第二部分 阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)In business, there’s a speed difference: It’s the difference between hw imprtant a firm’s leaders say speed is t their cmpetitive strategy and hw fast the cmpany actually mves. The difference is imprtant regardless f industry and cmpany size. Cmpanies fearful f lsing their cmpetitive advantage spend much time and mney lking fr ways t pick up the speed.
In ur study f 343 businesses, the cmpanies that chse t g, g, g t try t gain an edge ended up with lwer sales and perating incmes than thse that paused at key mments t make sure they were n the right track. What’s mre, the firms that “slwed dwn t speed up” imprved their tp and bttm lines, averaging 40% higher sales and 52% higher perating incmes ver a three-year perid.
Hw did they disbey the laws f business physics, taking mre time than cmpetitrs yet perfrming better? They thught differently abut what “slwer” and “faster” mean. Firms smetimes fail t understand the difference between peratinal speed (mving quickly) and strategic speed (reducing the time it takes t deliver value). Simply increasing the speed f prductin, fr example, may be ne way t try t reduce the speed difference. But that ften leads t reduced value ver time, in the frm f lwer-quality prducts and services.
In ur study, higher-cmpanies with strategic speed always made changes when necessary. They became mre pen t ideas and discussin. They encuraged new ways f thinking. And they allwed time t lk back and learn. By cntrast, perfrmance suffered at firms that mved fast all the time, paid t much attentin t imprving efficiency, stuck t tested methds, didn’t develp team spirit amng their emplyees, and had little time thinking abut changes.
Strategic speed serves as a kind f leadership. Teams that regularly take time t get things right, rather than plugh ahead full bre, are mre successful in meeting their business gals. That kind f strategy must cme frm the tp.

C.Firms guided by strategic speed take time t make necessary changes.
D.Firms guided by peratinal speed take time t develp necessary team spirit.
4、Accrding t the authr, what is the key t deciding strategic speed?

25.(10分) The hemlck(铁杉) trees alng the Wappinger Creek, New Yrk, lk healthy. Hwever, scientist Gary Lvett says the white balls which prvide prtectin fr the bugs are created by a tiny insect. It’s hard t believe the tiny bug culd kill a tree. Hwever, trees can end up with millins and millins f the pests. When there are that many, it ends up killing the tree.
The bug frm East Asia is slwly killing trees acrss the USA.The truble-making bug is just ne f many invasive(入侵的) pests that have slipped int the United States. They can hurt ther living things in their new hme.
Many invasive pests arrive n wden pallets piled inside shipping cntainers. They supprt and separate gds, and keep them frm sliding arund. Invasive pests ften tunnel int the pallets. Hw can we stp pests frm riding n pallets? Lvett says new rules are needed. The cmpanies that make pallets dn’t want mre rules. Cngress has added an amendment(修正案) in the 2018 Farm Bill t try and prevent this prblem. Hwever, Lvett is nt hpeful it will make much f a difference. Pallets are checked by inspectrs. Still, each year 13 millin cntainers are shipped t the U.S. Each is full f wden pallets. Lvett says: “Inspectrs can’t pssibly check everything. All it takes are a few bad pallets; we shuld get rid f wden pallets.” He believes pallets shuld be made f plastic r ec-cmpsite wd. Ec-cmpsite wd is a mix f wd fiber and plastic. Insects cannt hide int it. One prblem is that these chices cst mre. They may be wrth the extra mney, thugh. Invasive pests cst the U.S. $5 billin a year. Trees dn’t just die in frests. 29、Dear Sam,
In reply t yur last letter, I’m writing t give yu a general accunt f my trip t the Dngbai Muntain with my friends last weekend.
It was a perfect day fr hiking, with the sun shining mildly and cluds flating leisurely in the blue sky. As we went up alng the trail sheltered by trees n either side, we can hear birds singing and leaves flapping gently in the breeze. It was n easy wrk climbing such a high muntain, but the breath-taking view n the tp made it all wrthwhile-we seemed t be able t see fr miles!
Finally, I’ve learned that nly with determinatin and perseverance can we cnquer difficulties.
Yurs,
Li Hua
