On a recent trip thrugh the Himalayas, my bruises(淤伤)became the truest suvenirs. Mre persnal than anything bught, they carry a unique memry. Over time, my desire fr typical suvenirs has faded; I nw value experiences ver bjects. But maybe that’s just me. Tw ut f three Americans bring back a suvenir frm their travels, with US sales tpping $21bn in 2022.

Travellers tday are mre aware f their impact n lcal cmmunity, but the prblems caused by travel suvenirs are ften verlked. In a 2022 Australian reprt, up t 75% f suvenirs marketed as “lcal” are made verseas. Real gds are expensive due t time-cnsuming labur invlved, s sme shps sell cheap fakes(假货)with mst custmers giving little regard t their rigins. While buying fakes may seem t supprt lcal sellers, it ften minimizes the prfit f the traditinal handicrafts, creating a negative cycle.
S, hw can yu buy meaningful suvenirs? “Be ’s nt just abut buying r chsing carefully, it’s abut rejecting and explaining why,” said Madarkal. Asking where an item cmes frm and hw it is made is a gd first step. Chsing unique designs ver mass-prduced gds at fair-trade markets helps supprt lcal cmmunities. Intentins als matter, as suvenirs shuld be chsen fr persnal meaning rather than habit. And suvenirs dn’t always have t be bjects—jurnals r skills gained can becme lasting reminders.

Researchers at MIT (麻省理工学院) have develped a new prsthetic (假肢的) leg that can be cntrlled by brain signals, an achievement that culd greatly enhance the experience f walking fr peple with leg disabilities.
Accrding t a new study published in the jurnal Nature Medicine, the researchers fund that their “neurprsthetics” increased walking speed by 41 percent cmpared t a cntrl grup wh received cnventinal prstheses, enabling equivalent peak speeds t persns withut leg amputatin (截肢). “Better yet, such a device culd adapt in real-time t a variety f envirnments such as slpes, stairs and uneven pathways”, the researchers argued.
“This is the first prsthetic study in histry that shws a leg prsthesis cntrlled fully by the brain. It creates a natural walking mvement,” said the authr Hugh Herr, wh has lst bth legs himself. “N ne has been able t shw this level f brain cntrl. The human’s nervus system is cntrlling the mvement, nt a rbtic cntrl algrithm (算法).”
The study examined seven patients wh underwent special surgery, which allws them t accurately sense the psitin, speed, and turning frce f their legs.
“Because f the interface f this special surgery, we were able t bst the neural signaling, preserving as much as we culd,” said lead authr Hyengun Sng. “This helped peple cntinuusly and directly cntrl their walking psitin in different situatins such as stairs and slpes, and they culd even g ver barriers.” Better yet, “nt nly will they be able t walk n a flat surface, but they’ll be able t g hiking r dancing because they’ll have full cntrl ver their mvement,” Herr tld us.
“This wrk represents yet anther step in us demnstrating what is pssible in terms f restring functin in patients wh suffer frm severe leg injury,” Harvard Medical Schl assciate prfessr Mathew Carty added.
32. What is the biggest advantage f the new neurprsthetics ver traditinal nes?
A. It is much cheaper t prduce and use.
B. It can be cntrlled directly by the user’s brain.
C. It wrks better n flat surfaces than n slpes.
D. It requires n surgical peratin fr patients.
33. What can we learn abut Hugh Herr frm the text?
A. He is a patient wh has tested the new prsthetic leg.
B. He dubts whether the new device can wrk stably.
C. He lst his legs and is devted t prsthetic research.
D. He invented the rbtic cntrl algrithm fr prsthetics.
34. Why is the special surgery mentined in the study?
A. T help patients recver frm leg amputatin cmpletely.
B. T imprve the transmissin f neural signals fr cntrl.
C. T reduce the pain caused by wearing traditinal prstheses.
D. T replace the functin f the new neurprsthetic device.
35. What des Mathew Carty think f the new research?
A. It is a significant prgress in restring leg functin.
B. It still has many technical prblems t slve.
C. It will replace all traditinal prstheses sn.
D. It is nly suitable fr a small number f patients.

At the end f the day, MBTI can be a fun tl fr self-reflectin and a great icebreaker when meeting new peple. 40 It’s a starting pint, nt a final answer, and it shuld never be used t limit yurself r thers.
A. It refers t hiding yur true persnality t adapt t specific scial situatins.
B. It’s easy t use these results t label yurself and the peple arund yu.
C. Hwever, this is a huge misunderstanding f hw persnality wrks.
D. MBTI is a scientifically prven tl that can predict a persn’s future success.
