“Nise is nt just causing annyance, but it actually makes us sick,” said Dr Thmas Münzel, a prfessr at Jhannes Gutenberg University Mainz. “Regardless f where the sund is cming frm, if it gets luder than 60 decibels (分贝), it can increase the risk f heart disease.”
When ur bdy hears these nises, it reacts with a stress reactin. In this case, these sudden and unexpected nises cause hrmnes (荷尔蒙) t speed up and eventually damage the heart. Althugh the chance that a single nise will affect yu is unlikely, it’s the cntinuus expsure t the sund that can finally affect yu.
“But ur heart health isn’t the nly cause fr cncern. Lng-term nise may als raise the risk f type 2 diabetes (糖尿病), depressin, and anxiety disrders,” he warns. In the future, Münzel plans t examine hw nises frm cars, planes, and ther vehicles affect the brain. But despite the amunt r the depth f research he cnducts, it’ll take the help f pliticians t imprve the effect f nise n ur health. “Pliticians have t take int accunt, in particular, the new findings,” Münzel said, “As fr aircraft nise and airprts, it is imprtant t make new laws and set new lwer nise limits that prtect peple living clse by the airprt instead f the wners f the airprt.”

If yu culd travel in time, where wuld yu g? Perhaps yu wuld watch a perfrmance f a Shakespeare’s play in Elizabethan England? What abut hanging ut with Lazi in the Spring and Autumn Perid? Or maybe yu’d travel far ahead f the present day t see what the future hlds.
The pssibility f time travel is indeed attractive. Stries explring the subject have been arund fr hundreds f years. Perhaps the best-knwn example is science fictin nvel The Time Machine, written by H. G. Wells and published in 1895. It was adapted int at least tw feature films f the same name, as well as tw televisin versins, and many cmic bk adaptatins. It cntributes t the ppularizatin f the cncept f time travel using a vehicle that allws an peratr t travel purpsefully and selectively. The term “time machine”, cined by Wells, is nw universally referred t a vehicle transprting peple int the far future.
But culd time travel actually be pssible? Sme scientists say yes, in thery. They prpse using cracks (裂缝) in time and space called “wrmhles”, which culd be used as shrtcuts (捷径) t ther perids. Einstein’s thery f relativity allws time travel in extreme cnditins. And Stephen Hawking says yu culd travel int the future with a really fast spaceship, ging at nearly the speed f light. Thugh building such a spaceship wuldn’t f curse be simple.
Even if yu culd travel int the past, there is smething called the “grandfather paradx”. It asks what wuld happen if a time traveler were t g back in time and have his wn grandfather killed fr sme reasn, and therefre prevent himself frm being brn. If the time traveler wasn’t brn, hw wuld he travel back in time?
And wuld yu really like t visit the future? In H. G. Wells’ bk, the main character travels int distant time where he arrives at a beach and is attacked by giant crabs. He then travels 30 millin years int the future where the nly living thing is a black bject with tentacle (触角).
If that’s what’s in stre (即将到来), maybe we are better just living in the present day after all.
12. Which f the fllwing statements is TRUE accrding t the passage?
A. The stries f time travel have nly been ppular in recent years.
B. The “time machine” is a vehicle transprting peple t everywhere.
C. The Time Machine by Wells has been adapted int different frms.
D. Sme scientists generally believe time travel is physically pssible.
13. What d sme scientists advise using fr time travel theretically?
A. Blackhles.B. Wrmhles.
C. Ordinary spaceships.D. Extreme cnditins.
14. What des “grandfather paradx” in paragraph 4 indicate?
A. The reunin f the time traveler and his grandfather brings happiness.
B. The time traveler ges back in time t seek fr his grandfather.
C. The grandfather’s death makes the time traveler’s birth impssible.
D. The time traveler is prevented frm meeting his grandfather.
15. What is the authr’s attitude twards time travel based n the passage?
A. Dubtful.B. Unclear.
C. Neutral.D. Supprtive.
C 13. B 14. C 15. A
根据第二段中“Perhaps the best-knwn example is science fictin nvel The Time Machine, written by H. G. Wells and published in 1895. It was adapted int at least tw feature films f the same name, as well as tw televisin versins, and many cmic bk adaptatins.(也许最著名的例子是科幻小说《时间机器》,由H. G. Wells撰写,出版于1895年。它被改编成至少两部同名电影,以及两部电视版本和许多漫画书)”可知,Wells写的《时间机器》被改编成不同的形式,故选C。
【13题详解】细节理解题。根据第三段中“But culd time travel actually be pssible? Sme scientists say yes, in thery. They prpse using cracks (裂缝) in time and space called “wrmhles”, which culd be used as shrtcuts (捷径) t ther perids.(但是时间旅行真的可能吗?一些科学家在理论上说是的。他们建议在时空中使用被称为“虫洞”的裂缝,这可以作为通往其他时期的捷径)”可知,一些科学家建议使用“虫洞”从理论上进行时间旅行,故选B。

If the time traveler wasn’t brn, hw wuld he travel back in time?(即使你能穿越到过去,也存在所谓的“祖父悖论”。
根据第四段提到“祖父悖论”使得时间旅行有可能不能实现、第五段中“In H. G. Wells’ bk, the main character travels int distant time where he arrives at a beach and is attacked by giant crabs. He then travels 30millin years int the future where the nly living thing is a black bject with tentacle (触角).(在H. G. Wells的书中,主人公穿越到遥远的时间,来到一个海滩,遭到了巨蟹的袭击。然后他穿越到3000万年后的未来,那里唯一的生物是一个长着触手的黑色物体)”以H.G.威尔斯的书为例,表明即使回到过去也有可能遭遇险境,结合最后一段“If that’s what’s in stre (即将到来), maybe we are better just living in the present day after all.(如果这是未来可能发生的事,也许我们最好还是活在当下)”可推知,作者对时间旅行持怀疑态度,故选A。
