Recently, I was talking with the mther f a student I taught nearly 15 years ag. “He still has his magazine! I knw exactly where it is,” she said. It might be surprising that a yung adult has kept a middle schl English assignment fr ver a decade, but I ften hear this abut my favrite activity: the magazine prject.
Originally, this prject was designed t slve a cmmn prblem in teaching writing: Hw can we fully engage students s that they will take the time t edit, revise, and plish their wrk? I knw that letting students chse their writing tpics can imprve engagement, s I created a prject that asks students t chse a tpic f persnal interest and spend mst f a semester writing, designing, and publishing their wn magazine n that tpic. The cmbinatin f tpic chice and a final published magazine greatly imprves my students ’ investment in their writing all semester lng.
When I intrduce the prject, this big chice usually attracts students, but many dn’t believe that they really d get t chse. They fire questins at me, asking if their whle magazine can be abut adventure rides, r the vast mystery f space. I always assure them that they can write abut whatever interests them. I can’t pssibly anticipate what kinds f writing might engage every eighth grader, and giving them a free chice is the best way t d that. Cnsequently, ur classrm becmes lively as writers eagerly share ideas.
Twenty-five years ag, students stuck their pages tgether. But nw we give them the ptin f creating an nline magazine using mdern technlgy. This eliminates printing expenses while develping valuable cmputer skills. We usually schedule the final due date just befre ur schl’s pen huse s that the magazines can be displayed fr the cmmunity.
These unique magazines make a pwerful statement abut what matters t ur students. And every time a frmer student tells me they still keep their magazine, it cnfirms the true meaning f this prject.
      24. What was the students ’ main prblem in writing?
      Step 3:
Enter a title, maximum pints, the start date, due date, and feedback release date.
      Title:
Name the assignment smething clear and descriptive.
      Instructins:
Yu can use the instructins area t prvide infrmatin r directins that are specific t this assignment, fr example, if yu want students t use their student number as the name f the wrk when they uplad it.
      Max Grade:
If yu are using the default grading system, set the max grade as “23” .
If yu are using Turnitin fr frmative wrk, r paper similarity checking, then yu may wish t enter 0 as the max grade.
      A. Lw cnfidence. B. Limited techniques. C. Weak mtivatin. D. Insufficient materials.
      25. What made students highly engaged in the prject?
      A. Chances fr adventures. B. Persnal chice f tpics.

Scientists have taken t the saln (美发厅) after realising hairdressers may be an “under-recgnised” frce in fueling climate actin. Alngside their craft, hairdressers are knwn fr their cnversatin skills, wh ften act as an agny aunt, adviser and friend rlled int ne. New research frm the University f Bath’s Centre fr Climate Change and Scial Transfrmatin (CAST) reveals this is what makes hair salns centers f trust that culd be used t encurage cnversatins arund climate change.
The research team interviewed 30 UK saln wners abut sustainability, and then ran a natinwide interventin in 25 sustainable salns using Mirrr Talkers, where ec-tips are placed n saln mirrrs t engender discussins n sustainable haircare practices.
“The carbn ftprint f shamp ( 洗 发 水) is mstly in the ht water used,” says Denise Baden f the University f Suthamptn. “Simple messages like ‘mst f us use t much shamp and shamp t ften ’ can spark cnversatins abut hw shamping less and at lwer temperatures saves time, mney, energy, water and is better fr yur skin and hair.”
The study fund nearly 73% f saln clients were likely t change their haircare rutines after cnversatins sparked by the Mirrr Talkers, sme even switching t ec-friendly prducts, using cler water, and adpting greener habits at hme.
Researchers say this demnstrates hw hairdressers have an “untapped ability” t weave climate change int everyday cnversatins and actins. They are nw urging plicymakers t rll ut tls like Mirrr Talkers natinally. “If we’re serius abut building a public mvement fr climate actin, then it’s time t invest in these unsung influencers because real change starts in everyday cnversatins,” says Dr Sam Hamptn f CAST.
Matilda Cllins, a senir directr and stylist, says the Mirrr Talkers initiative culd gain psitive utcmes if the experience “feels natural and engages clients withut being verly virtuus” . She adds, “Ultimately, the trust a stylist builds with the client is what will drive ptential psitive changes in behaviur. It culd be a great educatin platfrm and a cnversatin starter, hwever.”
      28. What des the underlined wrd “engender” in paragraph 2 mean?
      A. Stimulate. B. Maintain. C. Simplify. D. Cntrl.
      29. What is the fcus f the third paragraph?
      A. The imprtance f saving water. B. The harm f verusing shamp.
      C. The functin f ec-tips in salns. D. The strategy f starting cnversatins.
      30. What can we infer frm Dr Sam Hamptn’s wrds?
      A. Sund plicies encurage investment.
      B. Daily cnversatins can make a difference.
      C. Unsung influencers need prfessinal training.
      D. Mirrr Talkers has gained natinwide ppularity.
      31. Which f the fllwing can be a suitable title fr the text?
      A. Salns: Overlked Centers t Build Trust
      B. Haircare: A Hidden Surce f Carbn Ftprint
      C. Mirrr Talkers: A Platfrm t Shw Fashin Trends

Mst peple regard space based human research as distant frm rdinary life, fcusing nly n extreme astrnaut survival challenges. A decade lng glbal study n micr gravity neural(神经) adaptatin has brken this steretype, revealing that lng term space expsure reshapes human nervus regulatin, with its research utputs greatly imprving rdinary peple’s daily mental and sleep health.
Published in Science Advances, the research analyzed neural data frm nearly 15,000 lng stay astrnauts and grund vlunteers acrss 12 cuntries. The research team spent eight years tracking samples and built a new mdel t separate space specific micr gravity impacts frm daily envirnmental influences. In ttal, researchers identified 386 neural regulatin patterns altered by micr gravity, clsely linked with sleep rhythm adjustment and emtinal stability. Mst changes cme frm subtle adaptive shifts in brain nerve signal transmissin.
The study brught a striking breakthrugh: neural adaptive rules fund in space astrnauts wrk better fr grund residents with chrnic sleep anxiety than traditinal adjustment methds. Previusly, psychlgists had nly fund limited shrt term relief ways and assumed lng term neural imprvement relied n medical drugs. “Space derived adaptive patterns ffer gentler daily slutins we ignred befre,” said Dr. Zhu, a neurbilgist frm the Chinese Aerspace Research Institute. Her team calculated that space inspired lifestyle adjustments caused abut 3% mre stable emtinal feedback amng grund participants.
Still, the findings leave several dubts unslved. Researchers d nt fully understand hw micr gravity triggers such neural shifts. Sme experts remain cautius, saying the mdel’s simulatin methds need further testing. A certain sleep related neural pattern, fr instance, may be effective fr reasns unrelated t its space bserved perfrmance itself.
Despite the debate, the research prvides practical guidance fr daily mental care. It helps scientists develp milder nn-drug adjustment plans and ffers a new path fr explring hw extreme envirnment research benefits rdinary public health. As ne aerspace psychlgist nted, extreme cnditin human research will keep ffering new insights fr daily life as space explratin advances.
      32. What d we knw abut the new study?
      A. It cvers wrldwide astrnaut grups. B. It prves neural changes have ended.
      C. It studies 10 year lng term space data. D. It clarifies all neural adaptive mysteries.
      33. What can be inferred frm Paragraph 3?
      A. Extreme envirnment research guides daily mental care.
      B. Early experts fund enugh lng term relief ways.
      C. Medicatin imprves emtin mre naturally.
      D. Space patterns cause mst neural imprvements.
      34. What is the authr’s attitude t the study?
      A. Uncaring. B. Psitive. C. Dubtful. D. Cautius.
      35. Which is the best title fr the text?
      A. Space Neural Research: Lessns fr Daily Mental Health
      B. Neural Patterns: Causes f Sleep related Traits
      C. Micr gravity Adaptatin: Rules f Space Survival
      D. Space Explratin: ANew Way t Cure Diseases

William Shakespeare may have written that “all the wrld’s a stage”, but sadly theaters witness a decline in schl visits due t budget pressures. 36
The mst bvius benefit is academic. Students watching a live play utperfrm thse seeing the same play as a film adaptatin n knwledge f cntent and vcabulary. 37 When seeing it brught t life, they can build a thrugh understanding in discussing the staging and interpretatins f stage directins.
Live theater als teaches hw t develp relatinships. Peple’s heart rates synchrnize (同步) in a theater audience. This is a behavir that has been shwn t enhance scial bnding. 38 In fact, the cmmn heightened emtin f watching a play als teaches students that it’s k t feel and express emtins such as sadness.
39 Schls really welcme using theater and plays t pen up difficult discussins where students can explre diverse perspectives and accept thers with an pen mind. As a result, students are mre likely t accept statements such as “I think peple can have different pinins abut the same thing”.
Finally, theater helps pen students ’ eyes up t the range f jbs available within the industry. 40 There are many backstage rles, which ften dn’t becme bvius until yu experience a live perfrmance.
Given these significant benefits — academic, emtinal, scial, and ccupatinal — schls shuld guarantee that students never miss ut n these transfrmative experiences.
      A. Plays dn’t just require actrs.
      B. Live theater makes class discussin intlerable.
      C. The actual jurney t the theater als bsts scial tlerance.
      D. A synchrnized audience is perfect fr building scial tlerance.
      E. The shared experience f smething mving helps peple cnnect.

Mdern life mves faster than ur minds were designed t handle. In the last twenty years, technlgy 56 (advance) ahead f human evlutin. We live in a 24/7 digital wrld, but ur brains still run n ancient “hardware” designed fr 57 (survive). This “speed gap” helps explain 58 we ften feel verwhelmed. Our ancestrs faced shrt bursts f stress frm physical 59 (threat), but tday we face “small alarms” all day. An angry email r a scial media ntificatin ( 通 知 ) activates the same heart-racing respnse as a lin. Feeling 60 (stress) tday is a natural bilgical reactin t a nnstp wrld.
We are 61 (cnstant) in this “high alert” mde fr hurs. This prevents the bdy frm entering the essential “rest and digest” state needed fr lng-term health, 62 (leave) us feeling permanently “fried.” In fact, much f 63 mental exhaustin cmes frm “decisin verlad.” We make thusands f chices daily, which cnsumes the brain’s energy. T address this, experts recmmend using self-explratin questins t cut thrugh the nise, such as “Is it wrth my peace f mind?” By making fewer, mre 64 (intentin) decisins, yu prtect yur mental battery and save yur precius energy 65 things that truly matter.
