15、 Des heavy use f cell phnes lead t a risk f cancer? This questin has caused serius arguments fr many years. A new study in rats nw adds t thse cncerns. Its data linked lng-term, intense expsure （强烈的暴露） t radiatin （辐射） frm cell phnes with an increased risk f cancer in the heart r brain.
The results have yet t be cnfirmed（确认）, the authrs nte. Mrever, they add, it’s nt yet clear what the findings may mean in terms f human health.
Indeed, althugh the rat study fund a link between cell-phne radiatin and cancer, it ffers n clues t why such a link might exist, says Jnathan Samet. He teaches preventative medicine and directs the Institute fr Glbal Health at the University f Suthern Califrnia in Ls Angeles. Still, he calls the new study’s findings “imprtant”. They culd lead t studies lking int hw cell-phne radiatin might result in cancer, he says.
Phne signals are relayed between cell twers and cell phnes thrugh radi waves. This radi frequency – r RF – radiatin is a type knwn as nn-inizing（非离子化）. Unlike X-rays and alpha particles, nn-inizing radiatin des nt put enugh energy int cells t release electrns frm atms（原子） r mlecules（分子）, prducing ins（离子）. S it tends t be far less harmful than inizing radiatin, such as X-rays. But that des nt mean radi waves might nt cause harm.
