Beauty has always been regarded as smething praisewrthy. Almst everyne thinks attractive peple are happier and healthier, have better marriages and mre respectable jbs. Persnal advisr give them better advice fr finding jbs. Even judges are sfter n attractive defendants, but in the executive circle, beauty can becme a liability.
While attractiveness is a psitive factr fr a man n his way up the executive ladder, it is harmful t a wman.
Handsme male executives were cnsidered as having mre hnesty than plainer nes; their success was cnnected nt with ability but with factrs such as luck.

Text 10
Althugh American infrmality is well-knwn , many new visitrs think that it indicates a “lack f respect”. This is especially true in the business wrld. Americans ften use names upn meeting a stranger and they ften smile and say “Hi” r “Hell”, rather than using a mre frmal handshake. It is gd t remember that t an American such an infrmal greeting really means the same thing as a mre frmal handshake . Similarly, Americans d nt usually give special “farewell’ r handshake t each persn when they leave a party f business meeting. They will ften just wave ggbye t the whle grup, then they will leave.
Americans seem either ttally hurried and hard wrking r ttally infrmal and at ease. Often yu will see men wrking at ffice desks withut their chairs and even put their feet up n the desk while they talk n the telephne. This is nt meant t be rude. A visitr t United States shuld therefre understand that being in a great hurry des nt indicate unfriendliness and being infrmal and being at ease des nt shw a lack f respect.
