accrding t the passage?
A. Run the freezing industry.
B. Replace their current freezers.
C. Prduce canisters f different sizes.
D. Set the temperature f the freezers higher.
27.What is the authr’s attitude twards ischric freezing?
A. Supprtive.B. Cncerned.C. Dubtful.D. Unclear.

Fr much f the year, the main attractin f Zhuji, a city in Zhejiang prvince, is its status as the birthplace f Xi Shi, a wman f great classical beauty wh lived 2,500 years ag. But since 2023 tens f thusands have been t Zhuji arund the new year fr the Xi Shi Music Festival. Mre than 133,000 visitrs stayed vernight during this year’s event, a 29% increase ver the ne in 2025.

What is striking is that almst everywhere else cnsumers have been unwilling t spend since the pandemic (流行病), yet cncerts have rared back t life in China. Visitrs lift the ecnmies f the spts they g t as they splash ut (挥霍) n fd and accmmdatin. Sme places have started intrducing plicies t attract artists t perfrm. The Perfrming Arts Assciatin suggests that ne yuan spent n cncert tickets can bring nearly seven yuan f additinal spending.
Sme fans are particularly hardcre. Last year Ms Wang, a 35-year-ld, fllwed Mayday t different cities t watch their shws, tgether with her husband, spending 20,000 yuan n tickets and the same again n flights and htels. Ging t shws is ne f the things that she lks frward t mst. She als recalls sbbing uncntrllably during her first Mayday cncert after the pandemic.
Chinese cmmentary has cme t call this kind f spending “emtinal cnsumptin”: paying fr experiences t cmfrt the sul, rather than cllecting material pssessins. This kind f spending is rising in spite f, r perhaps even because f, a discuraging ecnmic situatin. Sme may regard the trend as a ne-time thing; if it gets yung peple t cnsume, thugh, yu might just rck and rll with it.

30.Accrding t the last paragraph, which f the fllwing might lead t the cncert bm?
A. Energetic yuth.B. Weak ecnmy.
C. Wealthy audience.D. Scial develpment.
31.What might be the best title f the passage?
A. Music Festival: A Bming New Year Traditin
