Washingtn State University prfessr Mesut Cicek and his research team repeatedly tested ChatGPT by giving it hyptheses(假设) taken frm scientific papers. The gal was t see if the AI culd crrectly determine whether each claim was supprted by research r nt—— in ther wrds, whether it was true r false. In ttal, the team evaluated mre than 700 hyptheses and asked the same questin 10 times fr each ne t measure cnsistency.
When the experiment was first cnducted in 2024, ChatGPT answered crrectly 76.5% f the time. In a fllw-up test in 2025, accuracy rse slightly t 80%. Hwever, nce the researchers adjusted fr randm guessing, the results lked far less impressive. The AI perfrmed nly 60% better than chance. The system had the mst difficulty identifying false statements, crrectly labeling them nly 16.4% f the time. It als shwed ntable incnsistency.
