Laser (激光) technlgy is set t revlutinize space cmmunicatin, ptentially allwing peple t have vide chats with family and friends while n lng space trips: SpaceX, a leading player in the space industry, is pineering laser-based cmmunicatin technlgy fr satellites. Last Octber, US startup Mun Space tk up SpaceX’s ffer, aiming t use the technlgy t establish a high-speed satellite cnnectin, as reprted by tech magazine PCMag.
Laser-based cmmunicatin is widely regarded as the future f space cmmunicatin. Accrding t NASA, the term “laser” stands fr light amplificatin by stimulated emissin f radiatin. In a laser beam, light waves are aligned in peaks, making the beam narrw and bright — ideal fr maintaining fcus ver lng distances.
Traditinally, satellites rely n radi waves fr sending and receiving infrmatin. Bth laser and radi waves travel at the speed f light, but lasers can carry far mre data. Fr instance, NASA ntes that dwnlading a tw-hur HD mvie with lasers takes just eight minutes, cmpared t ver 26 days with radi waves.
Lasers als ffer enhanced security due t their thin beams, which leave smaller “ftprints” This reduces the chance f signals being intercepted r disrupted by thers, as stated in the natinal magazine. Additinally, laser equipment is lightweight and cnsumes less pwer, freeing up mre space n spacecraft fr scientific tls.
Hwever, the narrw laser beam presents a significant challenge: lasers are typically targeted at satellites 500 kilmeters abve Earth, which mve thusands f kilmeters per hur. Mrever, cluds and fg can interfere with laser signals, thugh mre grund statins in adverse (恶劣的) weather areas can mitigate this issue.
While laser cmmunicatin technlgy has nt yet been widely adpted, its market is expanding rapidly. Frtune Business Insights predicts the market culd reach 29.52 billin (abut 210.19 billin yuan) by 2032. Sme experts even suggest that as the technlgy matures, it may gradually supplement radi wave cmmunicatin in mst space missins by 2040.
24.Which f the fllwing best explains the wrking feature f a laser beam that benefits lng-distance space cmmunicatin?
A.Light waves in it travel at a speed faster than radi waves.
B.Its light waves are aligned in peaks, making it narrw and bright.
C.It can carry mre data than radi waves due t its larger ftprint.
D.It cnsumes less pwer, which ensures stable transmissin ver distance.
25.What des the underlined wrd “intercepted” prbably mean in paragraph 4?
      A.Blcked.B.Occupied.C.Prvided.D.Strengthened.
26.Which measure is mentined t address the prblem f laser signal disruptin by bad weather?
A.Increasing the pwer f laser equipment n spacecraft.
B.Building mre grund statins in areas with pr weather.
C.Adjusting the wavelength f laser beams t avid interference.
D.Using heavier but mre stable laser devices fr cmmunicatin.
27.What des the passage imply abut the future f laser-based cmmunicatin?
A.Its market grwth will slw dwn as the technlgy matures.
B.It will cmpletely replace radi wave cmmunicatin by 2040.
C.It will play an increasingly imprtant rle in space cmmunicatin.
D.It will nly be used in a few space missins due t technical limits.
When learning a new language, ur jurney begins with grammar, vcabulary and prnunciatin. Yet the deepest experience happens when language is presented thrugh culture. The recent Wrld Chinese Language Cnference (世界汉语大会) in Beijing explained this apprach clearly. By presenting language educatin thrugh cultural experiences — whether thrugh tea, calligraphy r pera — Chinese language instructrs wrldwide are making use f the richness f traditin t build a cnnectin.
A central idea stressed at the cnference was that Chinese characters prvide a basis fr understanding the cultural lgic that shaped the language. At the cnference, participants frm different crners f the wrld shared hw cultural interest had inspired. their language jurneys. Alessandr Tsc, Italian directr f the Cnfucius Institute in Sicily, described hw Chinese pera ffered him a way t understand nt nly the language but als its philsphical (哲学的) and emtinal meanings.
The glbal spread f Chinese further stresses the link between culture and language. Tea serves as a histrical example f this. As it traveled frm Yunnan and Sichuan acrss the ancient Tea Hrse Rad, s t did Chinese wrds, philsphies and practices. The Chinese character “cha” develped int “chai” acrss Central Asia, while the Amy dialect f Fujian prvince exprted “te” t Eurpe. A single wrd thus carries with its centuries f exchange, reflecting bth linguistic develpment and cultural spread. Teaching such wrd-rigin stries nt nly enriches vcabulary but als develps a sense f histrical and glbal awareness, strengthening the idea that language is clsely linked t its cultural basis.
Finally, the Wrld Chinese Language Cnference shwed that cultural experience is nt secndary but basic t effective language teaching. Culture turns the study f a language frm an educatinal task int a jurney f understanding — a jurney that, in the case f Chinese, links learners t centuries f artistic, philsphical and scial traditin.
28.Hw d we get the deepest language experience?
      A.By cnnecting language with culture.
B.By teaching Chinese with tea culture.
      C.By learning grammar and vcabulary.
      D.By presenting educatin thrugh culture.
29.Hw des Alessandr Tsc see culture’s rle in language learning?
A.It is the nly reasn fr language learning.
B.It helps find philsphy in Chinese characters.
C.It helps understand language and its deep meanings.
D.It is an effective way t memrize Chinese characters.
30.Why des the authr mentin the wrd “cha” and “te”?
A.T shw Chinese wrds change with places.
B.T explain language and culture cnnect clsely.
C.T suggest dialects matter mre than Mandarin.
D.T prve trade rutes drive Chinese wrd spread.

      A.Hw t Learn Chinese Effectively
      B.Chinese Characters and Culture Meaning
      C.The Wrld Chinese Language Cnference
D.Language Learning Links t Cultural Origins
Every year, ver 14 millin tns f plastic waste end up in the wrld’s ceans, accrding t the UN Envirnment Prgramme. This waste kills millins f marine animals each year, pllutes fragile castal ecsystems, and breaks dwn int micrplastics that enter the fd chain and reach the human bdy. Mst f this plastic cmes frm single-use packaging, designed fr days f use but able t persist in ceans fr hundreds f years. Nw, scientists and startups wrldwide are turning t an unlikely slutin t this glbal crisis: fungi.
At the heart f this innvatin is mycelium (菌丝体), the rt-like structure f fungi. Made f tiny thread-like filaments, mycelium grws by feeding n rganic matter, binding int a strng, flexible, fully bidegradable material. T make fungal packaging, manufacturers use agricultural waste (wheat straw, rice husks, sawdust) as a grwth medium, mix it with mycelium spres, place it int mlds, and let it grw in a cntrlled envirnment fr 5-7 days. It is then heat-treated t stp grwth, frming a lightweight, durable packaging made withut harmful chemicals, high temperatures r massive energy input.
Unlike plastic that never fully breaks dwn, fungal packaging is 100% bidegradable. It decmpses in sil in 30 days, and mst imprtantly, fully breaks dwn in seawater within 3-6 mnths, leaving n micrplastics r txic residues. This makes it an ideal replacement fr plastic packaging used t transprt seafd, csmetics and electrnics, majr cntributrs t marine plastic pllutin.
Majr cmpanies wrldwide are adpting the technlgy. A Dutch startup FungiPack uses it fr seafd shipping, while Chinese firm MycGreen prduces it fr electrnics, reprting a 70% reductin in carbn emissins cmpared t plastic prductin. It still faces challenges: higher cst than mass-prduced plastic, and pr water resistance. But with nging ptimizatin, it will sn becme a viable alternative t mst cean-bund plastic.
“Plastic was a miracle inventin, but we frgt t design materials fr the end f their life,” says Dr. Jane Zha, a Tsinghua University materials scientist. “Mycelium wrks with nature, nt against it. That’s the future f sustainable packaging.”
32.What is the biggest advantage f fungal packaging ver traditinal plastic?
A.It is cheaper t mass-prduceB.It can be reused many times
C.It can fully degrade in seawaterD.It has a lnger service life in wet areas
33.What can we infer abut the prductin f fungal packaging?
A.It has a lwer carbn ftprint than plastic
      B.It depends n high-quality farmland
C.It requires a lt f fresh water and heat
D.It is mre cmplex than plastic prductin
34.What des the underlined wrd “viable” in paragraph 4 prbably mean?
      A.Rare and valuableB.Cheap and abundant
      C.Cmplex and advancedD.Practical and functinal
35.What is Dr. Zha’s attitude twards mycelium packaging technlgy?
      A.NeutralB.DubtfulC.CriticalD.Optimistic
