When we are healthy, breathing happens naturally and easily. Withut much effrt n ur part, the human respiratry (呼吸的) system wrks hard. Experts say we take abut 20, 000 breaths every day.
When yu breathe deeply, the air cming in thrugh yur nse fully fills yur lungs, and the lwer belly (腹部) rises. Deep breathing may slw the heartbeat, lwer bld pressure and lwer stress. Deep breaths help yur bdy fully exchange incming xygen with utging carbn dixide.
Hwever, many peple d the ppsite f deep breathing. They take shrt breaths and have shallw breathing. Experts call this “chest breathing”. Shallw breathing limits the expansin (扩张) f the diaphragm (隔膜) and its mvement. The lwest part f the lungs des nt get a full share f fresh air. This can make yu feel shrt f breath and wrried, r anxius.
Shallw breathing, ver time, leaves ld, unfresh air in the lungs. This leaves less rm fr the diaphragm t bring in fresh xygen. And that means lwer xygen levels and less xygen fr exercise and activity.
Several health websites explain an easy deep breathing exercise. Find a place t lie dwn. Place ne hand just belw yur ribs (肋骨). Take a slw, deep breath thrugh yur nse. Feel yur hand g up. Yur stmach shuld rise and expand. Nw breathe ut slwly thrugh yur muth. Make sure t breathe ut all the way. Feel yur hand and stmach g dwn.
If dne repeatedly, breathing exercises can help remve unfresh air frm the lungs. This will increase xygen levels and get the diaphragm t return t its jb f helping yu breathe. Deep breathing is a gd way t reduce stress and relax.
Shrtness f breath happens when yu are wrried, frightened, r are in pr physical shape. But it can als be a sign f health prblems.
      8. What is the harm f chest breathing?
      A. It makes the bdy take in mre xygen.
      B. It allws the diaphragm t mve freely.
      C. It speeds up the exchange f xygen and CO₂.
      D. It cuts dwn xygen supply and brings discmfrt.
      9. What is paragraph 5 mainly abut?
      A. Benefits f deep breathing.
      B. Prblems caused by shallw breathing.

Cntagius yawning (传染性哈欠) has lng been seen in warm-blded animals: besides us, they include chimps, lins and wlves. But Elisabetta Palagi, a scientist frm the University f Pisa, says it has been prven in a cld-blded species fr the first time.
Palagi and her team set ut t cnfirm if fish yawn and if it’s cntagius. They chse zebrafish, a cmmn freshwater fish, raised at hme, and bserved 18 zebrafish in the lab. The fish usually breathed by quickly pening and clsing their muth, but smetimes they pened their muth slwly. They als stretched (使变大) it wide and then clsed it suddenly. This seemed t mimic what scientists usually describe in ther animals as yawning.
The researchers nted many differences between a fish’s nrmal breathing and a yawn. Fr example, the fish pened their muth wider during a yawn than when simply breathing. And abut half the time, a yawning fish als stretched its bdy. This is “very interesting,” Palagi says, and smething “we did nt expect t find”.
The team trained an AI mdel t recgnize these yawning features. After feeding it vide screenshts (屏幕截图), the AI culd tell yawns frm nrmal breathing, just like the researchers. Next, they shwed zebrafish tw types f vides: ne f a yawning zebrafish and the ther f ne breathing nrmally.
Tested many times n many fish, the results shwed fish were mre than twice as likely t yawn when watching yawning vides — prving cntagius yawning. Als, lab fish that yawned in respnse ften changed swimming directin; since wild zebrafish swim in large grups, researchers think this helps them crdinate (协调) their mvements.
Nt everyne is buying it. Cait Newprt, a bilgist frm the University f Oxfrd, says that it’s still unclear why fish wuld yawn tgether. She ntes the directinal change desn’t prve that fish in the wild wuld use yawning t crdinate their mvements. Nam Miller, a psychlgist at Canada’s Wilfrid Laurier University, pints ut that we need t knw if fish yawn cntagiusly fr the same reasns as warm-blded animals.
Palagi says why animals yawn is still an pen questin, but zebrafish are perfect fr further study. “This study pens the fldgates fr many mre studies t cme.”
      12. What des the underlined wrd “mimic” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
      A. Hide.B. Speed.
      C. Pint ut.D. Lk like.
      13. What did the researchers need t d during the study?
      A. Tell zebrafish’s yawns frm their nrmal breathing.
      B. Cmpare hme-raised zebrafish t wild zebrafish.
      C. Let zebrafish see sme vides f human yawning.
      D. Use an AI mdel t cntrl vides f zebrafish.
      14. What did the researchers find?
      A. Wild zebrafish changed directin after yawning.
      B. Zebrafish yawned mre than warm-blded species.
      C. Zebrafish yawned when seeing ther fish yawn in vides.
      D. Cntagius yawning helped zebrafish find fd in grups.
      15. What is Cait Newprt’s attitude twards the research?
      A. Curius.B. Dubtful.
      C. Psitive.D. Unclear.
