      Strange stnes f Csta Rica
      哥斯达黎加的石球究竟是不是人类的杰作?
      One f the strangest mysteries in archaelgy (考古学) was discvered in the Diquis River delta, in suthern Csta Rica. Since the 1930s, hundreds f stne balls have been fund. They range in size frm a few centimetres t ver tw metres.
      Wh made these perfect spheres (球体) and hw they made them remains a mystery. Sme researchers believe the stnes were made by extreme heating fllwed by cling. Peple culd have plished the spheres with sand r leather. The ancient Csta Ricans had n written language s there is n written recrd f just hw they made the spheres.
      Almst all are made f granite (花岗岩), a hard stne created by vlcanes (火山). The granite quarries (采石场) were 25 t 30 miles away frm the largest stnes, which weigh mre than 10 tns each. Nbdy knws hw peple mved them.
      Many f the stnes have been fund near the remains f huses r graves (坟墓). Sme believed that the stnes cntained hidden treasures and a few have been smashed (打碎) but nthing has been fund inside. Despite these lsses, the Natinal museum f Csta Rica has recrded 130 spheres. Hwever, many stnes are nt included because they have been remved frm their riginal sites and used as rnaments (装饰) in hmes, gardens and churches.
